BEHIND THE SCENES

From the Interim General Manager

I have okayed an extension of the current fund drive through next Saturday, but the main way we will produce additional revenue in the next few weeks is if staff members, paid and unpaid, board members, management, and some trusted volunteers start calling possible donors and asking for money, and for access to other people with more money. Kim Klein, who wrote the book on grassroots fundraising, makes it clear this is the main way non-profits can obtain funding. The overwhelming majority -- 70-80% of all charitable and philanthropic giving -- is by individuals, not companies or foundations, and the way to get it is by asking people with some money to give some and to vouch for you and introduce you to people with even more money. Let's get started. -- Michael Novick, iGM

MONDAY NIGHT,, OCTOBER 31.

12-1:30 Danny Sheehan

Course: Trajectory of Justice – The Constitution Under Fire

University of California Santa Cruz, 2015

Danny’s 2015 class focused on Natural Law and our ability to use it to help solve the issue of the “secret government” and its implications.

Such concepts as the idealistic generation (baby boomers) coupled with the civic generation (the millennials) will come together to solve the large issues of the 21st century. Some of these issues may include the usurpation of our constitutional rights through legislation such as the Authorization for Use of Force, the Patriot Act, and the National Defense Authorization Act; as well as climate change and its implications for our ever-growing population.

COURSE: Trajectory of Justice 2015

Class: 4-23-2015: Madison v. Hamilton

This class compares the political philosophies of founding fathers Madison and Hamilton.

Hamilton—Ruling Elite (Oligarchical):The role of the general population was to be ruled by their elected officials.
He proposed the idea of the National Bank and believed that moving money toward industry would strengthen the economy.
He also championed the Alien Sedition Act, which punished speech in opposition to the Executive Branch.

Madison—Natural Law Populist:The general population had to be educated to choose leaders wisely, and he believed that it was possible to find better ways for people to become more intimately involved in the government process. He supported a popular form of government where the people would be able to rule.
He was staunchly opposed to industrialism and the idea of a National Bank.
He believed that superfluous items are manufactured merely for the sake of continued industrialization. In contrast, the agrarian lifestyle was most valuable for Madison. Industrialization would only degrade the public character according to Madison. He also believed that a National Bank would encourage a small group to become wealthy.
He opposed the Alien Sedition Act because he believed that it blatantly violated the First Amendment.

1. 10th Amendment Reserved Powers, Cornell University Law School, Legal Information Institute

2. Madison vs. Hamilton. (must read before class)

3. CRS/LII Annotated Constitution Tenth Amendment

Money can distort politics. And the lack of transparency where this money comes from can further distort politics and invite corruption. Since much of the money in campaign finance is not subject to transparency laws, it has taken the name dark money. This specifically references spending by nonprofit organizations created for political spending. How much has dark money skewed American democracy? What role does transparency in spending play in ensuring the legitimacy of democracies? [ dur: 58mins. ]Stan Oklobdzija is Visiting Assistant Professor at UC Riverside’s School of Public Policy. 2:30-3:30 Can Capitalism be Fixed? (Debate)

Program #TETG-VARY001. Recorded in London, UK on October 4, 2021.

Capitalism’s origins, several centuries ago, can be traced to the expropriation of the commons and its transformation into private property. Since those hoary beginnings, it has evolved into an economic system based on the private ownership of the means of production and its operation for profit. In the last forty years or so capitalism has evolved into its neoliberal phase characterized by deregulation, punishing bubbles, economic crises and jaw-dropping income and wealth inequality. The system’s egregious excesses are sometimes addressed by lawmakers who serve up temporary bromides to placate the restless many. But they are just tinkering around the edges making cosmetic changes. The system is fundamentally the same. There is no alternative we are told. Why isn’t there?

12-1 Dave Emory, ''For the Record 1261 - “Bong-Bong and the Marcis Cintinuum”

POSTED BY DAVE EMORY ⋅ SEPTEMBER 28, 2022 ⋅ POST A COMMENT

Exploring a deep political, historical and economic dynamic, this program sets forth fundamental aspects of what the late, brilliant Sterling and Peggy Seagrave called “The Marcos Dynasty.”

