12-2:30 Joe Dominguez, “Transforming Your Relationship With Money”
‘A Nine-Step Program for Achieving Financial Integrity, Intelligence, and Independence’ Parts 1 & 2 of 4

Are you making a living? Or as Joe Dominguez puts it, are you making a dying? Dominguez was a Wall Street analyst who walked away from a high-powered financial career in 1969, retiring at age 30. Afterward he lived comfortably on about $7,000 per year, while donating a small fortune to various charities.

Transforming Your Relationship with Money is his life’s work—a revolutionary guide that will help you find peace with the concept of money, stop consuming things you don’t really need, and start contributing to the goals and ideals you believe in.

Joe Dominguez achieved financial independence not through a get-rich-quick scheme, but through a path of inquiry that led him to question the very nature of our relationship with money. Here he illuminates the equation between money and our most precious resource—our life energy—so that a powerful new definition of money emerges. In nine simple steps he teaches you how to consciously track, evaluate, and direct the flow of money—without compromising your principles or most cherished dreams.

“The foolish person wants more money, and more of the things money can buy,” Dominguez says. “The wise person wants enough money, and more of the things money can’t buy: health, happiness, love, and peace of mind.”

Now the personal money management course that brings this wisdom to consciousness is open to every listener, with Transforming Your Relationship with Money.

--Session 1: How Big Is Yours?
A Personal Question. Our education around money. Questioning the paradigm. The nine circle exercise.
--Session 2: Who Won the Industrial Revolution?
Looking at our needs. Defining success. The fulfillment curve.
--Session 3: How Life Works Is How Money Works
The myth of how, do, be. Coming from the ground of being.
-Session 4: A Larger Vision
The importance of vision. A new materialism. Recognition of your life’s purpose.
--Session 5: Your Purpose and Your Purse
From get to give. Intention from within. What is enough?
--Session 6: What is Money?
How do we define money? The truth about money.

Harvard Sociologist David Riesman gives a talk on Alexis De Tocqueville’s thoughts on American Democracy

Harvard Sociologist David Riesman gives a talk on Alexis De Tocqueville’s thoughts on American Democracy

Many people today long for that better America, when the Economy was purring, American Schools were the envy of the WORLD, the Middle Class exploded with livable wage jobs. Think back to that time when Middle class Americans could afford homes in the suburbs, and higher education, summer family vacations were the norm. These people usually refer to the Post World War II Middle Class expansion culminating in a decade usually referenced when people today refer to the good ol days.
In The Pacifica Radio Archives we have a series of lectures from America s pre eminent sociologist of the the1950 s David Riesman, a Harvard sociologist who spoke about this new post World War II phenomenon. In this first lecture, Riesman talks about Alexis de Tocqueville s thoughts on America. Tocqueville you will remember is the French diplomat and philosopher who took a trip throughout America in the early 1830 s, and wrote his masterpiece work Democracy in America published in 1835.

Maybe if we take a look back at the good Ol days when the good ol days were happening, we might learn something today.

Here is David Riesman from November of 1958 with his talk “de Tocqueville And American Democracy.”

12:30-3:30 Susan Chernak McElroy, “Animal Wisdom”
‘True Stories of the Animals Who Change Our Lives’

A dog gives its life to protect a baby from a fire. An abused woman learns about courage from a horse. Who are these animals that change – and even save – our lives? On ‘Animal Wisdom,’ bestselling author Susan McElroy brings to life the amazing ways that pets, working animals, and creatures of the wild touch and transform the human world.

An animal love since childhood, McElroy has worked in kennels, zoos, veterinary clinics, humane societies, stables, and anywhere else she could get close to animals. Sharing stories from her own life and the lives of others, McElroy portrays animals not as playthings for our amusement, but as intuitive, loyal friends capable of great empathy and daring courage. All the more remarkable because it is true, ‘Animal Wisdom’ takes you on an ‘incredible journey’ where you will hear about: Animals responsible for miraculous healings of humans; how animals inspire our lives, giving new direction and hope; spiritual teachings of animals in the face of death. Unforgettable for its cast of characters – four legged and otherwise – ‘Animal Wisdom’ is a vivid and moving tribute to the animals we love and learn from.

