This month, Danny presents an update on the (still happening) Dakota Access Pipeline cases and answers questions from the listeners, principally regarding what might/could happen in Washington politics and the possibilities and direction of impeachment of Trump and Pence and the upcoming battle for control of Congress in November between and within the major parties.
Since 2006, Daniel Sheehan has served as the lead attorney and general counsel for the Lakota People’s Law Project (LPLP). Much of LPLP's work has been in South Dakota to stop violations of the Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA) and rescue Lakota children from an abusive state care system. www.dansheehan.com
In 2016, LPLP began organizing around the Dakota Access Pipeline. Our Lakota staff were on the ground at Oceti Sakowin camp from its inception in April 2016 to the final days in February, 2017. Daniel is now heading a legal team representing Chase Iron Eyes and others facing felony charges related to the #NoDAPL movement. 'The Peoples Advocate,' the autobiography of American Constitutional Trial Attorney Daniel Sheehan, is now available through our online store! Sheehan traces his personal journey from his working-class roots through Harvard Law School and his initial career in private practice. His early disenchantment led to his return for further study at Harvard Divinity School, and rethinking the nature of his career. Eventually his role as President and Chief Trial Counselor for the famous Washington, DC-based Christic Institute would help define his role as America's preeminent cause lawyer.
In The Peoples Advocate, Sheehan details “the inside story” of over a dozen historically significant American legal cases of the 20th Century, all of which he litigated. The remarkable cases covered in the book include both The Pentagon Papers Case in 1971 and The Watergate Burglary Case in 1973. In addition, Sheehan served as the Chief Attorney on The Karen Silkwood Case in 1976, which revealed the CIA's Israeli Desk had been smuggling 98% bomb-grade plutonium to the State of Israel and to Iran. In 1984, he was the Chief Trial Counsel on The American Sanctuary Movement Case, establishing the right of American church workers to provide assistance to Central American political refugees fleeing Guatemalan and Salvadorian “death squads.” His involvement with the sanctuary movement ultimately led to Sheehan's famous Iran/Contra Federal Civil Racketeering Case against the Reagan/Bush Administration, which he investigated, initiated, filed, and then litigated. The resulting “Iran/Contra Scandal” nearly brought down that Administration, leading Congress to consider the impeachment of over a dozen of the top-ranking officials of the Reagan/Bush Administration.

Throughout history, women have suffered many injustices in the workplace including unequal wages, unsafe work conditions and predatory sexual harassment from male administrators.
By early 2018, there have been some encouraging steps taken to change this, most notably in Hollywood and politics where courageous women standing up resulted in the exposure to this institutional crisis in workplace safety for women.
On this weeks From The Vault we showcase some of the Feminist efforts throughout history that helped shape the efforts we are seeing today.
First we will play a program from 1982 called Feminism in the 1800s produced in 1982 and featuring author Ellen DuBois who writes about Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Susan B. Anthony, Mary Wollstonecraft, Frances Wright and others.
Then we will play the 1998 talk by Angela Davis called Blues Legacies and Black Feminism. Angela Davis traces early blues artists including Gertrude "Ma" Rainy, Bessie Smith and Billie Holiday to illustrate how black women helped shape feminist historical traditions through their music.

