2-2:30 The Bioneers: Revolution from the Heart of Nature
"Shamans and Scientists"
As we hurtle into the Sixth Age of Extinctions, we face the cataclysmic loss of half the world's biological diversity. 80% of the remaining biodiversity is on Indigenous lands. Ethnobotanist and Indigenous rights advocate Mark Plotkin of the Amazon Conservation Team tells us how scientists are helping protect the people who will protect the land, and the age-old wisdom that's imperative for our future. 2:30-3:30 "From the Vault,"
Stan Freberg is a comedic legend His influence can be seen from Monty Python to South Park to Current television hit series Mad Men to the Late Night Comedy host lineup. Today on From The Vault, we memorialize this legend who passed away on Tuesday April 7th, 2015.

It all started in the most humble fashion. Born on August 7, 1926 in Pasadena California. The story goes that in 1944 at the age of 18 he jumped on a bus to "Hollywood" and landed on the doorstep of Warner Brother's Studio. He was hired immediately to begin voicing cartoon characters

In 1951 he began releasing Comedy albums with Capitol Records. He honed his craft at satire and parody from the beginning, taking on topics like McCarthyism, Politics, political correctness before that was even a term, pop culture including a stab at Elvis Presley's first hit record Heartbreak Hotel.

By 1957 he took over for radio legend Jack Benny on CBS hit comedy radio hour. He took a principled stand against allowing Jack Benny's Tobacco companies to advertise on his show which severely hampered it's success.
This only gave him fuel to turn up the satire volume in his work including... you guessed it.... commercials.

Let's hear a little from his CBS radio Program The Stan Freberg Show from August 11, 1957. This program was broadcast on Pacifica Station KPFK in Los Angeles thanks to overnight legend Roy Tuckman and fellow old time radio fan Bobb Lynes.

In 1961, Stan Freberg recorded arguably his greatest comedy album Stan Freberg Presents The United States of America: The Early years. Pacifica Station KPFA thought so too, and on the Fourth of July 1964 played the entire album to celebrate America's birthday. We play side 1 of this recording from 1961.

And now we present KPFK host John Schneider's 1999 interview with Stan Freberg that allows us a fly-on-the-wall peek inside Freberg's view of the world AND presents some of Stan's best routines.

12-1 Vaccine Update: 'Cammy Beton MD, CDC Admits There is No Science Behind the Annual Flu Vaccine

The Vaxxed Team recently interviewed Dr. Cammy Benton from North Carolina who is board certified in both Family Medicine and Functional Medicine.
Dr. Benton related that through all of her years of medical training, including 4 years in residency, that the only thing she was taught in regards to vaccines was that they were "safe and effective." She stated that they were told to discard the vaccine inserts, as they were all "lawyer jargon..."
She became obsessed with the topic, since it had already destroyed the health of her three children. She wanted to learn which vaccines were useful and which ones were not.
Dr. Benton finally came to the conclusion that the risks associated with the diseases that were being vaccinated against was not serious enough to risk the side effects of the vaccines.

1-2:30 Jeff Foster: The Way of Rest
Jeff Foster is a spiritual teacher whose methods do not belong to any one lineage or style. He teaches a form of total acceptance-a dismantling of the armor of the heart so that we can live vibrantly in the here and now. With Sounds True, Jeff has published several books and audio programs, including 'The Way of Rest: Finding The Courage to Hold Everything in Love.' In this episode of Insights at the Edge, Jeff and Tami Simon speak on the obstacles that stand between us and rest, and how learning to abide in discomfort is a difficult but necessary step to achieving true rest. Reading an excerpt from his newest book, Jeff explains why it's actually a daring act to choose to rest. Finally, Jeff and Tami talk about depression and the desire to die, and why that desire can be a gateway to a deeper, richer understanding of the self. From Sounds True Insights at the Edge. 2:30-3:30 Karen Brody: "Daring to Rest"
Karen Brody is the founder of the Daring to Rest™ Program for Women, which promotes women's empowerment and increased health through yoga nidra meditation. With Sounds True, Karen has published 'Daring to Rest: Reclaim Your Power' with Yoga Nidra Rest Meditation. In this episode of Insights at the Edge, Karen and Tami Simon have a serious discussion about the epidemic of burnout and exhaustion in modern culture. This is especially true for women, who are often held to the societal expectation that they serve the needs of those around them before they ever consider taking even the most necessary rest. Karen offers yoga nidra as a one part of the solution to this wave of fatigue, describing how her own practice and the cultivation of turiya-"the sleep of the yogis"-helped her move past a period of intense, chronic sleeplessness. Finally, Karen and Tami speak on the liberation in abandoning perfectionism and how yoga nidra can be folded into the course of our daily lives. WEDNESDAY NIGHT, NOVEMBER 29