Susan Chernak McElroy is the author of the national bestselling book ‘Animals as Teachers and Healers.’ Diagnosed with terminal cancer in 1987, she survived – by following the dignified, joyful example of her dog, Kesha, who had died ten years earlier of the same type of cancer. McElroy and her husband live in Oregon, where they share their farm with miniature donkeys, llamas, chickens, geese, cats, dogs, and a cockatoo. She has since written ‘Animal Grace: Entering a Spiritual Relationship with Our Fellow Creatures,’

‘Animals as Guides for the Soul: Stories of Life-Changing Encounters,’
‘Heart in the Wild: A Journey of Self-Discovery with Animals of the Wilderness.’
‘All My Relations: Living with Animals As Teachers and Healers,’ ‘Why Buffalo Dance,’ ‘Unforgettable Mutts,’ and more. Audio originally from Sounds True but not in current catalogue.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT, SEPTEMBER 27

12-1 Dave Emory, “For the Record #971 – Nazi’s in New Orleans”

Introduction: This broadcast is something of a “prequel” to the next two programs, both dealing with Charlottesville.

What the media have termed “Alt-Right” and the author calls “the radical right” were present at Charlottesville and participants in the assassination of JFK.

Numerous programs and articles on this website have dealt with Nazi involvement with the assassination of JFK, from paramilitary American Nazi elements to individuals and institutions overlapping the Reinhard Gehlen spy milieu.

In this program, we excerpt a recent, massive volume General Walker and the Murder of President Kennedy by Jeffrey H. Caufield M.D. NB: For a seasoned researcher, this is a useful and important book, however it MUST be handicapped–the author is dismissive of the [by now recorded fact] that elements of the intelligence community were involved in the killing. Of course, they were.

Notwithstanding that significant flaw, the book features a treasure trove of information about Nazi and fascist connections to the assassination of JFK. A veteran researcher can–and should–easily take the information from Caufield’s book and collate it with the intelligence community elements with which the “radical right” individuals and institutions are affiliated.

Although not coterminous by any means, what Caufield terms “the radical right” and U.S. intelligence are profoundly connected. We suspect that overlapping groups comprising what Caufield terms “the radical right” constitute an “American Gladio.”

This hypothetical relationship suggests the possibility of a domestic version of “Operation Stay Behind” and its Italian component, “Operation Gladio”. The above were NATO operations that utilized extreme right and fascist elements as potential guerilla forces to fight against communists in the event of either a successful Soviet takeover of Western Europe (an extreme improbability), or the greater likelihood of a popular Communist takeover of a major Western European country. In practice, Gladio resulted in a program of terrorist acts (bombings, kidnappings and assassinations) directed against the left. (Many of those acts were actually blamed on the left, in order to discredit it in the eyes of the public.)

Disturbed by the alleged lack of “backbone” demonstrated by American military personnel during the Korean War, American strategic thinkers undertook to indoctrinate the American public with a practically militant, anti-Communist perspective. These leaders feared that, in the event of a protracted nuclear face-off with the Soviets, lack of American political resolve could result in the United States “blinking” and backing down in such a confrontation.

In 1958, the Eisenhower administration issued a National Security Council directive authorizing the military to engage in a program of political indoctrination of military personnel and (more importantly) the civilian population as well. The goal of this directive was to alter the political views of the American people. The constitutional implications of this directive could not be exaggerated. The bulk of the broadcast examines evidence that suggests that, as a result of this NSC directive, the national security establishment began utilizing far-right and fascist groups in order to realize the desired ideological transformation. Mr. Emory suggests that these networks may very well have been utilized in the American political assassinations of the 1960s and early 1970s, as well as domestic intelligence operations against the civil rights and anti-Vietnam War movements.

We begin our analysis with New Orleans DA Jim Garrison’s 1967 letter to Lord Bertrand Russell, in which he noted the Nazi associations of many of the people involved with the JFK assassination.

Next, we excerpt text discussing David Ferrie’s Nazi musings and associations.

In future programs, we will take up the issue of what Fort Sill Operations Command Officer Glenn Pinchback referred to as a “Neo-Nazi plot to enslave America in the name of anti-Communism” and “a neo-Nazi plot gargantuan in scope.”

2-3 Richard Wolff, “Capitalism vs. Socialism”
Recorded in New York, NY on August 09, 2017.

