MONDAY NIGHT,, November 21
12-1:30 Danny Sheehan “1st AMENDMENT - FREE SPEECH”. (4-30-15)
This lecture focused on the concept of Free Speech, how it was intended in the Constitution, and how it has been interpreted since then.
The Federalists passed the Alien Sedition Acts in 1798 with the intention of restricting free speech by making it illegal to speak out against the government. This is the first major challenge to the First Amendment right of freedom of speech.
Many worldviews interpret the concept of freedom of speech differently. The second paradigm reactionary worldview would like to restrict freedom of speech while the sixth paradigm progressive worldview would place no restrictions on speech. Thus, the moderate or utilitarian fourth paradigm worldview is tasked with crafting intellectual devices to balance the sixth the second paradigm worldviews, often leading to overly broad or vague legislation.
Some ways in which absolute freedom of speech has been restricted are:Speech that induces unlawful conduct on the part of others can be prohibited.
Freedom of speech can be restricted when it interferes with a court decision.
If there is expression that provokes hostile action on the part of audience, it is prohibited.

2:30-3:30 Vijay Prashad, ‘’History Lessons Part 1’’
Program #PRAV006. Recorded in Santiago, Chile on November 3, 2022.
Is history just a bunch of innocuous cold facts and dates? Or is it something more? What can we learn from the past? History is not neutral. It’s an ideological battleground. Witness the vitriolic attacks by establishment figures on those who want a reckoning of African American slavery. They want to obfuscate that sordid history. Or take the U.S. invasion of Grenada in 1983. What was that about? Or the CIA coup in Chile? Gee, I never read about that in school. Elites can lie outright about history. Or they can omit facts that might lead to inconvenient conclusions. The rulers want to keep to their sanitized version of the past and maintain myths about enlightened leaders Sure, here and there a few bad apples made mistakes but they were the exception not the rule. Were they? Interviewed by David Barsamian
Vijay Prashad is an internationally renowned historian and journalist. He is the director of Tricontinental: Institute for Social Research and chief correspondent for Globetrotter. WEDNESDAY NIGHT, NOVEMBER 23
12-1 Dave Emory, ''For the Record 1264 — Interview #3 with Jim DiEugenio about “JFK Revisited”.
Continuing our discussion with Jim DiEugenio about JFK Revisited, we begin with analysis of comparison between the “stab in the back” hypothesis floated by reactionaries in Weimar Germany, denying that they lost World War I, with similar revisionism floated by the right wing concerning America’s defeat in Vietnam.
Bridging discussion that will be continued in our previous program, we note a key quote from the book and documentary by Lisa Pease, noting that JFK stood apart from the Eisenhower/Dulles view that non-alignment among the former colonial territories that achieved independence was the equivalent of pro-Communist orientation.
JFK Revisited: Through the Looking Glass by Jim DiEugenio; Skyhorse Publishing [HC]; Copyright 2022 by Jim DiEugenio; ISBN 978–1‑5107–7287‑8; p. 352.
. . . . Lisa Pease: His [JFK’s] approach was a radical break from his predecessor. In an oral history interview that Sukarno gave after John Kennedy’s death, he said words to the effect that what made Kennedy special is that he believed non-alignment was not amoral as it had been under John Foster Dulles. I thought that was an interesting way of putting it. . . .
Exemplifying Kennedy’s understanding of how nationalist aspirations were at the forefront of struggles for national independence that were cast into the annihilating Cold War meatgrinder, we detail his trip to Indochina, where he networked with French generals, who told him that France was winning its struggle against the Viet Minh, and then with State Department professional Edmund Gullion, who opined that France was losing the war and would, in the end, lose.
Gullion also told Kennedy that, if the U.S. got involved, it would lose as well. It was Gullion’s conviction that the Vietnamese peoples’ desire for independence trumped anything the West could do.
We note that roughly 80% of the budget of the French war effort was bankrolled by the U.S. We also note that there was a contingency plan developed for a massive U.S. air support operation on behalf of the French called “Operation Vulture.” Part of that plan was the deployment of three atomic bombs for use against the Vietnamese.

1-2 “Insights at the Edge: Jules Blaine Davis: Meet the Kitchen Healer” (11/17)
For eons, women have gathered around the place of cooking—the fire, the hearth, the kitchen—to share wisdom and nourish each other through love and compassion and yes, food. In her new book, The Kitchen Healer: The Journey to Becoming You, Jules Blaine Davis celebrates the ways we nourish our bodies, hearts, and spirits in this cherished place. In our podcast, Tami Simon and Jules discuss how the kitchen gives us the opportunity to pause, grieve, and replenish—and to rewrite our stories over and over again. In true loving-healer fashion, Jules talks about our deep hunger to connect with each other in what has become “a cultureless culture,” and how the kitchen provides that essential space for reuniting with our longing, our joy, and each other.
She shares her thoughts on the practice of simply being with our problems instead of fixing them, and how powerful it is to just give yourself an abundance of permission. Her joy and compassion radiate throughout this conversation, as does the promise of discovery through healing. Says Jules, “When we’re in the practice of healing, there’s no graduating from healing. We’re just unfolding. We’re unraveling. We’re becoming who we are over and over again in all the different beautiful places in our lives.” Audio and Text: https://www.resources.soundstrue.com/podcast/jules-blaine-davis/