12-1 Dave Emory, "For the Record #979 - Nazism, Anti-Gay and Anti-Feminist Propaganda and the Fritz Haarmann Incident"

With the Trump administration moving against gay rights and reproductive rights, and with the public attention largely focused on yet another mass murder in Las Vegas, we delve back into the archives for the benefit of newer and younger listeners.

On 2/28/1988, we recorded Miscellaneous Archive Show M13: Gay Rights, Reproductive Rights and the Third Reich, highlighting how the nascent, vigorous gay rights movement in Weimar Germany was a focal point for Nazi propaganda and political action. Furthermore, a mass killing by homosexual Fritz Haarmann terrorized Weimar Germany, fueled Nazi anti-gay propaganda and reinforced the public perception in the German populace that the situation was "out of control."

Dr. Magnus Hirschfeld was the lynchpin of the strong gay liberation movement in Weimar Germany and, as a result, was a focal point of Nazi Party propaganda, fueled with the additional fodder of the fact that Hirschfeld was Jewish.

(We note, in passing, that the gay rights movement in Weimar Germany received considerable support from a segment of the country's feminist community grouped around Dr. Helena Stoecker.)

Historically, German attitudes toward homosexuality were mixed, with some regions manifesting a relatively liberal attitude and enforcement posture and others, an extremely reactionary position in both respects. Paragraph 175 was the official German statute making sex between adults of the same gender illegal. Again, the enforcement of Paragraph 175 was highly selective from a regional standpoint.)

In a manner directly foreshadowing U.S. right-wing propaganda in recent decades, the Nazi Party denounced Hirschfeld and homophile sexual activity as a product of, and a contributor to, the moral decay of the Weimar Republic and democracy in general.

A major contributing factor to the impact of this Nazi propaganda was the Fritz Haarman incident...

1-2 The Ralph Nader Radio Hour
Ralph spends the hour with fraud expert, Frank Abagnale, inspiration for the Spielberg film, "Catch Me If You Can." They talk about how to protect yourself from identity theft and other scams in our high tech, digital economy. Plus listener questions!

One pilot, stockbroker, and of the most daring con men, forgers, imposters, and escape artists in history, Frank Abagnale enjoyed a brief but notorious criminal career during which he assumed various identities - including those of airline doctor - in order to pass off approximately $2.5 million in phony checks before he reached the age of twenty-one. His criminal adventures inspired Steven Spielberg's film, Catch Me If You Can and the Tony-Award winning musical of the same name. Now, Mr. Abagnale is one of the world's most respected authorities on forgery, embezzlement, and secure documents. For over forty years he has worked with, advised, and consulted with hundreds of financial institutions, corporations and government agencies around the world. In addition to "Catch Me If You Can," his books include "The Art of the Steal," "The Real U Guide to Identity Theft"and "Stealing Your Life."
"Obviously technology breeds crime. It always has, and it always will. And there always be people using technology in a negative, self-serving way. So, it's a lot easier today to do some of the things that I did before." - Frank Abagnale

2-3 Eric Sirotkin, "War or Peace in Korea"
Recorded in Boulder, CO on October 21, 2017.

Donald Trump and Kim Jong-un. What can you say? They are lightweights fighting in the heavyweight division while the fate of possibly millions are at risk. Two heads of state trading taunts and insults back and forth like kids in a schoolyard. Trump declared that talking with North Korea is a "waste of time" and threatened to "totally destroy" that country by unleashing "fire and fury like the world has never seen." On his trip to Asia he softened his line a bit by inviting North Korea to "come to the table" and "make a deal." He then reverted to more saber-rattling. The U.S. military has been in South Korea since 1945. There is no peace treaty formally ending the 1950-53 Korean War. Maybe that would be a good place to start. Tensions must be defused. The alternative is catastrophic war.