Updating our ongoing analysis of what Mr. Emory calls “technocratic fascism,” we examine how existing technologies are neutralizing and/or rendering obsolete foundational elements of our civilization and democratic governmental systems.
We begin our description by referencing a vitally important article by David Golumbia. ” . . . . Such tech no cratic beliefs are wide spread in our world today, espe cially in the enclaves of dig i tal enthu si asts, whether or not they are part of the giant corporate-digital leviathan. Hack ers (‘civic,’ ‘eth i cal,’ ‘white’ and ‘black’ hat alike), hack tivists, Wik iLeaks fans [and Julian Assange et al–D. E.], Anony mous ‘mem bers,’ even Edward Snow den him self walk hand-in-hand with Face book and Google in telling us that coders don’t just have good things to con tribute to the polit i cal world, but that the polit i cal world is theirs to do with what they want, and the rest of us should stay out of it: the polit i cal world is bro ken, they appear to think (rightly, at least in part), and the solu tion to that, they think (wrongly, at least for the most part), is for pro gram mers to take polit i cal mat ters into their own hands. . . . [Tor co-creator] Din gle dine asserts that a small group of soft ware devel op ers can assign to them selves that role, and that mem bers of demo c ra tic poli ties have no choice but to accept them hav ing that role. . . .”
Beginning with a chilling opinion piece in “The New York Times,” we note that technological development threatens to super-charge the Big Lies that drive our world. As anyone who saw the file Star Wars film “Rogue One” knows, the technology required to create a nearly life-like computer-generated videos of a real person is already a reality. Once the province of movie studios and other firms with millions to spend, the technology is now available for download for free.
” . . . . In 2016 Gareth Edwards, the director of the Star Wars film ‘Rogue One,’ was able to create a scene featuring a young Princess Leia by manipulating images of Carrie Fisher as she looked in 1977. Mr. Edwards had the best hardware and software a $200 million Hollywood budget could buy. Less than two years later, images of similar quality can be created with software available for free download on Reddit. That was how a faked video supposedly of the actress Emma Watson in a shower with another woman ended up on the website Celeb Jihad. . . .”
The technology has already rendered obsolete selective editing such as that performed by James O’Keefe: ” . . . . as the novelist William Gibson once said, ‘The street finds its own uses for things.’ So do rogue political actors. The implications for democracy are eye-opening. The conservative political activist James O’Keefe has created a cottage industry manipulating political perceptions by editing footage in misleading ways. In 2018, low-tech editing like Mr. O’Keefe’s is already an anachronism: Imagine what even less scrupulous activists could do with the power to create ‘video’ framing real people for things they’ve never actually done. One harrowing potential eventuality: Fake video and audio may become so convincing that it can’t be distinguished from real recordings, rendering audio and video evidence inadmissible in court. . . .”
After highlighting a story about AI-generated “deepfake” pornography with people’s faces superimposed on others’ bodies in pornographic layouts, we note how robots have altered our political and commercial landscapes, through cyber technology: ” . . . . Robots are getting better, every day, at impersonating humans. When directed by opportunists, malefactors and sometimes even nation-states, they pose a particular threat to democratic societies, which are premised on being open to the people. Robots posing as people have become a menace. . . . In coming years, campaign finance limits will be (and maybe already are) evaded by robot armies posing as ‘small’ donors. And actual voting is another obvious target — perhaps the ultimate target. . . .”
Before the actual replacement of manual labor by robots, devices to technocratically “improve”–read “coercively engineer” workers are patented by Amazon and have been used on workers in some of their facilities. ” . . . . What if your employer made you wear a wristband that tracked your every move, and that even nudged you via vibrations when it judged that you were doing something wrong? What if your supervisor could identify every time you paused to scratch or fidget, and for how long you took a bathroom break? What may sound like dystopian fiction could become a reality for Amazon warehouse workers around the world. The company has won two patents for such a wristband. . . .”
For some U.K Amazon warehouse workers, the future is now: ” . . . . Max Crawford, a former Amazon warehouse worker in Britain, said in a phone interview, ‘After a year working on the floor, I felt like I had become a version of the robots I was working with.’ He described having to process hundreds of items in an hour — a pace so extreme that one day, he said, he fell over from dizziness. ‘There was no time to go to the loo,’ he said, using the British slang for toilet. ‘You had to process the items in seconds and then move on. If you didn’t meet targets, you were fired.’
“He worked back and forth at two Amazon warehouses for more than two years and then quit in 2015 because of health concerns, he said: ‘I got burned out.’ Mr. Crawford agreed that the wristbands might save some time and labor, but he said the tracking was ‘stalkerish’ and feared that workers might be unfairly scrutinized if their hands were found to be ‘in the wrong place at the wrong time.’ ‘They want to turn people into machines,’ he said. ‘The robotic technology isn’t up to scratch yet, so until it is, they will use human robots.’ . . . .”
Some tech workers, well placed at R & D pacesetters and giants such as Facebook and Google have done an about-face on the impact of their earlier efforts and are now struggling against the misuse of the technologies they helped to launch:
” . . . . A group of Silicon Valley technologists who were early employees at Facebook and Google, alarmed over the ill effects of social networks and smartphones, are banding together to challenge the companies they helped build. . . . ‘The largest supercomputers in the world are inside of two companies — Google and Facebook — and where are we pointing them?’ Mr. [Tristan] Harris said. ‘We’re pointing them at people’s brains, at children.’ . . . . Mr. [RogerMcNamee] said he had joined the Center for Humane Technology because he was horrified by what he had helped enable as an early Facebook investor. ‘Facebook appeals to your lizard brain — primarily fear and anger,’ he said. ‘And with smartphones, they’ve got you for every waking moment.’ . . . .”
Transitioning to our next program–updating AI (artificial intelligence) technology as it applies to technocratic fascism–we note that AI machines are being designed to develop other AI’s–“The Rise of the Machine.” ” . . . . Jeff Dean, one of Google’s leading engineers, spotlighted a Google project called AutoML. ML is short for machine learning, referring to computer algorithms that can learn to perform particular tasks on their own by analyzing data. AutoML, in turn, is a machine learning algorithm that learns to build other machine-learning algorithms. With it, Google may soon find a way to create A.I. technology that can partly take the humans out of building the A.I. systems that many believe are the future of the technology industry. . .

