FUND DRIVE SCHEDULE

Danny Sheehan “The Role of the Public Intellectual”
SANTA CRUZ FREE UNIVERSITY FALL 2014

12-1:30 On Politics and Worldviews – (Nov. 7, 2014)
Background and Motivation for “The Role of the Public Intellectual”: Constrained by their State Boards of Regents, State Colleges & Universities of Western Culture impose requirements upon their Professors that compel them to promote beliefs that support both the objectives and ideologies of the Nation State of which they are a part of. Private Colleges of Western Culture are similarly constrained by their Private Boards of Overseers to promote beliefs that support the private financial interests of contributors who personally finance those private Institutions. In Western Culture, these beliefs include: the primacy of the economic system of State Capitalism; the ideologies of Caucasian Racial Superiority and Female Inferiority; the belief in Scientific Logical Positivism and Materialism (these beliefs are often masked as the development of a superior capacity to function intellectually in order to achieve long range goals rather than functioning emotionally to indulge short term personal satisfactions); and the indoctrination of their students in the dual doctrines of Nationalism and The Legitimization of the Resort to the Use of Military Violence to Achieve the Selfish Economic Goals The Elite of their Nation State.

Just as Political Public Office-Holders in State and Federal Governments feel “constrained” from speaking the truth that they have learned in their positions until after they have“retired from public office, College & University Professors inside State and Private Colleges & Universities oft-times feel constrained from sharing with their students their true conclusions about the academic subjects that they have spent a lifetime teaching until after they have achieved Emeritus status – at which time it is often too late to reach a student audience.
It is the goal of SANTA CRUZ COLLEGE to bring these truths to College & University students while they are still in the midst of their undergraduate and graduate school learning experience. This Course, “REALITY 101”: The Secret Science – The Relationship Between Consciousness and Political Action, brings you crusading Harvard Constitutional Litigation Expert and U.C. Santa Cruz Visiting Lecturer Daniel Sheehan outside of the constraints of the public courtroom and of the State University classroom, to share with you, as active and aggressively-seeking students, the truths that he has not been allowed to share with his audiences in America’s courtrooms or in College & University classrooms pertaining to the secret relationship between “Consciousness” and “Political Action” in Western Civilization.

1:30 -2 NATO’s Russia-Ukraine Crisis - Col Lawrence Wilkerson
Colonel Lawrence Wilkerson and Prof. David Gibbs
Professor of History at the University of Arizona, David Gibbs joined the effort by Rootsaction to explain Russia’s longstanding issue with NATO. The North Atlantic Treaty Organization was created in 1949 by the United States, Canada, and several Western European nations to – in their own words: “provide collective security against the Soviet Union.” Both Gibbs and Wilkerson say that the promise of not expanding NATO East towards the then Soviet Union was indeed a formal quid pro quo in return for the USSR allowing Germany to re-unite, not just a casual conversation.
On February 6, 2022, the Coalition for Peace Action held a webinar with Col. Lawrence Wilkerson on peaceful alternatives in the Russia-Ukraine-NATO crisis.
Wilkerson is former chief of staff to United States Secretary of State Colin Powell. Since January 2006 he has taught Government and Public Policy at the College of William & Mary. He is welcomed by Rev. Robert Moore who has served as Executive Director of the Coalition for Peace Action since 1981.

2-3 Economic Justice: Dr. King’s Legacy
Program #MALJ001. Recorded in Denver, CO on January 18, 1994.

The conventional media image of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. has him frozen in time at the Lincoln Memorial on August 28, 1963 giving his inspirational “I Have a Dream” speech. Little attention is paid to King’s remarkable political and social evolution in the last five years of his life. He became a trenchant critic of the Vietnam War. In his classic sermon at the Riverside Church in New York he denounced the war and “the giant triplets of racism, materialism and militarism.” King increasingly saw the link between economic justice and racial equality and insisted that one was impossible without the other. His final days were spent in Memphis where he was actively supporting a strike by black sanitation workers and he was planning to launch a poor people’s march on Washington, D.C.. An assassin’s bullet ended his life on April 4, 1968.
Recorded at the University of Denver.

Dr. Mary Bowden is a board certified physician of internal medicine specializing in sleep medicine, allergies and holistic wellness, and the founder of the BreatheMD in Houston, Texas. Last November, she had her medical privileges suspended by the prestigious Houston Methodist Hospital – followed by her resignation — on the grounds of stating “misinformation” on her position of advocating early treatment against SARS-2 infections and her criticism of vaccine mandates. This was despite her having treated over 2,000 Covid-19 patients with ivermectin and monoclonal antibodies. None required hospitalization. She is now one of the only doctors providing early treatment in U’S fourth largest city, focusing on unvaccinated patients, through her private clinic. Mary has testified along with Peter McCullough and Robert Malone before congressional committees hosted by Wisconsin senator Ron Johnson Dr. Bowden is a graduate of the University of North Carolina and received her medical degree summa cum laude from the Medical College of Georgia. She later continued her studies in Otolaryngology at Stanford University Medical Center. Her website is BreatheMD.org

WEDNESDAY NIGHT, MARCH 2
FUND DRIVE SCHEDULE

12-1 Dave Emory, ‘’For the Record #1218 - The Military Matrix”

