"Jesus: His Religion or The Religion About Him?” Part 1 From http://www.alanwatts.org

MONDAY NIGHT, JULY 31, 2017

12-2 Saturday With Sheehan, July 15, 2017 (from Standing Rock) (video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5r9jqjg4Oh8&t=159s )

Daniel Sheehan is president and co-founder of the Romero Institute and the former president and co-founder of the Christic Institute.

Carrying degrees from Harvard College and Harvard Law School, Daniel has helped lead more than a dozen lawsuits of historic importance, including three Supreme Court cases. Among the lawsuits Mr. Sheehan has joined are as follows:

The Pentagon Papers Case (New York Times Co. v United States) Eisenstadt v. Baird In re Pappas: Branzburg v. Hayes The Watergate Burglary Case (United States v. George Gordon Liddy, et al.) The Wounded Knee Trials Morton v. Mancari The Karen Silkwood Case (Silkwood v. Kerr McGee) The Three-Mile Island Case (PIRC v. Three Mile Island) The American Sanctuary Movement Case (U.S. v. Stacey Lynn Merkt, et al.) The Greensboro Massacre Case (Waller v. Butkovich) The Iran-Contra Affair (Civil) Case (Avirgan v. Hull, et al) Standing Rock Defense of Chase Iron Eyes Mr. Sheehan’s legal work has helped expose the structural sources of injustice in the United States and around the world.
Daniel currently lives in Santa Cruz, CA and teaches at the University of California at Santa Cruz. You can view the archive of Daniel Sheehan’s UCSC courses at http://www.romeroinstitute.org/learn/ucsc-class-archive/ . He is the author of a memoir, 'The People’s Advocate.'

In this latest monthly interview by Kosta Makers, http://www.ETLetsTalk.com , Sheehan is speaking from Standing Rock which, while being ignored generally by the media, is a very much alive case. For instance, the court has found the pipeline to be unlawful from environmental and civil rights law, but nothing has been done about this mere court decision; the trash of the City of Bismarck was dumped at Standing Rock to discredit the Water Protectors; the relation between the TigerSwan troops and the (formerly called) Blackwater; Trump's financial interest in the Dakota Access Pipeline, and much more. Sheehan is the lawyer for Chase Iron Eyes who is being charged with 'insurrection.' Sheehan reveals much unknown information about what has been and is going on at Standing Rock which is very much a major battle by the full spectrum dominance forces formed in 1992 against indigenous peoples of the world. Second and related question he answers is on 'the Trump-Russian thing' and third question on the importance of universities in the battle to save the planet from environmental destructive forces and the importance of maintaining a cosmic perspective now that the new telescopes have revealed that our Milky Way contains not a hundred million stars but four to five hundred million.

One important factor about Dan Sheehan is that his assertions, ideas and 'theories' are based on the legal standard that they are backed by evidence and able to be proved in court, not just seemingly cogent. His history of the last decades of activism is recounted in "The People's Advocate" https://romero-institute.squarespace.com/store/daniel-sheehan-the-peoples-advocate

2-3 From the Vault: Carlos Hagen Presents, ‘Violeta Parra, Woman of the Continent’

Carlos B. Hagen-Lautrup III, simply known as Carlos Hagen to his KPFK Los Angeles audience. Born in Santiago Chile in 1929, Carlos Hagen moved to Los Angeles in 1962 and began producing KPFK programming the same year, and continued making tapes at home until 1974. He died in Malibu California in 2010.

His programs ranged from a 1962 Frank Zappa performance to an interview with Dr. Ralph Greenson that same year. on the unhealthy Psychological values in American Society. He also devoted much time to unheralded Chilean artists, poets, and musicians throughout his time on the air.

In February 1973, Carlos Hagen turned his attention to Violeta Parra, the highly influential Chilean musician who scoured the Chilean pueblos beginning in the 1950's to document traditional songs for all occasions. Violeta Parra would reconstitute what she learned from her travels into a new folkloric music or Nueva Cancion to help tell the stories of contemporary society.

She would influence musicians in her own country such as Victor Jara as well as here in the United States. Her most popular song, Gracias a La Vida was covered by artists such as Argentinean Mercedes Sosa, Mexico's Chavela Vargas and American Joan Baez.

And now we present this 1973 program, in which Carlos Hagen presents incredibly rare Violeta Parra recordings from his personal collection and gives incredible insight into each song, translating important passages and context into English for his American audience. This is one of the most beautiful and heartfelt programs among Carlos' 500+ shows for KPFK.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT, AUGUST 2, 2017

12-1 Dave Emory, “For the Record #964 – Lies, Damned Lies, and Statistics”

As we have noted in many previous broadcasts and posts, cyber attacks are easily disguised. Perpetrating a “cyber false flag” operation is disturbingly easy to do.

This is of paramount significance in evaluating the increasingly neo-McCarthyite New Cold War propaganda about “Russian interference” in the U.S. election.

Compounding the situation are some recent disclosures and developments:

1.–We learn that the CIA’s hacking tools are specifically crafted to mask CIA authorship of the attacks. Most significantly, for our purposes, is the fact that the Agency’s hacking tools are engineered in such a way as to permit the authors of the event to represent themselves as Russian.