This program excerpts two of their excellent books–which Mr. Emory emphatically recommends. There are links provided with each text excerpt to facilitate the acquisition of the books, which, again, Mr. Emory emphatically recommends.

Recently elected president of the Philippines (with close relatives of former president Duterte as aides), Ferdinand Marcos, Jr.—nicknamed Bong-Bong—has networked with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and renewed an invigorated, anti-China alliance.

Essential for an understanding of the Bong-Bong/Blinken liaison is awareness of Marcos, Jr.’s participation in his dictator father’s phenomenally lucrative recoveries of Golden Lily war gold secreted in the Philippines during World War II.

This subject is covered in the landmark text Gold Warriors by Sterling and Peggy Seagrave…

Separation of power,
The United States is NOT a democracy,

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

1:30-2:30 Jim Freeman, “How the Filthy Rich Profit from Racism’’

Jim Freeman is a Civil Rights lawyer and organizer who served under President Obama as a Commissioner on the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for African Americans. He is the director of the Social Movement Support Lab at the University of Denver. As he explains in this talk, after decades of hard struggle alongside communities of color throughout the US to change racist policies, it began to dawn on him that those communities were no better off because “for every injustice they thought they were solving, an equally nasty one would pop up to replace it.” He felt like they were playing “racism whack-a-mole”. It was then that he started to look into the dark forces behind what he calls ”strategic racism.”

Through incisive studies of the education, criminal justice, and immigration systems, Freeman explains how policies that keep people of color less educated, policed at impossible rates, and in constant fear of deportation, have in large part been enacted and supported by America’s ultra-wealthy.

On this episode of Pirate TV, Jim Freeman is here to talk about his new book,

"RICH THANKS TO RACISM: How the Ultra-Wealthy Profit from Racial Injustice" an in depth study of the financial data that tracks billions of dollars in donations from the Koch family, the Walton family, Bill Gates, and other billionaires that are at the root of the mass incarceration system, the vast immigrant detention system, and the dismantling of public schools within communities of color. It uncovers how Fortune 500 companies such as General Electric, Bank of America, and ExxonMobil use their economic and political clout to actively contribute to the perpetuation of racial inequities. Not only are American oligarchs promoting policies that damage Black and brown communities, but they are also increasing their fortunes while doing it. Freeman names the people, banks, corporations, and hedge funds profiting off of others’ pain and in the process answers what is stopping real progress toward social justice and equity in the United States. And at the end, he talks a little bit about what we can do about it.

2:30-3:30 Henry Giroux, ‘’The Attack on Public Education’’

Program #GIRH003. Recorded in Hamilton, ON on July 25, 2022.

These are difficult times for public education. It is under political attack by what noted educator and scholar Henry Giroux calls the “apostles of authoritarianism.” He says, “Public schools, more than ever, are subject to the toxic forces of privatization and mindless standardized curricula while teachers are de-skilled and subject to intolerable labor conditions, not unlike Walmart workers. Unfortunately, public and higher education now mimic a business culture run by a managerial army of bureaucrats, more suited to work as accountants in pencil factories than in schools. At the same time, all levels of education are under attack by right-wing politicians who are censoring history, forbidding discussions about racism, eliminating tenure, and imposing enormous restrictions on teacher autonomy.”

Henry Giroux, a prominent public intellectual, prolific writer, commentator, and scholar. He teaches at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario. He is a founding theorist of critical pedagogy. Among his many books are Neoliberalism’s War on Higher Education, The Violence of Organized Forgetting, and America at War with Itself. He is a member of Truthout‘s Board of Directors and a regular contributor to the nonprofit, independent online news organization. WEDNESDAY NIGHT, OCTOBER 26

12-1 Dave Emory, ''For the Record 1260 - ‘How Many Lies Before You Belong to the Lie” Part 22

Updating coverage of the Ukraine war, the title of this series comes from the late, brilliant political comedian Mort Sahl’s 1976 autobiography Heartland. Mort Sahl was one of Jim Garrison’s investigators in the New Orleans DA’s investigation of the assassination of JFK.