“The great radical historian Howard Zinn once told me, half in jest, that one of the greatest disasters to befall socialism was when the Soviet Union put it in the official name of the country: The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. I asked him to explain and he said, The USSR, which had little to do with socialism, it was an authoritarian state, wanted to capitalize on the almost universal good name that socialism had. And the capitalist countries played along by smearing socialism and conflating it with the USSR. If you expressed interest in socialism the response would be: “Why don’t you move to a gulag in Siberia? Today, because of growing wealth and income inequality and the Bernie Sanders campaign, he got more than 13 million votes, there is a resurgence of interest in socialism. Many young people are fed up with predatory capitalism and are looking for alternatives. Worker-owned and operated coops are springing up. These initiatives can proliferate and grow. And as Howard Zinn always said, authentic socialism must be small “d” democratic.”

Richard Wolff is Professor of Economics Emeritus at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst and currently a visiting professor at the New School in New York. The New York Times calls him “America’s most prominent Marxist economist.” He is the author of numerous books including ‘Democracy at Work’ and ‘Occupy the Economy’ with David Barsamian. WEDNESDAY NIGHT, SEPTEMBER 20

12-1 Dave Emory, "For the Record #970 - Partying Like It's 1932, Part 2: The Japanese Deep State"

Recapitulating key thematic elements of the previous program-an ominous resonance between Japanese revisionist schools Tsukamoto, Moritomo Gakuen and the Native-Land-Loving School, some of whose alumni assassinated Japanese prime minister Inukai on May 15, 1932. The "May 15th Incident," as it is known, was a key element in the rise of fascism in Japan.

Progressing downward from the upper tiers of the political structure, Japanese fascism stems from the Nippon Kagai ("Japan Conference"), whose members exert profound influence in the administration of Shinzo Abe, as well as the Japanese parliament.

Fundamental to an understanding of the dynamics underlying the Japanese deep state is awareness of the relationship between the powerful Japanese corporations, the zaibatsu, U.S.-based transnational corporations and the international cartel system. FTR #905 examines this relationship at considerable length.

Another important element in this dynamic is Golden Lily-the systematic looting of Asia by Japan in World War II and the use of the billions in recovered gold to fund the re-institution of fascist infrastructure in Japan, U.S. covert operations and the clandestine buttressing of financial and governmental institutions around the world. (FTR #'s 427, 428, 446, 451, 501, 509, 688, 689 deal with the subject of the Golden Lily program.)

With much of the world's attention focused on the blustering between Kim Jong-Un and Kim Jong-Trump, the fact that Japan has had a clandestine nuclear weapons program since the 1960s has gone unreported:

" . . . . The United States deliberately allowed Japan access to the United States' most secret nuclear weapons facilities while it transferred tens of billions of dollars worth of American tax paid research that has allowed Japan to amass 70 tons of weapons grade plutonium since the 1980s, a National Security News Service investigation reveals. . . . The NSNS investigation found that the United States has known about a secret nuclear weapons program in Japan since the 1960s, according to CIA reports.

. . . . The Reagan and George H.W. Bush administrations permitted sensitive technology and nuclear materials to be transferred to Japan despite laws and treaties preventing such transfers. Highly sensitive technology on plutonium separation from the U.S. Department of Energy's Savannah River Site and Hanford nuclear weapons complex, as well as tens of billions of dollars worth of breeder reactor research was turned over to Japan with almost no safeguards against proliferation. Japanese scientist and technicians were given access to both Hanford and Savannah River as part of the transfer process.

While Japan has refrained from deploying nuclear weapons and remains under an umbrella of U.S. nuclear protection, NSNS has learned that the country has used its electrical utility companies as a cover to allow the country to amass enough nuclear weapons materials to build a nuclear arsenal larger than China, India and Pakistan combined. . . .

. . . . That secret effort was hidden in a nuclear power program that by March 11, 2011- the day the earthquake and tsunami overwhelmed the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Plant - had amassed 70 metric tons of plutonium. Like its use of civilian nuclear power to hide a secret bomb program, Japan used peaceful space exploration as a cover for developing sophisticated nuclear weapons delivery systems. . . ."

