FUND DRIVE SCHEDULE

12-1 Danny Sheehan, ‘’The Role of the Public Intellectual’’ – Nov. 3, 2014
SANTA CRUZ FREE UNIVERSITY FALL 2014

Background and Motivation for “The Role of the Public Intellectual”: Constrained by their State Boards of Regents, State Colleges & Universities of Western Culture impose requirements upon their Professors that compel them to promote beliefs that support both the objectives and ideologies of the Nation State of which they are a part of. Private Colleges of Western Culture are similarly constrained by their Private Boards of Overseers to promote beliefs that support the private financial interests of contributors who personally finance those private Institutions. In Western Culture, these beliefs include: the primacy of the economic system of State Capitalism; the ideologies of Caucasian Racial Superiority and Female Inferiority; the belief in Scientific Logical Positivism and Materialism (these beliefs are often masked as the development of a superior capacity to function intellectually in order to achieve long range goals rather than functioning emotionally to indulge short term personal satisfactions); and the indoctrination of their students in the dual doctrines of Nationalism and The Legitimization of the Resort to the Use of Military Violence to Achieve the Selfish Economic Goals The Elite of their Nation State.

Just as Political Public Office-Holders in State and Federal Governments feel “constrained” from speaking the truth that they have learned in their positions until after they have“retired from public office, College & University Professors inside State and Private Colleges & Universities oft-times feel constrained from sharing with their students their true conclusions about the academic subjects that they have spent a lifetime teaching until after they have achieved Emeritus status – at which time it is often too late to reach a student audience.

It is the goal of SANTA CRUZ COLLEGE to bring these truths to College & University students while they are still in the midst of their undergraduate and graduate school learning experience. This Course, “REALITY 101”: The Secret Science – The Relationship Between Consciousness and Political Action, brings you crusading Harvard Constitutional Litigation Expert and U.C. Santa Cruz Visiting Lecturer Daniel Sheehan outside of the constraints of the public courtroom and of the State University classroom, to share with you, as active and aggressively-seeking students, the truths that he has not been allowed to share with his audiences in America’s courtrooms or in College & University classrooms pertaining to the secret relationship between “Consciousness” and “Political Action” in Western Civilization.

1-1:30 ‘’Debt, The First 5,000 Years,’’ David Graeber in Conversation with Charlie Rose

This program is part of a celebration of the connection of David Graeber’s work to the real-life events of our time – In late December, 2021, this long lost interview reappeared on YouTube
The name of the anthropologist David Graeber came – again – into huge prominence at the end of 2021 when the book he coauthored with archaeologist David Wengrow was published. “The Dawn of Everything: A New History of Humanity” is described as a “dramatically new understanding of human history, challenging our most fundamental assumptions about social evolution — from the development of agriculture and cities to the origins of the state, democracy, and inequality — and revealing new possibilities for human emancipation”.
Sadly, David Graeber is not present to enjoy the acclaim or to participate in debates about the many provocative ideas laid out in the 704 page book. He died only weeks after finishing the book on September 2, 2020. He was 59 years young.
A professor of anthropology at the London School of Economics, Graeber taught anarchism and anti-capitalist movements. “He was a hugely influential anthropologist, political activist and public intellectual,″ said Professor Laura Bear, head of the anthropology department at the London School of Economics. “Our community of staff and students will not be the same now he is gone, but we know his brilliant work will be read by generations to come.”

David Graeber was an assistant professor at Yale University from 1998 to 2005, when the university, controversially, decided not to renew his contract before he was eligible for tenure. Graeber moved into what he called “academic exile” in the UK, first to the University of London and finally the London School of Economics.
David Graeber’s 2011 book “Debt: The First 5,000 Years” was an anti-capitalist analysis that struck a chord with many readers in the wake of the 2008 financial crisis. Another response to the 2008 crisis was Graeber’s participation in the Occupy Wall Street movement, that began in Zuccotti Park in New York City’s Wall Street Financial District, in September 2011 – the same year Graeber’s book “Debt: The First 5,000 Years” was published. It gave rise to the wider Occupy Movement in the United States and other countries.

In late December, 2021, a long lost interview showed up on YouTube that was conducted by television journalist and talk show host Charlie Rose. There is no exact date associated with this 23 minute clip but the topic is Graeber’s book “Debt: The First 5,000 Years” published in 2011. And Charlie Rose is asking Graeber about Debt, Occupy Wall Street, Democracy, and Capitalism.