The program begins with discussion of a powerful economic motive for baiting Russia into the Ukraine war–creating a pretext for obliging Europe and Germany to forego use of the Nordstream 2 pipeline and sever the EU from consumption of Russian natural gas.

” . . . . The only way left for U.S. diplomats to block European purchases is to goad Russia into a military response and then claim that avenging this response outweighs any purely national economic interest. As hawkish Under-Secretary of State for Political Affairs, Victoria Nuland, explained in a State Department press briefing on January 27: ‘If Russia invades Ukraine one way or another Nord Stream 2 will not move forward.’ The problem is to create a suitably offensive incident and depict Russia as the aggressor. . . .”

In FTR#1245, we detailed Swiss intelligence officer Jacques Baud’s analysis of Ukraine’s impending assault on the ethnically and linguistically Russian population of Eastern Ukraine and Biden’s signing off on that operation in order to realize American and Western European goals.

Next, we present an oblique, possibly very significant element. A Foreign Policy article discussing a forbearer of EU president Ursula Von Der Leyen’s who was a key Third Reich official in Galicia (Western Ukraine).

It appears that Joachim Freiherr von der Leyen was a member of the prominent silk merchant family into which Ursula married.

Conventional family trees make no mention of him: ” . . . . Joachim Freiherr von der Leyen ( September 28, 1897 in Haus Meer , Büderich (Meerbusch) ; † 1945 in Dresden ) was a German lawyer and administrative official who worked as a district administrator in the occupied countries of Czechoslovakia and Poland during the National Socialist period and as a district captain of the district of Galicia was involved in the organization of the Holocaust. Von der Leyen comes from the von der Leyen family of silk barons in Krefeld. . . .”

Next, we highlight the ongoing lionization of Ukrainian Nazi and fascist elements in the mainstream U.S. press…

12-1:30 Danny Sheehan.

University of California Santa Cruz

Course: ‘’Trajectory of Justice - The Constitution Under Fire’’

Class: 4-16-2015: Worldviews and Modes of Ethical Reasoning

This class expanded upon the ideas introduced in the class on the 14th of April regarding the Mode of Ethical Reasoning and its implications. Prof. Sheehan stated that each person’s mode of ethical reasoning will lead to a personal philosophy which will equate to politics; psychology; spiritual expression; economic development; social form; and art, music, and dance. Each of these aspects of one’s mode of ethical reasoning can be derived from their personal philosophy. Professor Sheehan then goes into establishing the philosophic worldviews and religious or spiritual worldviews.

Much discussion ensues regarding the place of post-modernist philosophic thought within these specific worldviews.

It is concluded that Scientific Logical Positivism/Agnosticism/the Moderates is the widely accepted worldview—that which is taught in school to become productive and functioning members of society.

1:30-2:30 Noam Chomsky ‘’Notes on Resistance’’

Program #CHON273. Recorded in Oro Valley, AZ on September 26, 2022.

Resistance. How does one move from a position of dissent to resistance, direct action? As a political tactic resistance requires careful thought and must be freely undertaken. Practitioners include most famously Gandhi and Dr. King. It can come with a price. Both Gandhi and King were assassinated. Dolores Huerta, a major organizer and leader of farmworkers was arrested more than 20 times. John Lewis, the civil rights icon was severely beaten. What forms should resistance take? There is no one size fits all answer. Take Thoreau. He was opposed to the U.S. war on Mexico. He refused to pay taxes and went to jail. During the Vietnam War resistance took the form of men refusing to fight. Today young people in Extinction Rebellion and the Sunrise Movement, engage in resistance defending our planet against destructive corporations and the states that enable them.

Noam Chomsky, by any measure, has led a most extraordinary life. In one index he is ranked as the eighth most cited person in history, right up there with Aristotle, Shakespeare, Marx, Plato and Freud. His contributions to modern linguistics are legendary. In addition to his pioneering work in that field, he has been a leading voice for peace and social justice for many decades. Chris Hedges says he is “America’s greatest intellectual” who “makes the powerful, as well as their liberal apologists, deeply uncomfortable.” The New Statesman calls him “the conscience of the American people.” He is Professor Emeritus in the Department of Linguistics and Philosophy at MIT and Laureate Professor of Linguistics and Haury Chair in the Program in Environment and Social Justice at the University of Arizona. At 93, he is still active; writing and giving interviews to the media all over the world. He is the author of scores of books, his latest are Consequences of Capitalism, Chronicles of Dissent and Notes on Resistance. From Alternative Radio, 1 (800) 444-1977, www.alternativeradio.org.