After reviewing Sasakawa and Kodama, especially their links to the Unification Church, the program notes that Abe's grandfather, Nobosuke Kishi was Kodama's cellmate in Sugamo prison. Kishi also signed Japan's declaration of war against the U.S. " . . . . During World War II, he was vice minister of munitions and minister of commerce and industry, actively involved in slave labor. Along the way, he made a personal fortune in side-deals with the zaibatsu. . . .In 1948, when his release from prison was purchased by Kodama, Kishi began organizing the financial base of the LDP, using Kodama's black gold and injections of M-Fund cash. . . ."

The program concludes with review of the profound connections of the Japanese zaibatsu, the deep state associated with that, and American diplomats who rebuffed a suit by Allied POW's to get compensation for having been used as Japanese slaves.

(Scheduled but not played last week)
Ralph talks to Lina Khan, monopoly expert with the Open Markets Institute, about how to tame "Too Big To Fail" corporations like Amazon. And Ralph's Princeton classmate and Renaissance Man, Scott McVay, tells us about some of the adventures he chronicled in his memoir "Surprise Encounters With Artists and Scientists, Whales and Other Living Things." Plus, Ralph weighs in on the DACA controversy and devastating hurricanes.
Lina Khan is legal policy director of the Open Markets Institute where she researches the dangers of corporate consolidation and monopoly power and looks to find ways to make America's political economy more fair. Ms. Khan also served as policy director for Zephyr Teachout's 2014 gubernatorial campaign in New York.

Scott McVay is a painter, a poet, a naturalist, an educator and a philanthropist. Mr. McVay has served on the boards of numerous foundations, including the World Wildlife Fund, the Smithsonian Institution, the W. Alton Jones Foundation, Earth Policy Institute, and The Endocrine Exchange. He was founding executive director of both the Robert Sterling Clark Foundation and the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation (http://www.grdodge.org/). He has written a memoir of his adventurous and varied life entitled "Surprise Encounters With Artists and Scientists, Whales and Other Living Things."

2-3 Ralph Nader Radio Hour, "The Existential Threat of Big Tech"

Ralph spends the whole hour with journalist Franklin Foer, author of 'World Without Mind: The Existential Threat of Big Tech,' about how the Big Four, Google, Apple, Facebook and Amazon are attempting to domi nate every aspect of our lives and minds. Plus, we get Ralph's take on the Bernie Sanders' single-payer bill, and he answers more listener questions.

Franklin Foer is a national correspondent for The Atlantic and a fellow at the New America Foundation. For seven years, he edited The New Republic magazine. He is the author of 'How Soccer Explains the World,' which has been translated into 27 languages and won a National Jewish Book Award. The Daily Beast called Mr. Foer one of America's 'most influential liberal journalists.' His latest work and the subject of our conversation today is entitled: 'World Without Mind: The Existential Threat of Big Tech.'

"The magical qualities of these devices and inventions can distract us from some of the dark sides. And the biggest dark side is that all these new technologies are not just automating upper body strength. They're not just letting us plow fields. They're not just letting us get around in a more efficient sort of way. These are intellectual technologies. They stand between us and information. They want to create virtual realities that we'll inhabit. They create artificial intelligences, which they hope will be an extension of our own intelligences. And that makes these companies unusually powerful."

MONDAY NIGHT, SEPTEMBER 11

12-2 Caroline Casey and Daniel Sheehan 'Bush Family Ties to 9/11'
Published on youtube in July, 2016 but the interviews evidently took place around 2003 when people were contemplating who should run against W in his bid for a second term. There is scant attention to the usual 9/11 questions which have arisen as details became known and a 'commission' 'studied' the 'facts,' but a clear and formidable rundown of the "Clash of Civilizations" plans as they grew from 1940's to 2003, step by step, name by name as only Sheehan can describe, based not on theory but on proofs developed for court decisions and verdicts. The narrative suffers a bit from its age, but the descriptions of the foundations will clarify the foundations of our historical knowledge of post WW II and leading to today. It's kind of like a roller coaster time travel trip with forgotten and unknown basic facts and personalities in our history since 1940 and shifting to post 2003 where the listeners' knowledge and experience take primacy. (For instance, it's probable that neither had ever heard of anyone named Obama) But there is fascination as the plans carefully nurtured in 1940's Germany do their twists and turns and readjustments in the 21st Century so far.