2.–The NSA’s elite hacking technology has been made widely available to the hacking community, courtesy of “The Shadow Brokers.”

3.–During the 2016 Presidential campaign, Michael Flynn was professionally involved with numerous cyber-security and cyber arms manufacturing firms: “ . . . . The month before Flynn joined the advisory board of OSY Technologies, NSO Group opened up a new arm called WestBridge Technologies, Inc., in the D.C. region. (The company was originally registered in Delaware in 2014, but formed in Maryland in April 2016.) Led by NSO Group co-founder Lavie, WestBridge is vying for federal government contracts for NSO Group’s products. Hiring Flynn would provide NSO Group with a well-connected figure in Washington, to help get its foot in the door of the notoriously insular world of secret intelligence budgeting. . . .When you’re trying to build up your business, you need someone who has connections, someone who is seen as an authority and a legitimate presence,” Johnson said. Hiring someone with Flynn’s background in intelligence would ‘open up doors that they wouldn’t have had access to,’ Johnson said.Throughout 2016, Flynn worked for a number of cybersecurity firms personally and through his consulting firm, Flynn Intel Group. In addition to his advisory board seat at OSY Technologies, he sat on the board of Adobe Systems, a large software company with Pentagon contracts, and the boards of the cybersecurity companies GreenZone Systems and HALO Privacy. (Though Flynn described himself as an Adobe advisory board member in his financial disclosure paperwork, the group said in a statement that he provided only “periodic counsel to Adobe’s public sector team.”) . . .”

4.–NSO Group and OSY Technologies specialize in spear-fishing attacks, one of the methodologies used in the hacks of U.S. election computers. Is there any link between Flynn’s cyber-security/cyber arms links and the high-profile hacks during the campaign?

5.–A GOP tech database–Deep Root–Exposed the data of almost two hundred million American voters to widespread scrutiny. Is there any connection between Deep Root, the GOP and the alleged Russian hacking of U.S. voting computers? …

2-3 Max Blumenthal “Palestine: 50 Years of Occupation”
Recorded in Boulder, CO on April 13, 2017.

Fifty Years have passed since Israel’s victory in the Six-Day War resulting in the longest military occupation in modern times. And on the ground there has been a radical shift in demographics because of the settlements. What began as a few scattered outposts has now mushroomed into vast sub-divisions and cities with Jewish only road networks connecting them make it difficult for Palestinians to travel. About 600,000 Israelis now live beyond the country's 1967 borders. The Palestinians are being squeezed into ever smaller and smaller enclaves, isolated and without sufficient water. The settlements, illegal under international law, are a key obstacle to the resolution of the conflict. But Israel continues to expand them. Each new house makes the possibility of a just peace more remote. And Washington makes it all possible with its ongoing economic, military and diplomatic support for Israel. Interviewed by David Barsamian.

Max Blumenthal is an award-winning journalist and author of ‘Goliath: Life and Loathing in Greater Israel’ and ‘The 51-Day War: Ruin and Resistance in Gaza.’ He is a senior writer for Alternet, and his articles have appeared in The Guardian, The Nation, The New York Times, and other newspapers and journals. 3-4 Professor Ilan Pappe, “Israel-Palestine Through the Lens of Settler-Colonialism”

Ilan Pappe was born in Haifa and educated in Israel. He was a senior lecturer in political science at the University of Haifa (1984–2007) and chaired the Emil Touma Institute for Palestinian and Israeli Studies. He received world attention as one of Israel’s “New Historians” who, since the release of secret British and Israeli government documents in the early 1980s, have been re-writing the history of Israel’s creation in 1948, and the corresponding expulsion of more than 700,000 Palestinians from their homes and villages that became known as the Nakba – the catastrophe.

Ilan Pappe left Israel in 2008, after Israel’s minister of education called for him to be dismissed from the University of Haifa. He also received several death threats. Since then, he has been a professor of history with the College of Social sciences and International Studies at the University of Exeter in the United Kingdom.

He spoke on March 24, 2017, at the National Press Club in Washington, DC. He was introduced by Dale Sprusansky, the assistant editor of the Washington Report on Middle East Affairs.

Once a year – since 2014 – a conference on the Israel Lobby and American Policy has been held in Washington DC at the National Press Club. Sponsored by the Washington Report on Middle East Affairs and the Institute for Research: Middle Eastern Policy, it invites speakers of international importance. Among them in 2017 John Mearsheimer, co-author of the best selling book “The Israel Lobby” and Professor Ilan Pappe, author of “The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine”- among many other books.

Since critical discussion of US support for Israel is a taboo topic the conference receives no attention from the mass media and very little by the alternative press. This led them to miss a compelling speech by Israeli historian Ilan Pappe. He explained how Israel became a settler colonial state, and that it now ranks among those that have instituted a system of Apartheid similar to that found in post World War II South Africa which was widely condemned by the world. Professor Ilan Pappe concluded that facts on the ground created by Israel with the expansion of settlements now make a two state solution impossible.