Eric Sirotkin is a human rights lawyer. His peacemaking activities have taken him to North and South Korea. He helped found the New Mexico Human Rights Coalition and the National Lawyers Guild Korean Peace Project. He is the recipient of the City of Albuquerque's Human Rights Award. He is the author of 'Witness: A Lawyer's Journey from Litigation to Liberation.' From Alternative Radio, 1 (800) 444-1977, http://www.alternativeradio.org

2-3  "From the Vault,"

This week on From the Vault, we remember the 125th anniversary of the Wounded Knee Massacre with a 1998 Pacifica program commemorating the 25th anniversary of the American Indian Movement s (AIM) occupation of three buildings on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. The occupation was an attempt to force the United States government to relinquish Indian lands guaranteed in the 1868 Treaty of Fort Laramie; after a 71-day standoff, AIM leaders surrendered to federal agents in return for a promise to establish a commission to negotiate land issues and to address other Native American concerns.

The archival footage begins with Voices of Pacifica series narrator Kathy Still introducing the program as a special Thanksgiving program broadcast in 1998 then we ll hear a 1998 California State University, Fullerton address by Charlene Teters, a member of the Spokane Indian Tribe in Washington State and a leader in the national fight to eliminate the use of racist Native American Indian caricatures. At that time, Teters was the Senior Editor of Indian Artist Magazine, a professor at the University of American Indian Art, Santa Fe, and a founding board member of the National Coalition on Racism in Sports and Media. The program closes with actuality of a Wounded Knee Massacre commemoration concert from February 1998 featuring the late John Trudel performing 'Shoot out a Jumping Bull' and 'Great Spirit or Great Lie;' Steve Emery performing 'Hoka Blues;' the Lakota Student Alliance Welcome with Corrie Trimble; Redbird Dave Baker, performing 'From the East Come Freedom;' and 'Redsoul' performing at Wounded Knee in 1973.

From the Vault is presented as part of the Pacifica Radio Archives Preservation and Access Project, funded in part by an award from the GRAMMY Foundation and the National Historical Publications and Records Commission at the National Archives and Records Administration, and past grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Ford Foundation, and the American Archive funded by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, along with the generous support of Pacifica Radio Listeners. 12-2:30 L. Fletcher Prouty "Understanding Special Operations and Their Effect on the Vietnam War Era"

Part 3: 'A Very Special Operation.  The Assassination of JFK and The High Cabal'

The interview was conducted brilliantly by David Ratcliffe of rat haus reality press which published the book and which we offered as premiums the last couple of years which emptied the publisher's supply.

( From www.prouty.com )
"Col. Prouty was the model for the 'Man X' in Oliver Stone's film 'JFK'.
Col. Fletcher Prouty answered e-mail from this site while he was alive.

"Col. Prouty spent 9 of his 23 year military career in the Pentagon (1955-1964): 2 years with the Secretary of Defense, 2 years with the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and 5 years with Headquarters, U.S. Air Force. In 1955 he was appointed the first "Focal Point" officer between the CIA and the Air Force for Clandestine Operations per National Security Council Directive 5412. He was Briefing Officer for the Secretary of Defense (1960-1961), and for the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

"At times he would be called to meet with Allen Dulles and John Foster Dulles at their home on highly classified business. He was assigned to attend MKULTRA meetings. In this capacity Col. Prouty would be at the nerve center of the Military-Industrial Complex at a time unequalled in American History. He has written on these subjects, about the JFK assassination, the Cold War period, and Vietnamese warfare, and the existence of a "Secret Team". He backs up his his work with seldom seen or mentioned official documents - some never before released.

"Fletcher Prouty offers a rare glimpse of the "Power Elite" as described by Buckminster Fuller, or "The High Cabal" as Winston Churchill refered to them; and how they really operate. Those who have not been in a position to witness events such as these from  the inside would not understand how invisible but ultimately effective they and their power structures are."