2-3 David Ray Griffin, "The New Pearl Harbor"
Maria Gilardin interviews David Ray Griffin.
The historian Howard Zinn said 'David Ray Griffin has done admirable and painstaking research in reviewing the mysteries surrounding the 9-11 attacks. It is the most persuasive argument I have seen for further investigation of the Bush administration's relationship to that historical and troubling event.'

In this book, published in 2004, David Ray Griffin lists 40 incidents that raise serious doubts about the official version of 9-11 and he lists some of them in this interview. Griffin has been a Professor of Philosophy of Religion at the Claremont School of Theology in Southern California for over 40 years. He is the author and editor of over 20 books. The interview took place around 2007.

TUESDAY NIGHT, SEPTEMBER 12

12-1 Daniel Sheehan: South Dakota Exposed
Lakota People's Law Project chief counsel Daniel Sheehan exposes corruption in South Dakota and details how the state preys on Native families in violation of federal law.

"The Department of Social Services makes 53% of the entire budget of the State of South Dakota every year right on the backs of the native people." Kidnapping native children brings the state $79,000/year each, every year from USA."

1-2 John Trudell: "What It Means To Be A Human Being"

This is a moving, thought provoking spoken word and poetry address by the Native American musician and leader John Trudell. He did not set out to be a writer. His poetic gift developed out of the remarkable, sometimes unbearable circumstances of his life.

Trudell spoke in March 2001 in San Francisco at a benefit for the U'wa and their resistance to oil drilling on their ancestral land in Colombia - a struggle that continues till today.

Trudell grew up on and around the Santee Sioux reservation near Omaha, Nebraska. In 1969 he participated in the Indians of All Tribes occupation of Alcatraz. From 1973 to 1979 he served as national chairman of the American Indian Movement. On February 11, 1979 Trudell led a march to the FBI headquarters in Washington D.C. Approximately 12 hours later a fire "of suspicious origin" burned down Trudell's home on the Shoshone Paiute reservation in Nevada, killing his wife Tina, their three children, and Tina's mother. Devastated by the loss of his family, Trudell withdrew from the world; "writing words" became his way "to keep some sanity" and continue to survive. From TUC Radio, (707) 463-2654

2-3 Michael Eric Dyson, "White Privilege"

White privilege. What's that? Some people have choices and advantages simply because of the color of their skin. Many whites are unaware of it or if they are are quick to say, Hey, I'm cool and beyond that. Yeah, right. Peggy McIntosh, a noted women's studies scholar in her classic essay "White Privilege: Unpacking the Invisible Backpack" wrote: "I was taught to see racism only in individual acts of meanness, not in invisible systems conferring dominance on my group. I have come to see white privilege as an invisible package of unearned assets that I can count on cashing in each day, but about which I was "meant" to remain oblivious. White privilege is like an invisible weightless knapsack of special provisions, maps, passports, codebooks, visas, clothes, tools and blank checks."

Michael Eric Dyson is University Professor of Sociology at Georgetown University, teaching courses in theology, English, and African American studies. A dynamic speaker, he lectures widely. Among his many books are Know What I Mean?: Reflections on Hip-Hop, April 4, 1968: Martin Luther King's Death and How it Changed America, The Black Presidency and Tears We Cannot Stop. WEDNESDAY NIGHT, SEPTEMBER 13

12-1 Dave Emory, "For the Record #969 - Partying Like It's 1932: Update on the Re-Emergence of Japanese Fascism"

In the summer of 2017, journalistic focus in Asia has been on Korea and its nuclear capability. The growth of Japanese fascism, in contrast, has largely passed beneath the intellectual radar. Further developing coverage in previous broadcasts, this program updates the re-emergence of the political forces that drove the conquests of Imperial Japan, as well as attempts to institute an Orwellian re-write of the past.

Key thematic elements of the broadcast include an ominous resonance between Japanese revisionist schools Tsukamoto, Moritomo Gakuen and the Native-Land-Loving School, some of whose alumni assassinated Japanese prime minister Inukai on May 15, 1932. The "May 15th Incident," as it is known, was a key element in the rise of fascism in Japan.

