MONDAY NIGHT,, OCTOBER 17

12-1:30 Danny Sheehan.

University of California Santa Cruz

Course: ‘’Trajectory of Justice - The Constitution Under Fire’’

Class: 4-16-2015: Worldviews and Modes of Ethical Reasoning

This class expanded upon the ideas introduced in the class on the 14th of April regarding the Mode of Ethical Reasoning and its implications. Prof. Sheehan stated that each person’s mode of ethical reasoning will lead to a personal philosophy which will equate to politics; psychology; spiritual expression; economic development; social form; and art, music, and dance. Each of these aspects of one’s mode of ethical reasoning can be derived from their personal philosophy. Professor Sheehan then goes into establishing the philosophic worldviews and religious or spiritual worldviews.

Much discussion ensues regarding the place of post-modernist philosophic thought within these specific worldviews.

It is concluded that Scientific Logical Positivism/Agnosticism/the Moderates is the widely accepted worldview—that which is taught in school to become productive and functioning members of society.

1:30-2:30 Noam Chomsky ‘’Notes on Resistance’’

Program #CHON273. Recorded in Oro Valley, AZ on September 26, 2022.

Resistance. How does one move from a position of dissent to resistance, direct action? As a political tactic resistance requires careful thought and must be freely undertaken. Practitioners include most famously Gandhi and Dr. King. It can come with a price. Both Gandhi and King were assassinated. Dolores Huerta, a major organizer and leader of farmworkers was arrested more than 20 times. John Lewis, the civil rights icon was severely beaten. What forms should resistance take? There is no one size fits all answer. Take Thoreau. He was opposed to the U.S. war on Mexico. He refused to pay taxes and went to jail. During the Vietnam War resistance took the form of men refusing to fight. Today young people in Extinction Rebellion and the Sunrise Movement, engage in resistance defending our planet against destructive corporations and the states that enable them.

Noam Chomsky, by any measure, has led a most extraordinary life. In one index he is ranked as the eighth most cited person in history, right up there with Aristotle, Shakespeare, Marx, Plato and Freud. His contributions to modern linguistics are legendary. In addition to his pioneering work in that field, he has been a leading voice for peace and social justice for many decades. Chris Hedges says he is “America’s greatest intellectual” who “makes the powerful, as well as their liberal apologists, deeply uncomfortable.” The New Statesman calls him “the conscience of the American people.” He is Professor Emeritus in the Department of Linguistics and Philosophy at MIT and Laureate Professor of Linguistics and Haury Chair in the Program in Environment and Social Justice at the University of Arizona. At 93, he is still active; writing and giving interviews to the media all over the world. He is the author of scores of books, his latest are Consequences of Capitalism, Chronicles of Dissent and Notes on Resistance. From Alternative Radio, 1 (800) 444-1977, www.alternativeradio.org.

2:30-3:30 Scholars’ Circle – Gerrymandering Districts based on Census Data and Inclusive Politics of Rank Choice Voting – September 25, 2022

PUBLISHED ON SEPTEMBER 24, 2022 BY HOST

State legislatures have traditionally controlled districting, with a decentralization of process and decision-making as to how they are drawn. And in recent years, technology has enabled a more complex system of gerrymandering that can challenge the principles of democracy. Indeed it could produce outcomes where the party with fewer votes has control of the democratic institution. How much have voting districts have been gerrymandered and how might it affect the upcoming elections? [ dur: 26mins. ]Christian Grose is Professor of Political Science and Public Policy at the University of Southern California. He is the co-author of The Worst Partisan Gerrymanders in U.S. State Legislatures, A New Form of Gerrymandering Using CVAP? and Independent Redistricting Commissions Increase Voter Perceptions of Fairness
Seth C. McKee is a Professor of Political Science at Oklahoma State University. He is the author of The Intersection of Redistricting, Race, and Participation , Political Conditions and the Electoral Effects of Redistricting andRedistricting does little to change which party people vote for, which can make partisan gerrymanders more effective.

Alaska’s recent special election produced a rare win for a Democrat, rather than a Republican for the state’s congressional seat. How much of it had to do with the voting process known as ranked-choice voting? Rank choice voting is meant to produce majoritarian outcomes in elections with multiple candidates. How exactly does this process work? And what are its implications for democracy? [ dur: 32mins. ]Rich Barton is Assistant Professor at the Maxwell School at Syracuse University and Research Fellow at Unite America. He is the author of How Challenges In Primaries Shift The Policy Agenda Of Political Parties and The primary threat: How the surge of ideological challengers is exacerbating partisan polarization.
Joseph Z. Coll is Visiting Assistant Professor of Politics at Sewanee: The University of the South. He is the author of Demographic Disparities Using Ranked-Choice Voting? Ranking Difficulty, Under-Voting, and the 2020 Democratic Primary and the co-author of Ranked Choice Voting and Youth Voter Turnout: The Roles of Campaign Civility and Candidate Contact.
Todd Donovan is Professor of Political Science at Western Washington University. He is the author of Changing How America Votes and Self reported understanding of ranked choice voting and co-author of Self‐Reported Understanding of Ranked‐Choice Voting

“SCIENCE FOR HIRE’’ takes us on a journey through themes critical scientific issues that directly affect our health and well-being, shedding light on the hidden secrets of the scientific, pharmaceutical, and military industrial complexes. Following a long history of systemic corruption across medical organizations and schools, scientific publications and federal regulatory agencies, we enter a world where pseudo-science and misinformation rule.