We hear a lot about bulls and bears and the magic of the stock market. The magic is shared by a few. The richest 10 percent own 84 percent of all shares of stock. Remember the days when Republicans prided themselves on being fiscally responsible? Well, they’re long gone. The deficit and the debt are astronomical. The 2008 crash ushered in the deepest recession since the Great Depression. Can it happen again? You bet. Just read the tea leaves. The tax cut just blew a gigantic hole in the budget. The big banks are now sitting on record profits. CEOs are giving themselves huge bonuses. “Draining the swamp?” The economy is led by ex-bankers and Goldman Sachs alumni with the same mentality that led to the previous crash. And there are few checks and balances as deregulators rule government agencies.

Kate Millett was born in Minnesota where she received her undergraduate degree, and then mostly made New York her home. Her body of work in art, literature and activism has been instrumental in shaping the 2nd Wave of Feminism. Millet is probably best known for her doctoral thesis turned best-selling book Sexual Politics in 1970.
Millett has written many influential books including 'The Prostitution Papers,' 'Flying,' 'Mother Millet' about her relationship with her Mother and 'The Loony-Bin Trip' about her involuntary Psychiatric care and institutionalization.
Between 2011 and 2013 she has won the Lambda Pioneer Award for Literature , Yoko Ono s Courage Award for the Arts and was inducted into the National Women s Hall of Fame.
Pacifica Radio has been present over the years to capture several important recordings of Kate Millett. In this program we present significant selections from two of these programs.

New articles on the group disclose that they have been responsible for a number of recent murders around the country. More murders should be expected because Atomwaffen produces ISIS-style videos promoting mass neo-Nazi violence designed to sabotage and implode society.

All imperial systems attempt to reinvent the past, engineer history to suit their needs. The United States is no different. Vietnam is a perfect example. A war of aggression was transformed into a "conflict." It was "tragic" and a "mistake." At the other end of the spectrum, the so-called liberal Washington Post called the war a "just cause." That's the range of opinion in describing one of the major atrocities of the 20th century. The sheer savagery of the U.S. attack is forgotten. The war on Vietnam, later extended to Laos and Cambodia, included mass murder from the air and ferocious assaults on the ground. Millions were killed. About the agony and suffering of the victims? Virtually nothing. Reparations? Apologies? No way. And the architects of destruction, the war criminals? Held accountable? Trials? Jail time? Then as now, nothing. This classic from the AR archives marks the 50th anniversary of the My Lai massacre. Historian Jonathan Schell wrote that My Lai, “had come to be the rule, and not the exception, in our conduct of the war.”