WEDNESDAY NIGHT, NOVEMBER 22

12-1 Dave Emory, "For the Record #977 - The JFK Assassination and the Vietnam War"

Considerable attention has been devoted by the media to a TV documentary by Ken Burns about the Vietnam War. What has not been covered by Burns et al is the fact that JFK's assassination was the decisive pivot-point of the policy pursued by the U.S. in the conflict.

Excerpting The Guns of November, Part 3 (recorded on 11/15/1983), this program notes how Kennedy's decision to begin a phased withdrawal from Vietnam was one of the central reasons for his murder.

The central element in the broadcast is professor Peter Dale Scott's skillful discussion (and excerpting) of relevant National Security Action Memoranda pertaining to Kennedy's Vietnam policy. The program details Kennedy's plans to phase out direct U.S. military participation in the conflict.

Presiding over severe dissent from within his own administration, as well as from the military and intelligence establishments, Kennedy initiated this U.S. withdrawal seven weeks before his death. Two days after the assassination, Kennedy's Vietnam policy was reversed and the course of action was determined for what was to follow. In addition to canceling the troop withdrawal and providing for troop increases, the policy shift resumed the program of covert action against North Vietnam that was to lead to the Gulf of Tonkin incident. That alleged attack on U.S. destroyers (never independently verified and widely believed to be fraudulent) precipitated U.S. military escalation.

The principal documents in question are National Security Action Memoranda #'s 111, 249, 263 and 273.

National Security Memorandum 111, dated two years to the day from JFK's assassination, resolved a long-standing debate within the Kennedy assassination. That memorandum committed the U.S. to "helping" the South Vietnamese government in the war, pointedly avoiding the language "helping the South Vietnamese win the war."

Although this might appear to an untrained observer as a minor semantic distinction, it was well understood within the Kennedy administration to define the difference between a limited commitment to aiding the South Vietnamese and an unlimited, open-ended commitment to helping the South Vietnamese win.

Crafted in June 25 of 1963, NSAM 249 suspended covert operations against North Vietnam pending a review of policy.

In National Security Action Memorandum 263 (10/11/1963), Kennedy scheduled the initial withdrawal of 1,000 military personnel by the end of 1963, as part of a phased withdrawal of all U.S. military personnel.

National Security Action Memorandum 273, which was formulated by LBJ on the Sunday after Kennedy's murder (the day Jack Ruby killed Oswald) and released two days after that, negated the previous three documents. The troop withdrawal formulated in NSAM 263 was cancelled and troop increases were scheduled. The U.S. was committed to "helping the South Vietnamese win," pointedly using the language avoided by Kennedy in NSAM 111. Furthermore plans were formulated for the program of covert operations against North Vietnam that resulted in the Gulf of Tonkin Incident and the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution (permitting LBJ to plunge the U.S. into the war).

Covert operations against the North had been suspended  and were resumed in June of 1963 against JFK's wishes and apparently without his knowledge.

In the roughly 34 years since this program excerpt was recorded, other books have explored how JFK's assassination reversed U.S. Vietnam policy. One of the best is James Douglass's "JFK and the Unspeakable: Why He Died and Why It Matters."

2-2:30 Helena Norberg Hodge: "Big Picture Activism"

Local Futures, also known as Economics of Happiness, is an organization founded by Helena Norberg Hodge. They are pioneers of the new economy movement, that is dedicated to the renewal of community, ecological health and local economies world wide.

In July 2017 Helena Norberg Hodge spoke at Schumacher College in England. She began her Earth Talk by recalling the experience that changed her life, her visit to the remote region of Ladakh, in northern India. Ladakh had escaped colonial domination until the late 1970. In 1975 Helena Norberg Hodge found an almost intact traditional culture. But by the late 1980s Ladakhi culture had been dramatically changed and many of their values destroyed – not by war or slavery but by the introduction of globalized trade and consumerism.