2:30-3:30 Scholars’ Circle – Gerrymandering Districts based on Census Data and Inclusive Politics of Rank Choice Voting – September 25, 2022

PUBLISHED ON SEPTEMBER 24, 2022 BY HOST

State legislatures have traditionally controlled districting, with a decentralization of process and decision-making as to how they are drawn. And in recent years, technology has enabled a more complex system of gerrymandering that can challenge the principles of democracy. Indeed it could produce outcomes where the party with fewer votes has control of the democratic institution. How much have voting districts have been gerrymandered and how might it affect the upcoming elections? [ dur: 26mins. ]Christian Grose is Professor of Political Science and Public Policy at the University of Southern California. He is the co-author of The Worst Partisan Gerrymanders in U.S. State Legislatures, A New Form of Gerrymandering Using CVAP? and Independent Redistricting Commissions Increase Voter Perceptions of Fairness
Seth C. McKee is a Professor of Political Science at Oklahoma State University. He is the author of The Intersection of Redistricting, Race, and Participation , Political Conditions and the Electoral Effects of Redistricting andRedistricting does little to change which party people vote for, which can make partisan gerrymanders more effective.

Alaska’s recent special election produced a rare win for a Democrat, rather than a Republican for the state’s congressional seat. How much of it had to do with the voting process known as ranked-choice voting? Rank choice voting is meant to produce majoritarian outcomes in elections with multiple candidates. How exactly does this process work? And what are its implications for democracy? [ dur: 32mins. ]Rich Barton is Assistant Professor at the Maxwell School at Syracuse University and Research Fellow at Unite America. He is the author of How Challenges In Primaries Shift The Policy Agenda Of Political Parties and The primary threat: How the surge of ideological challengers is exacerbating partisan polarization.

‘’Billions of dollars are spent to manipulate and buy the allegiance of elected officials and the media. Those who speak up against modern sciences culture of corruption risk having their careers destroyed. Governments operate in lockstep with the pharmaceutical ambitions to erect an unregulated global regime, a “Great Reset,” that will dictate what we can eat, what medical interventions are permitted and banned, and the rewards and punishment that legislate our choices.

12-1 Dave Emory, ''For the Record 1259 FTR#‘s 1259 and 1260 How Many Lies Before You Belong to The Lies?, Parts 21 & 22. (1259 only this week)

POSTED BY DAVE EMORY ⋅ SEPTEMBER 18, 2022 ⋅ 9 COMMENTS

Von der Leyen comes from the von der Leyen family of silk barons in Krefeld. . . .”

Next, we highlight the ongoing lionization of Ukrainian Nazi and fascist elements in the mainstream U.S. press.

A long spread in the Sunday New York Times beatifies the Nazi Azov Regiment, the chief Ukrainian unit defending the Azovstal steel works.

Another NYT piece presents a heroic portrayal of a Ukrainian saboteur from the Nazi/fascist Azov and Right Sector units: ” . . . . Before the war, Svarog occasionally joined weekend training with Right Sector and National Corps, a branch of the Azov movement, both of which are aligned with paramilitary units in Ukraine. . . .”

The elevation of Ukrainian Nazis and fascists by the U.S. is exemplified by a Pentagon-sponsored athletic competition: ” . . . .This August, during the Department of Defense’s annual Warrior Games at Disney World in Orlando, Florida, liberal comedian Jon Stewart awarded a Ukrainian military veteran named Ihor Halushka the ‘Heart of the Team’ award for ‘inspiring his team’ with his ‘personal example.’ Halushka happens to have been a member of the neo-Nazi Azov Battalion, which has been armed by the US and integrated into the Ukrainian National Guard. . . . Perhaps the most famous Ukrainian Warrior Games participant is Yulia Palevska, who the New York Times has dubbed ‘a symbol of Ukrainian bravery and self-sacrifice.’. . . . Yulia Palevska and Ihor Halushka were members of the fascist Right Sector organization and Azov Battalion, respectively. . . .”