This broadcast recaps material from previous programs, underscoring key points of information from current developments.
Last week, we opened our program with an article from Consortium News about some alarming developments in Ukraine-a piece of legislation approved by the Rada (the Ukrainian parliament) that might augur World War III.
One of the few media outlets that has covered the return to power of the OUN/B's successor fascist organizations in Ukraine, Consortium News was founded and headed by Robert Parry.
Parry passed away last weekend.
Mr. Emory posted the following comment on the Consortium News article about Robert's passing:
A very, very sad occasion. It was my privilege to have interviewed Robert a number of times over the years, including an interview-scheduled days before-that took place on the day he learned of Gary Webb's death.
It was also my privilege to have used many articles from Consortium News in my weekly broadcasts, including, and especially, his reportage about the return to power of the OUN/B successor organizations in Ukraine.
Very few have manifested the courage and integrity to report honestly on those events.
Now, there will be fewer.
Rest in peace, Robert.
Next, we return to the subject of Peter Thiel, of "Team Trump," Facebook and Palantir.
We have covered Peter Thiel in numerous programs, beginning with our warning about him in FTR #718.
Some of the points we have made about him include:
1.-His family background in the Frankfurt (Germany) chemical business. Probably I.G. Farben/Bormann, in that context.
2.-His primary role in Palantir, apparently the maker of the PRISM software at the epicenter of L'Affaire Snowden.
3.-His role as the primary financier of Ron Paul's super PAC. (Paul is an unabashed white supremacist, joined at the hip with David Duke and the neo-4.-Confederate movement. He was the Presidential candidate of choice for Eddie "The Friendly Spook" Snowden and Julian Assange.)
4.-Thiel's networking with movers and shakers from In-Q-Tel, the CIA's high-tech venture capital firm.
5.-Thiel's active anti-immigrant stance.
6.-Thiel's seminal networking with other tech titans and venture capital firms, including some with political and historical tributaries leading back to the apartheid regime in South Africa.
With Thiel among the candidates to head Trump's President's Intelligence Advisory Board, we note that his apocalyptic, anti-Enlightenment ideology draws on, among other influences, Carl Schmitt. Arguably the prime mover behind the German Conservative Revolution, Schmitt was also: ". . . . a Nazi and the Third Reich's preeminent legal theorist. For Thiel, Schmitt is an inspiring throwback to a pre-Enlightenment age, who exalts struggle and insists that the discovery of enemies is the foundation of politics. . ."
There has been a fair amount of buzz about the release of additional, previously classified, documents about the assassination of President Kennedy.
An interesting document came to light in the recent release of files relating to the assassination of JFK. Jack Ruby told an FBI informant to "watch the fireworks" in Dealey Plaza that day.
"Jack Ruby, the man who eventually shot Lee Harvey Oswald, told an FBI informant to 'watch the fireworks' on the day President John F. Kennedy was killed, according to new records the National Archives released Friday. . . . 'The informant stated that on the morning of the assassination, Ruby contacted him and asked if he would 'like to watch the fireworks," an FBI record dated April 6, 1977, says. 'He was with Jack Ruby and standing at the corner of the Postal Annex Building facing the Texas School Book Depository Building at the time of the shooting. . . ."
This might be evaluated against the background of FTR #963, relating-among other things-a reading of Jack Ruby's Warren Commission testimony. (A reading of Ruby's testimony is re-broadcast in this program.)
When interviewed by the Warren Commission, Jack Ruby indicated that he had been part of a conspiracy to kill Kennedy and that he feared for his life. The Warren Commission turned a deaf ear to his desire to go to Washington and "spill the beans."
Gerald Ford (who succeeded Nixon as President and pardoned him of all crimes committed), Leon Jaworski (a Warren Commission counsel who was a director of a CIA domestic funding conduit and who was selected by Nixon to be Watergate Special Prosecutor) and Arlen Specter (another Warren Commission counsel who was Nixon's first choice as his personal defense attorney in the Watergate affair) were present at Ruby's de facto confession.
Warren Commission Counsel J. Lee Rankin is also present at this interview. Nixon first selected J. Lee Rankin to serve as Watergate Special Prosecutor. Rankin was subsequently tabbed to review the Watergate tapes and determine which would be released. Rankin was the Warren Commission's liaison between the commission and both the CIA and the FBI. Rankin was a key proponent of the so-called "Magic Bullet Theory."
We conclude with discussion of another aspect of the JFK assassination.
Jane Mayer's Dark Money has received considerable discussion and media play over the last couple of years. In past discussion of the Koch family, we noted that patriarch Fred Koch worked with Hitler building one of Nazi Germany's most important refineries-one capable of refining the high-octane fuel needed by fighter planes.
In addition, we noted that Fred Koch was one of the first members of the John Birch Society.
Mayer notes that Fred Koch helped finance ads in the wake of the JFK assassination that pinned responsibility for the crime on the Soviet Union-one of the primary levels of disinformation.
" . . . . In a hasty turnabout, soon after the assassination, Fred Koch took out full-page ads in The New York Times and The Washington Post, mourning JFK. The ads advanced the conspiracy theory that JFK's assassin, Lee Harvey Oswald, had acted as part of a Communist plot. The Communists wouldn't "rest on this success," the ads warned. In the corner was a tear-out order form, directing the public to sign up for John Birch Society mailings. . . ."