Helena Norberg Hodge is a recipient of the Right Livelihood Award. Her book Ancient Futures describes the Ladakh experience and has been translated into more than 35 languages. She is the producer of the award-winning documentary 'The Economics of Happiness' and director of Local Futures and the International Alliance for Localization' (IAL)

Recorded on July 26, 2017. Thanks to Schumacher College. From TUC Radio, 1 (707) 463-2654, http://www.tucradio.org

"Confessions of Nat Turner 1968"

On the Heels of Nate Parker's 2016 Sundance Film Festival success with his film Birth of a Nation, chronicling the life of Nat Turner, the iconic man who led the 1831 Slave Rebellion in Virginia, we thought this was the perfect moment to tell the story of the Nat Turner film that was almost made in 1968.

At stake, one of the hero's of the African American struggle for Freedom in America was told from a "White" perspective. Included in this fictional characterization of Nat Turner created by Styron was Nat Turner's thoughts of rape and other harm to the White community which enslaved him. To hear the incredible polemics used by Ossie Davis to push back on this project is priceless.

Nate Parker's film 'Birth of A Nation' takes the story of Nat Turner and the Slave Rebellion he led to the screen from the African American perspective. We imagine Ossie Davis and James Baldwin smiling down on this moment. Produced by Mark Torres. From Pacifica Radio Archives, 1 (800) 735-0230, http://www.pacificaradioarchives.org

TUESDAY NIGHT, NOVEMBER 14

12-4:45 Col L. Fletcher Prouty

"Understanding Special Operations and Their Impact on the Vietnam War Era"

Part 2, 'The Secret Team'

This is the second of 3 programs constituting the entire book/interview "Understanding Special Operations and Their Impact on The Vietnam War Era" (1989) which we have frequently played in November over 3 weeks.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT, NOVEMBER 15

12-1 Dave Emory, "For the Record #977 - Operation Mind Control, Part 4: Subverting the Political Will, Part 2”

Continuing our examination of the intelligence community’s mind control programs, this broadcast recaps research into Jonestown. Specifically, we examine Jonestown as a probable intelligence front and extension of the CIA’s mind control efforts.

This, in turn, is against the background of indications that Julian Assange’s roots are in the Santiniketan Park Association, as well as Bernie Sanders’ associate Tulsi Gabbard, who is deeply involved with an offshoot of the Hare Krishna cult.

The program begins with a talk given by Joe Holsinger, a legislative aide to the late Representative Leo Ryan.

Mr. Holsinger made a number of points about apparent intelligence community links to Jonestown, indicating that Jonestown may well have been an “op,” with a number of facets.

Holsinger made a number of points in his presentation, including:

1.-Richard Dwyer, alleged to be CIA station chief in Guyana by credible sources was very close to Jones, who could be heard shouting “Get Dwyer out of here” in a recording made in the immediate run-up to the Jonestown massacre.

2.-George Philip Blakey, a CIA operative previously involved with UNITA in Angola, made the initial down payment on the Guyana property that became Jonestown.

3.-Blakey is the husband of Debbie Layton Blakey, whose brother Larry Layton, Jr. led the shooter squad at the Port Kaituma air strip. Lawrence Layton Sr., the father of Debbie and Larry Jr., had been chief of the Chemical Warfare Research program at Dugway Proving Grounds in Utah. Layton, Sr. and his wife Lisa were also members of the People’s Temple.

4.-There were credible accounts of the Jonestown population being used to prop up the Guyanese government.

5.-Representative Leo Ryan was co-author of the Hughes-Ryan amendment that obliged the CIA to give Congress prior notice of covert operations. If Jonestown was a CIA operation, it would have violated the Hughes-Ryan amendment. Ryan’s assassination at the Port Kaituma airstrip sent an unambiguous message agency critics.

6.-Members of the People’s Temple at Jonestown had medical checks every day, indicating that some form of experimentation may have been going on.

7.-Comparatively few of the victims actually drank the poisoned Kool Aid. Many were shot to death and others had been killed by lethal injections administered in their arms.

8.-After several days of officialdom saying that several hundred victims had been found and hundreds of others were missing, the “missing” Jonestown population were said to have been found under the first group of victims, a highly unlikely scenario.

Program Highlights Include:

1.-People’s Temple attorney Mark Lane’s attempts to get Grace Stephens–a key witness in the assassination of Martin Luther King–to Jonestown, where she would have died in the massacre.