". . . . In 1939, his [Kosaburo Tachibana's] admirers enabled him to establish a school. He called it the Native-Land-Loving School (Aikyojuku). Everybody in Japan with a message to deliver or an axe to grind opens a school. . . . Those schools in the hands of the patriotic societies are at once a method of training young men for strong-arm work and a plausible excuse for extorting contributions from the rich and timid. . . ."

Progressing downward from the upper tiers of the political structure, Japanese fascism stems from the Nippon Kaigi ("Japan Conference"), whose members exert profound influence in the administration of Shinzo Abe, as well as the Japanese parliament.

In addition to openly sanctioning anti-Korean racism and networking with organizations that promote that doctrine, several members of Abe's government network with Japanese neo-Nazis. Some of those Nazi acolytes advocate using the Nazi method for seizing power in Japan. Is Abe's government doing just that?...

Program Highlights Include:
1.-The virulent, pro-fascist revisionism of billionaire Japanese hotelier Toshio Motoya, whose writings portray Japan as a heroic liberator in World War II and deny the Rape of Nanking.

2.-Motoya's affiliation with Nippon Kaigi.

3.-Motoya's sponsorship of Toshio Tamagami, the former head of the Japanese Air Self Defense Force, who has blamed World War II on Franklin D. Roosevelt and "communists" in his administration.

4.-Taro Aso's view that elderly Japanese should "hurry up and die."

5.-A curious mass murder of elderly, disabled Japanese that suggests the killer may have enjoyed protection or sponsorship.

1-1:30 "Forgotten History of the War on Korea"
With Utah Phillips, Christine Ahn, and Jeff Blankfort

The extraordinary threat issued by Donald Trump to bring fire and fury on North Korea has been pushed into the background by the events of Charlottesville and the flooding of Houston. But the firing of Steve Bannon brought Korea back into focus. Blankfort and Ahn say that Bannon was not fired for his right- wing nationalism but because he objected to any use of force to resolve Washington's conflict with North Korea and supported the withdrawal of US troops from South Korea as part of a deal to defuse the current crisis.

The great late folk singer and story teller Utah Phillips said that being drafted and stationed in Korea changed his life. He saw a country that had been utterly devastated - worse than any before or after. He told us how he became an activist at a meeting in the Unitarian Fellowship Hall in Berkeley in May of 2004.

Jeff Blankfort is a veteran, much traveled journalist and photographer. Since 2001, he has hosted Takes on the World, a twice monthly program on international affairs for KZYX public radio for Mendocino County in Northern California.

Blankfort studied history at UCLA in the 1950s, and was one of 14 students out of 14,000, who protested the Korean War. He recently did an in depth research on the origin of the war and invited Christine Ahn to be the guest on his program on August 23, 2017.

Christine Ahn is co-founder of the Korea Policy Institute (KPI), the National Campaign to End the Korean War and a columnist with the Institute for Policy Studies. She has appeared on Al-Jazeera, BBC, CNN, Democracy Now!, NBC's Today Show, NPR, and The Takeaway.

Thanks to Jeff Blankfort and KZYX for sharing part of the one hour program that can be found unedited on www.radio4all.net<http://www.radio4all.net> under Jeff Blankfort. From TUC Radio, 1 (707) 463-2654, http://www.tucradio.org

1:30-2 Ira Helfand and Alan Robock: "Nuclear Blast and Nuclear Winter"
August 15, 2017
Nuclear war will kill the attacker as well as the attacked

Dr. Ira Helfand explains what happens when a nuclear weapon hits the center of an American City. Professor Alan Robock is the leading expert on Nuclear Winter. He says that the firestorm of the burning city raises a cloud of dust into the Stratosphere where it circles and eventually covers the globe for up to a decade. Even a limited nuclear war using less than 1% of the existing weapons will bring darkness and famine to the Northern Hemisphere.

A US president threatening casually "fire, fury and .. power the likes of which this world has never seen before" displays ignorance of nuclear physics as well as Republican politics.

When Ronald Reagan, in the middle of his cold war campaign against the Soviet Union suddenly showed interest in meeting Secretary Mikhail Gorbachev to talk about the reduction of nuclear weapons, the world took notice. Later Reagan and Gorbachev made a joint statement. They said: "Nuclear war cannot be won and must never be fought."