Highlighting recent, alarming aspects of the Ukraine crisis, the broadcast underscores how past and present may signal the beginning of World War III in a manner not unlike how fractious events in the Balkans triggered the First World War.
With Ukraine now receiving U.S. arms, including modified stinger anti-aircraft missiles, the Nazi “punisher” battalions in that country’s East may be in a position to trigger one or more provocations that could lead to conflict between nuclear-armed Russia, NATO and the U.S.
Since the Donbass militias have no air force, the stingers would appear to be deployed in the event of a wider, Ukraine/Russia war.
Nazi elements active in the Maidan coup spawned the Azov and other “punisher” units. With more information surfacing that indicates that the Maidan sniper shootings were a provocation-derived event, the possibility that Svoboda and Pravy Sektor-linked elements could drive developments in the Donbass toward World War III is one that deserves more attention than it will receive.
A frightening development, virtually unreported in the U.S., concerns unilateral moves by the Poroshenko government to move away from the Minsk peace plan and to rebrand the conflict in Eastern Ukraine as “occupation” by an “aggressor” Russia.
This appears to pave the way for a wider, deeper conflict which could, ultimately, draw in the U.S. and NATO: ” . . . . According to [Dmitri] Kiselyov, the new law, which awaits Poroshenko’s signature, makes preparations for war and includes language indicating a bellicose new approach to the conflict. The mission in Donbass is no longer described as an ‘anti-terrorist operation.’ Rather, the mission now is to send armed forces against ‘military formations of the Russian Federation’ in Donbass.
Military headquarters are established to coordinate the operation to be waged in Donbass. While up until now the self-declared republics of Donetsk and Lugansk were considered under the Minsk Accords as negotiating parties, now there are only ‘occupation administrations’ of the Russian Federation on these territories, with Russia identified as an ‘aggressor.’ . . . .”
The danger of Poroshenko seeking to play the “war card” to distract from Urkaine’s dire economic circumstances and his own failed government are real. Conflict with Russia could also deflect from Trump’s and the GOP’s failures at home: ” . . . . On the economic front, the European Union has refused to extend 600 million euros of credit to Ukraine due to corruption. The International Monetary Fund recently refused a tranche of $800 million over failure to introduce reforms. Meanwhile, in 2019 Ukraine is due to start repaying earlier loans. This will come to $14 billion a year, which amounts to half the state budget of Ukraine.
Due to dire economic conditions, Poroshenko and other government officials in Kiev have become deeply unpopular, and with diminished chances for electoral success may see war as politically advantageous. . . .”
The Trump administration just approved the sale of sniper rifles and, more significantly, anti-tank Javelin missiles to Ukraine. This should be evaluated against the background of the recent moves by Kiev (increasing the danger for an escalated conflict) as well as the activities of Kurt Volker, the “ex”-CIA officer, NATO functionary, George W. Bush State Department official and Atlantic Councicl Senior advisor serving as the Trump administration’s point-man in Ukraine.
Might anti-aircraft missiles be next? As the article below notes, the Donbass separatists don’t actually have an air force, so it would be a curious decision to start sending them anti-aircraft weapons. ” . . . . The proposed transfer — which also would include antiaircraft arms that would be defined as defensive weaponry — comes as fighting between Ukrainian troops and Russian-backed separatists. . . . The utility of antiaircraft weaponry, for example, is unclear, as the Russian-backed rebel army has no air force. The war is fought along a line of trenches that has not moved much since February 2015. . . .”
According to a report back in June, the Pentagon recently modified shoulder-fired stinger missiles to shoot small down drones that are difficult for regular Stinger missiles to hit. It’s not at all inconceivable that the anti-aircraft weapons the Pentagon and State Department have in mind are those Stinger missiles, modified for the purpose of shooting down separatist drones.
Also keep in mind that the shoulder-launched stringer missiles are among the weapons that terrorists would love to obtain and the Ukrainian troops getting trained on these systems may include the neo-Nazis fighting in Ukraine’s army getting trained by US military advisors like the Azov batallion. ” . . . . The American training at the Yavoriv base in western Ukraine is focused on forging a disciplined, professional military from the mix of volunteer groups that first fought the Russian incursion, rather than placing bets on any high-tech weapons systems. . . .”
When you read that, remember that the “mix of volunteers groups” includes neo-Nazis, including the Azov Battalion.
In other words, if Stinger missiles really are part of the military package, and just not yet announced, those little nightmares could easily end up in neo-Nazi hands and the US military could even be the ones training them on how to use them. We’ll see if that’s how it plays out, but we can’t rule it out...

The juvenile justice system is off the rails. It is in urgent need of reform. The U.S. incarcerates roughly 2 million children every year, even though 95 percent of them have not been convicted of a violent crime. Too many of them are held in adult facilities. The systemic problems range from racism to brutality and extreme sentencing. Thousands of kids, many of them suffering from trauma come of age behind bars. Two-thirds of them have mental health issues. They are subject to physical and sexual assault. Children are up to 36 times more likely to commit suicide after being housed in an adult jail or prison than children incarcerated in juvenile facilities. The Equal Justice Initiative says confinement of children in adult facilities is indefensible, cruel and unusual punishment and should be banned.