‘’Billions of dollars are spent to manipulate and buy the allegiance of elected officials and the media. Those who speak up against modern sciences culture of corruption risk having their careers destroyed. Governments operate in lockstep with the pharmaceutical ambitions to erect an unregulated global regime, a “Great Reset,” that will dictate what we can eat, what medical interventions are permitted and banned, and the rewards and punishment that legislate our choices.

“Science for Hire” describes a broken system and offers hard hitting solutions to spark clarion as to take heed of the realities facing humanity today.”

WEDNESDAY NIGHT, OCTOBER 19

12-1 Dave Emory, ''For the Record 1259 FTR#‘s 1259 and 1260 How Many Lies Before You Belong to The Lies?, Parts 21 & 22. (1259 only this week)

POSTED BY DAVE EMORY ⋅ SEPTEMBER 18, 2022 ⋅ 9 COMMENTS

Updating coverage of the Ukraine war, the title of this series comes from the late, brilliant political comedian Mort Sahl’s 1976 autobiography Heartland. Mort Sahl was one of Jim Garrison’s investigators in the New Orleans DA’s investigation of the assassination of JFK.

The program begins with discussion of a powerful economic motive for baiting Russia into the Ukraine war–creating a pretext for obliging Europe and Germany to forego use of the Nordstream 2 pipeline and sever the EU from consumption of Russian natural gas.

” . . . . The only way left for U.S. diplomats to block European purchases is to goad Russia into a military response and then claim that avenging this response outweighs any purely national economic interest. As hawkish Under-Secretary of State for Political Affairs, Victoria Nuland, explained in a State Department press briefing on January 27: ‘If Russia invades Ukraine one way or another Nord Stream 2 will not move forward.’ The problem is to create a suitably offensive incident and depict Russia as the aggressor. . . .”

In FTR#1245, we detailed Swiss intelligence officer Jacques Baud’s analysis of Ukraine’s impending assault on the ethnically and linguistically Russian population of Eastern Ukraine and Biden’s signing off on that operation in order to realize American and Western European goals.

Next, we present an oblique, possibly very significant element. A Foreign Policy article discussing a forbearer of EU president Ursula Von Der Leyen’s who was a key Third Reich official in Galicia (Western Ukraine).

It appears that Joachim Freiherr von der Leyen was a member of the prominent silk merchant family into which Ursula married.

Conventional family trees make no mention of him: ” . . . . Joachim Freiherr von der Leyen ( September 28, 1897 in Haus Meer , Büderich (Meerbusch) ; † 1945 in Dresden ) was a German lawyer and administrative official who worked as a district administrator in the occupied countries of Czechoslovakia and Poland during the National Socialist period and as a district captain of the district of Galicia was involved in the organization of the Holocaust. Von der Leyen comes from the von der Leyen family of silk barons in Krefeld. . . .”

Next, we highlight the ongoing lionization of Ukrainian Nazi and fascist elements in the mainstream U.S. press.

A long spread in the Sunday New York Times beatifies the Nazi Azov Regiment, the chief Ukrainian unit defending the Azovstal steel works.

Another NYT piece presents a heroic portrayal of a Ukrainian saboteur from the Nazi/fascist Azov and Right Sector units: ” . . . . Before the war, Svarog occasionally joined weekend training with Right Sector and National Corps, a branch of the Azov movement, both of which are aligned with paramilitary units in Ukraine. . . .”

The elevation of Ukrainian Nazis and fascists by the U.S. is exemplified by a Pentagon-sponsored athletic competition: ” . . . .This August, during the Department of Defense’s annual Warrior Games at Disney World in Orlando, Florida, liberal comedian Jon Stewart awarded a Ukrainian military veteran named Ihor Halushka the ‘Heart of the Team’ award for ‘inspiring his team’ with his ‘personal example.’ Halushka happens to have been a member of the neo-Nazi Azov Battalion, which has been armed by the US and integrated into the Ukrainian National Guard. . . . Perhaps the most famous Ukrainian Warrior Games participant is Yulia Palevska, who the New York Times has dubbed ‘a symbol of Ukrainian bravery and self-sacrifice.’. . . . Yulia Palevska and Ihor Halushka were members of the fascist Right Sector organization and Azov Battalion, respectively. . . .”

Next, we further develop Ukraine’s enemies/death list, noting the experience of former Marine Corps intelligence officer Scott Ritter.

Joining Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters and Henry Kissinger on the list, several of the members of which have been murdered, Ritter notes the presence of OUN/B youth camps in this country, possible breeding grounds for assassins.

Furthermore, Ritter correctly locates those OUN/B youth camps in the political continuum stretching from the Third Reich, through the Cold War, up to today—a continuum inextricably linked with the Gehlen organization….

1-1:30 Richard Wolff, "Economic Update”

The Economics of Colonialism Part 2 - The Neo-colonialism Variation [October 13th, 2022]

In this week's show, Prof. Wolff presents a brief summary of last week's Part 1 as basis for analyzing how WW2 provoked the political independence struggles that changed colonialism into neo-colonialism; how and why political independence is not, by itself, a break from colonialism; why neocolonialism lasts into the present and positions a rich minority of each former colony as the ally, collaborator, and agent of continued entrapment of the former colony within global capitalism. Modern neocolonialism likewise positions a poor majority that seeks real economic independence alongside political independence. The politics of most countries in the world - who are mostly ex-colonies - is a deep class war between that neocolonial minority and its majority/adversary.