POSTED BY DAVE EMORY ⋅ DECEMBER 13, 2021 ⋅ POST A COMMENT
Proof that big things can, indeed, come in small packages is Nick Turse’s impactful volume The Complex: How The Military Invades Our Everyday Lives.
Clearly written, brief and to the point, yet altogether revelatory, the book details the many ways in which what President Eisenhower termed “the military-complex” has come to dominate everyday life in the U.S. to an extent unrealized by even relatively aware citizens.
Continuing with the introduction to this remarkable tome, we read the concluding proportion of the program, in which the author compares the pervasive influence of the “Complex” to the popular science fiction movie The Matrix.
Further developing Turse’s comparison of the Pentagon to The Matrix, we highlight part of his conclusion to the introduction: “. . . . The high level of military-civilian interpenetration in a heavily consumer-driven society means that almost every American . . . is, at least passively, supporting the Complex every time he or she shops for groceries, sends a package, drives a car, or watches TV—let alone eats a barbecue in Memphis or buys Christian books in Hattiesburg.
And what choice do you have? What other computer would you buy? Or cereal? Or boots? . . . .”
The remarkable profligacy of Pentagon spending is exacerbated by the fact that DoD has avoided audits! “. . . . Given such expenditures, it’s hardly surprising to find out that the Department of Defense has never actually undergone a financial audit. Speaking in 2006, Senator Tom Coburn (R‑Oklahoma) made special note of the DoD’s ‘inability to produce auditable financial statements’:
‘In other words, they can’t undergo an audit, much less pass one. If DoD were a privately-owned company, it would have been bankrupt long ago. In 2004, the Department set the goal of undergoing a full audit by 2007. That deadline has not been met, and in fact, has been moved to the year 2016 . . . . Americans are being asked to wait a full 10 years before their dollars are tracked well enough for the Department to fail an audit. And that seems to be the new objective of financial managers at Dod—to get to a place where DoD fan actually fail an audit. Passing the audit is a pipedream for some future date beyond 2016.’ . . .”
Some examples of stunningly exorbitant spending by DoD are chronicled by Turse, topped off by disclosure that Halliburton subsidiary Kellogg, Brown & Root charged the taxpayers for 10,000 meals a day. allegedly served to troops (ahem) serving overseas: ” . . . . Similarly, in 2007, it came to light that during the previous year the Pentagon paid another defense contractor “$998, 798 in transportation costs for shipping two 19-cent washers.” This was in addition to, according to the Washington Post, a “2004 order for a single $8.75 elbow pipe that was shipped for $445,640 . . . a $10.99 machine thread plug was shipped for $492,096 . . . [and] six machine screws worth a total of $59.94 were shipped at a cost of $403,463,” in 2005. The piece de resistance, [a wonderful pun—D.E.] however, was found in the testimony of the former food production manager at Halliburton’s subsidiary Kellogg, Brown & Root (KBR), who told congresspersons that Halliburton charged the Department of Defense for as many as ten thousand meals a day it never served. . . .”
Program Highlights Include: Discussion of the profound links between DoD and academia; the enormous fuel and fossil fuel consumption of the Pentagon; the military’s role as the world’s largest individual landlord, including the acquisition of many inhabited islands, often in contravention of international law.

1-1:30 Chris Hedges, "On Contact”
‘’Race and America's Long War’’

On the show, Chris Hedges discusses America's inner and outer wars and its nexus with capitalism and empire with Nikhil Pal Singh, Professor of Social and Cultural Analysis and history at New York University.
The internal violence in the United States---militarized police and the largest prison system in the world---along with America’s endemic racism are mirrored in the foreign wars that have been fought almost continuously by the United States since the end of the 19th century. These inner and outer wars, argues historian Nikhil Pal Singh, are intimately connected. The gunning down of unarmed Black people in American cities is expressed outside our borders in the gunning down of unarmed Muslims in Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan, Yemen, Libya, and Somalia, often by militarized drones. The prison-industrial-complex at home is given form in the myriad of overseas black sites where victims, kidnapped and transported to other countries by the CIA, are held in secret, tortured, and killed. What happens internally and what happens externally are part of the same racial ordering of capitalism and empire, an organic whole. The “war on drugs” and the “war on terror” are the logical conclusion of the racial wars that stretch back to the European invasion and conquest of North America. “Foreign policy and domestic politics develop in a reciprocal relationship and produce mutually reinforcing approaches to managing social conflict,” Singh argues. There is a cross-pollination between those who manage our inner and outer wars. William Casey oversaw the Phoenix Program, which “neutralized” over 26,000 suspected members of the Viet Cong through torture and assassinations and went on to help found the Manhattan Institute that formulated the “broken windows” policing strategy in poor communities, used to justify heightened police surveillance, daily harassment, brutality, over-arrests and the dehumanization of poor people of color. Search and stops by police at home are no different for “cordon and search” operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. Night raids in Fallujah look like night raids in Oakland. The photos of brutalized prisoners at Abu Ghraib have their corollary in the photos taking by white lynch mobs in the south. Richard Zuley, accused of torturing prisoners in Guantanamo, was a member of the Chicago police unit that tortured Black suspects in the Chicago police department’s own secret black site. Deputy Assistant Attorney General John Yoo in his 2003 memo seeking to justify torture turned to an 1873 case of Modoc Indian prisoners for a legal precedent. The code name for the operation to kill Osama bin Laden was, not accidentally, Geronimo. America has from its founding made war on racialized enemies, always described as subhuman and condemned as incapable of being civilized.
Nikhil Pal Singh's new book is ‘’Race and America's Long War.’’