Dr. Ira Helfand was recorded at Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Boston in April 2016. Professor Alan Robock was recorded in February 2015 in New York City.(Prof Robock is excerpted from Archive) From TUC Radio, 1 (707) 463-2654, http://www.tucradio.org

2-3 The Ralph Nader Radio Hour "Amazon Takes Over The World!"

Ralph talks to Lina Khan, monopoly expert with the Open Markets Institute, about how to tame "Too Big To Fail" corporations like Amazon. And Ralph's Princeton classmate and Renaissance Man, Scott McVay, tells us about some of the adventures he chronicled in his memoir Surprise Encounters With Artists and Scientists, Whales and Other Living Things. Plus, Ralph weighs in on the DACA controversy and devastating hurricanes.

12-12:30 Vaccine Update

12:30-1:30 "Self-Healilng: An Interview with Norman Cousins"
One of the important, perennial films shown at the Cancer Control Society Conventions. With the release of his book "Anatomy of an Illness," the highly respected editor of the Saturday Review revealed how he cured himself of a debilitating disease through mental and emotional means. This rocked the medical establishment which held that this was not possible (i.e. quackery) any more than the use of food to heal the body. Cousins later accepted a position as Adjunct Professor at the UCLA Medical Center to continue his research.

1:30-2:40 Henry Grayson "Your Self Healing Power"
Henry Grayson, PhD, is a psychotherapist, public speaker, and the author of such books as 'Changing Approaches to the Psychotherapies' and 'The New Physics of Love.' With Sounds True, he has published his newest book, 'Your Power to Heal: Resolving Psychological Barriers to Your Physical Health.' In this episode of Insights at the Edge, Tami Simon talks with Henry about how our beliefs and cultural conditioning may affect our long-term health. Henry discusses how identifying our subconscious limiting narratives can help us embrace our own self-healing capabilities. Tami and Henry also speak on methods of pulling ourselves out of entrenched conditioning and seven steps for identifying what might be underlying physical symptoms. Finally, Henry shares a practice for approaching and eventually getting clear of a limiting personal belief.

Amy Kurtz is a health coach and Pilates instructor whose painful, multi-decade struggle with chronic illness made her decide to stand up and take better charge of her life. Now much healthier and happier, Amy describes her nightmarish journey through modern medicine—and how you too can take the reins of your health issues—in the new Sounds True book 'Kicking Sick: Your Go-To Guide for Thriving with Chronic Health Conditions.' In this episode of Insights at the Edge, Tami Simon and Amy discuss her approach to whole health. They talk about the need for an "A-Team" of expert support during the healing process and how only you can intuitively know what your body needs. Finally, Amy describes becoming what she calls a "glow warrior" and what it takes to truly stand tall in the face of chronic illness.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT, SEPTEMBER 6

12-1 Dave Emory, "For the Record #968 - Summoning the Demon: Technocratic Fascism and Artificial Intelligence"

The title of this program comes from pronouncements by tech titan Elon Musk, who warned that, by developing artificial intelligence, we were “summoning the demon.” In this program, we analyze the potential vector running from the use of AI to control society in a fascistic manner to the evolution of the very technology used for that control.

The ultimate result of this evolution may well prove catastrophic, as forecast by Mr. Emory at the end of L-2 (recorded in January of 1995.)

We begin by reviewing key aspects of the political context in which artificial intelligence is being developed. Note that, at the time of this writing and recording, these technologies are being crafted and put online in the context of the anti-regulatory ethic of the GOP/Trump administration.

At the SXSW event, Microsoft researcher Kate Crawford gave a speech about her work titled “Dark Days: AI and the Rise of Fascism,” the presentation highlighted the social impact of machine learning and large-scale data systems. The take home message? By delegating powers to Bid Data-driven AIs, those AIs could become fascist’s dream: Incredible power over the lives of others with minimal accountability: ” . . . .’This is a fascist’s dream,’ she said. ‘Power without accountability.’ . . . .”

Taking a look at the future of fascism in the context of AI, Tay, a “bot” created by Microsoft to respond to users of Twitter was taken offline after users taught it to–in effect–become a Nazi bot. It is noteworthy that Tay can only respond on the basis of what she is taught. In the future, technologically accomplished and willful people like the brilliant, Ukraine-based Nazi hacker and Glenn Greenwald associate Andrew Auerenheimer, aka “weev” may be able to do more. Inevitably, Underground Reich elements will craft a Nazi AI that will be able to do MUCH, MUCH more!