2.-Mark Lane’s dual roles as attorney for People’s Temple (which he maintained was a “paradise on earth”) and the attorney for James Earl Ray, the patsy for the assassination of Martin Luther King. Lane’s [correct] assertion that Ray was innocent was badly tainted after the Jonestown massacre took place.

3.-Lawrence Layton’s marriage into the Philip family, whose German roots extended back to I.G. Farben and Siemens.

4.-Lawrence Layton’s work on the Manhattan Project.

5.-Orders from “high up” that all politically sensitive papers and identification were removed from the bodies at Jonestown.

6.-The fact that many of the bodies had identification tags on them.

7.-Zbigniew Brezinski aide Robert Pastor’s giving of the order to strip the bodies of identification.

8.-The suspicious suicide of Anita Philip, the wife of I.G. Farben lawyer Hugo Philip.

1-2 The Ralph Nader Radio Hour

"Representation Without Taxation!"

Economist James Henry takes apart the Republican tax plan, calling it “the largest wealth transfer in history to the ruling class” And activist, law student, Pete Davis, tells us how he’s trying to get Harvard Law School to fulfill it’s stated mission by funneling fewer of its graduates toward powerful corporate firms and more toward the public interest.

James S. Henry is an economist, lawyer and investigative journalist, and former chief economist at McKinsey & Co. He is an Edward R. Murrow Fellow at Tufts University’s Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy and INSPIRE Fellow at its Institute for Global Leadership.

“There was just a Price Waterhouse conference on this bill yesterday (Nov. 6th) behind closed doors. I heard all about it because I had a friend who went there. And he said, these people have already figured out how to game this new Trump plan, so it will make it even more full of loopholes than the tax system already is… They’re sort of chuckling among themselves at what a gigantic giveaway this would be with their clients sitting there in the room, slapping each other on the back.” James S. Henry: economist, lawyer, investigative journalist, and former chief economist at McKinsey & Co

Pete Davis is a law student at Harvard Law School, whose own website PeteDavis.org is subtitled “Civic Ideas For a New Generation.” At Harvard Law, he has launched an initiative called “The Third Century Project,” which challenges the law school to fulfill its mission by encouraging more of its graduates to go into careers in the public interest. He produced a report entitled, “Our Bicentennial Crisis: A Call to Action for Harvard Law School’s Public Interest Mission.”

“Who’s going to be the watchdog of the law? We don’t have a National Institute of Health or a Center of Disease Control for the legal system. What that watchdog needs to be for public justice – just like public health in the medical system – is the law schools. And the law school with the most power is Harvard Law School. They set the tone, and they are abdicating their responsibility as a watchdog.” Pete Davis, author of Our Bicentennial Crisis: A Call to Action for Harvard Law School’s Public Interest Mission

2-3 Todd Chretien, "Red October: The Russian Revolution"

The upheaval and regime change in Russia in 1917 “shook the world” in the words of journalist John Reed. In place of the feudal czarist monarchy came radical revolutionaries. A civil war ensued pitting former regime elements against the communists. In addition, a number of countries, including the U.S., Britain and France didn’t like what they saw and heard from Lenin, Trotsky and the other Bolshevik leaders. They invaded Russia in an attempt to destroy the revolution and bring back the old order. Churchill said the Russian Revolution must be “strangled in its cradle.” They didn’t succeed. A few years after Lenin’s death in 1924, Stalin takes over the country. His rivals are sent into exile, jailed or killed. The dictatorship calcifies. In 1991 the Soviet Union ends. The centenary of the revolution has sparked renewed interest in its history.

Todd Chretien is a member of the International Socialist Organization and is a frequent contributor to Socialist Worker and the International Socialist Review. He is the editor of Eyewitnesses to the Russian Revolution. From Alternative Radio, 1 (800) 444-1977, alternativeradio.org

"Ecstatic Revolt: The New Mythos of Eve"

As the creation story of Judeo-Christian beliefs, the biblical recounting of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden has long had profound influence around the world. So what's it like to be named Eve? World-renowned playwright and activist Eve Ensler explores her own personal journey into her namesake. The provocative author of 'The Vagina Monologues' and founder of V-Day to end violence against women suggests there's another story beneath the traditional story. For her, it's both very personal - and very political.' From www.bioneers.org 1 (877) bioneer