Next, we further develop Ukraine’s enemies/death list, noting the experience of former Marine Corps intelligence officer Scott Ritter.

Joining Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters and Henry Kissinger on the list, several of the members of which have been murdered, Ritter notes the presence of OUN/B youth camps in this country, possible breeding grounds for assassins.

Furthermore, Ritter correctly locates those OUN/B youth camps in the political continuum stretching from the Third Reich, through the Cold War, up to today—a continuum inextricably linked with the Gehlen organization….

1-1:30 Richard Wolff, "Economic Update”

The Economics of Colonialism Part 2 - The Neo-colonialism Variation [October 13th, 2022]

In this week's show, Prof. Wolff presents a brief summary of last week's Part 1 as basis for analyzing how WW2 provoked the political independence struggles that changed colonialism into neo-colonialism; how and why political independence is not, by itself, a break from colonialism; why neocolonialism lasts into the present and positions a rich minority of each former colony as the ally, collaborator, and agent of continued entrapment of the former colony within global capitalism. Modern neocolonialism likewise positions a poor majority that seeks real economic independence alongside political independence. The politics of most countries in the world - who are mostly ex-colonies - is a deep class war between that neocolonial minority and its majority/adversary.

In “This Week” with Mary Holland, Children’s Health Defense president, and Polly Tommey, CHD.TV programming manager, Mary and Polly discuss the latest news on COVID-19 vaccines and other issues.

By Children's Health Defense Team

This week, Mary Holland, Children’s Health Defense (CHD) president, and Polly Tommey, CHD.TV programming manager, covered the latest headlines on COVID-19, Big Pharma and other issues, including news that shares of Moderna, BioNTech, and Novavax plunged as much as 9% after President Joe Biden said, “The pandemic is over” in an appearance on CBS’ “60 Minutes.”

Polly and Mary also discussed that the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) acknowledged publicly for the first time that the agency gave false information about its COVID-19 vaccine safety monitoring, provided no explanation.

Plus, a data leak suggests the real reason health officials don’t want individual vaccine vials examined by independent scientists is that the vials are all different — and the mRNA in the shots is not intact.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT, OCTOBER 5

Gut Yontif. (For Jewish Yom Kippur ‘Holiday’)

12-1 Dave Emory, ''For the Record 1257 Pandemics, Inc., Part 7, (Too Much Monkeypox Buxiness”

This program continues discussion and analysis of the consortium of EcoHealth Analysis, Metabiota, In-Q-Tel and Munich Re–an association inextricably linked with biological warfare and generation of the Covid-19 pandemic.

First, we review the fact that Metabiota–which uses AI and social media scraping (among other tools) to gauge the “fear factor” involved with pandemic readiness (and the associated pandemic insurance policies)–was gauging the fear factor for monkey pox, which had manifested some human infections in the Congo as “low.”

This was in early 2020. Now, the disease is on the “front burner,” so to speak. People are afraid of the “new pandemic.”

Despite only 306 documented cases in the U.S. (as of 6/28/2022), hundreds of thousands of vaccine doses are being readied for human use.

The disease bears an epidemiological similarity to AIDS: an African monkey virus infecting gay males with multiple sex partners.

In addition, we review an excerpting of an op-ed column by Scott Gottlieb, the head of the FDA under Trump, a member of the conservative American Enterprise Institute and a member of the board of directors of Pfizer.

He notes that the new agency created by Biden to deal with monkeypox and other emerging infections was formerly: ” . . . . an office inside ‌the Department of Health and Human Services that is charged with coordinating the federal response to bioterrorism . . . .”

Media coverage of the outbreak characterizes monkeypox as a disease afflicting primarily gay males with multiple sex partners–similar to the epidemiology of the early AIDS outbreak.

Much of the broadcast consists of information indicating the possibility of airborne transmission of monkeypox. NB: Mr. Emory cannot comment definitely on this possibility–he presents this analysis to note the possibility.

We conclude that children have contracted the disease, without engaging in the behavior associated with the spread of monkeypox, although this is apparently quite rare.