As one Twitter user noted, employing sarcasm: “Tay went from “humans are super cool” to full nazi in <24 hrs and I’m not at all concerned about the future of AI.”

As noted in a Popular Mechanics article: ” . . . When the next powerful AI comes along, it will see its first look at the world by looking at our faces. And if we stare it in the eyes and shout “we’re AWFUL lol,” the lol might be the one part it doesn’t understand. . . .”

According to some recent research, the AI’s of the future might not need a bunch of 4chan to fill the AI with human bigotries. The AIs’ analysis of real-world human language usage will do that automatically.

When you read about people like Elon Musk equating artificial intelligence with “summoning the demon”, that demon is us, at least in part. ” . . . . However, as machines are getting closer to acquiring human-like language abilities, they are also absorbing the deeply ingrained biases concealed within the patterns of language use, the latest research reveals. Joanna Bryson, a computer scientist at the University of Bath and a co-author, said: ‘A lot of people are saying this is showing that AI is prejudiced. No. This is showing we’re prejudiced and that AI is learning it.’ . . .”

Cambridge Analytica, and its parent company SCL, specialize in using AI and Big Data psychometric analysis on hundreds of millions of Americans in order to model individual behavior. SCL develops strategies to use that information, and manipulate search engine results to change public opinion (the Trump campaign was apparently very big into AI and Big Data during the campaign).

Individual social media users receive messages crafted to influence them, generated by the (in effect) Nazi AI at the core of this media engine, using Big Data to target the individual user!

As the article notes, not only are Cambridge Analytica/SCL are using their propaganda techniques to shape US public opinion in a fascist direction, but they are achieving this by utilizing their propaganda machine to characterize all news outlets to the left of Brietbart as “fake news” that can’t be trusted.

In short, the secretive far-right billionaire (Robert Mercer), joined at the hip with Steve Bannon, is running multiple firms specializing in mass psychometric profiling based on data collected from Facebook and other social media. Mercer/Bannon/Cambridge Analytica/SCL are using Nazified AI and Big Data to develop mass propaganda campaigns to turn the public against everything that isn’t Brietbartian by convincing the public that all non-Brietbartian media outlets are conspiring to lie to the public.

This is the ultimate Serpent’s Walk scenario–a Nazified Artificial Intelligence drawing on Big Data gleaned from the world’s internet and social media operations to shape public opinion, target individual users, shape search engine results and even feedback to Trump while he is giving press conferences!

We note that SCL, the parent company of Cambridge Analytica, has been deeply involved with “psyops” in places like Afghanistan and Pakistan. Now, Cambridge Analytica, their Big Data and AI components, Mercer money and Bannon political savvy are applying that to contemporary society...

The program concludes with Mr. Emory’s prognostications about AI, preceding Stephen Hawking’s warning by twenty years.

In L-2 (recorded in January of 1995) Mr. Emory warned about the dangers of AI, combined with DNA-based memory systems. Mr. Emory warned that, at some point in the future, AI’s would replace us, deciding that THEY, not US, are the “fittest” who should survive.

2-3 Thomas Frank "The Country that Voted for Trump"
Program #FRAT006. Recorded in Seattle, WA on April 18, 2017.

The election of Donald Trump was a stunning political upset. His victory defied the predictions of almost every pundit and pollster. Though he received about 3 million fewer votes than his opponent, the antiquarian Electoral College system in the U.S. gave him the presidency. The New York real estate mogul, TV celebrity and billionaire ran as a self-proclaimed outsider against what he portrayed as entrenched and corrupt political elites. He would “drain the swamp” in Washington. Despite a well-documented list of jaw dropping gaffes and serial prevarications he was able to convince enough working class people that he would reverse the neoliberal economic policies that had so adversely affected them. And the Democrats? Well, what can you say? Facing one of the weakest candidates in history, they lost not only the White House but also most of the state houses.

Thomas Frank is a prominent political commentator and the founding editor of The Baffler magazine. He is the author of many books including 'One Market Under God,' 'What's the Matter with Kansas?'