1:30-2 Conversation Between Brian Eno and David Graeber

Hosted by Artangel at the Royal Geographical Society, London on October 7, 2014 Even though Brian Eno and David Graeber both had become internationally
famous by 2014, the musician, visual artist and culture critic Brian Eno and the Professor of anthropology, author and co-founder of Occupy Wall street, David Graeber had not yet met in person. And here, thanks to the creative concepts of Artangel, they met on stage for an improvised conversation.
Artangel is a London-based arts organization that has – since 1985 – commissioned and produced notable site-specific works in unexpected places, plus several projects for TV, film, radio and the web.
Michael Morris is the co-director. He is introducing Brian Eno and David Graeber. These are excerpts of their 80 minute conversation on Occupy Wall street, democracy compared to anarchism, and the need to protect the first amendment right of assembly from police permits and superior rights of traffic and automobiles.
This event was hosted by Artangel at the Royal Geographical Society, London, on October 7, 2014. Find their work – including the 80 minute version of this conversation on YouTube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cuBpOXGLn_o

2-3 Vandana Shiva, “Interconnectedness”. (March 3, 2020)

The corporate takeover of food with its toxic chemical inputs poses serious health and environmental problems. Corporate agriculture, The New York Times states unequivocally “is causing irreparable harm to the planet.” It is “ravaging the air, soil and water, destroying wildlife habitats and spurring climate chaos. The system, a vast web of industries and processes that stretches from seed to pasture, to packaging, to the supermarket, to the trash dump, produces at least a third of all human-caused greenhouse gases.” There are alternatives. We can learn much from traditional organic farming techniques as practiced by indigenous farmers. In this program, Vandana Shiva describes the importance of biodiversity and the interconnectedness of all life. She says, “What we do to the Earth, what we do to the land, what we do to biodiversity eventually comes back to us. There is no separation.”

Vandana Shiva is an internationally renowned voice for sustainable development and social justice. She’s a physicist, scholar and social activist. She is a founder of Navdanya and Director of the Research Foundation for Science, Technology and Natural Resource Policy in New Delhi. She is the recipient of the Sydney Peace Prize and of the Right Livelihood Award, the alternative Nobel Prize. She is the author of many books including Water Wars, Earth Democracy, Soil Not Oil, and Oneness vs the 1%.

3-4 Gary Null The Progressive Commentary Hour – 02.08.22
THE COLLAPSE OF JOURNALIST INTEGRITY/ WHO REALLY OWNS EVERYTHING
Kristina Borjesson is an award-winning investigative reporter in print, television and radio and internationally known for blowing the whistle on US mainstream journalism outlets for censoring the truth on major stories and for being purveyors of false official-source narratives. She has the distinction, arguably, of being the most repeatedly censored network TV producer of her generation, having had three networks kill sensitive stories they’d assigned to her, including
two stories on the crash of TWA Flight 800 and on who created and disseminated the false narratives to manufacture consent for the Iraq war. At CBS, she won an Emmy and the Murrow award for her work on the documentary “Legacy of Shame,” about migrant farmworkers in America. Kristina has authored several books. Her first was “Into the Buzzsaw: Leading Journalists Expose the Myth of a Free Press,” an anthology of first-person accounts by accomplished journalists writing about being censored. The book won the National Press Club’s Arthur Rowse Award for Media Criticism and the Independent Publisher’s Gold Medal Award in the Current Events category. Her book “Feet to the Fire” about the media after 911 was the basis for documentaries aired on PBS and France’s Canal Plus. She independently wrote and directed the feature-length documentary, “TWA Flight 800” in which six high-level whistleblowers from the government investigation of the crash of a jetliner that exploded off the coast of New York in 1996. The show was the Epix Channel’s highest rated program ever at the time it aired. Borjesson currently hosts the award-winning show, “The Whistleblower Newsroom” on the Progressive Radio Network on every Friday at 7am PST

WEDNESDAY NIGHT, FEBRUARY 16
FUND DRIVE SCHEDULE

12-1 Dave Emory, ‘’For the Record #1216: The Dealey Plaza Blues’’
POSTED BY DAVE EMORY ⋅ NOVEMBER 30, 2021 ⋅ POST A COMMENT

Revisiting the event that propelled Mr. Emory into this field of endeavor, this program reflects on the assassination of President Kennedy on the 58th anniversary of his killing.
One source of Mr. Emory’s “Dealey Plaza Blues” is a depressing piece in Rolling Stone magazine from 11/22/2021.
In addition to the minor stylistic sin of ending a sentence with a preposition, Tim Weiner tars those who have grasped the documentary truth of the JFK assassination as victims of Soviet/Russian propaganda.
In the midst of the red-baiting, Weiner does offer one unintentionally ironic, true statement: “ . . . . Our body politic is being poisoned by lies. . . .”
Ironic article selection by The New York Times featured a multi-page story on the Chinese purchase of a Freeport McMoRan cobalt mine in the Congo.
This story, too, was published by Times on the anniversary of the assassination.
Presenting the predictable ideological framing of the purchase as part of China’s grab of minerals that are key to the development of “Green” technologies, the article comprises a synopsized, slanted Cold War recapitulation of U.S. mineral development in the Congo, with particular emphasis on the reign of Joseph Mobutu.
(What does not occur to U.S. media outlets, is that China’s proprietary advances in this area are an altogether comprehensible strategy for continued industrial expansion in the century to come, while moving to reduce greenhouse gases and pollution in keeping with the international legal and diplomatic targets for environmental sustainability.)
Below, we present information featured in FTR#‘s 1054, 1055 and 1056.
The article has historical resonance on this 58th anniversary of JFK’s assassination in several respects: …
