BEHIND THE SCENES

While we are searching for a new General Manager, Moe Thomas has been running things as a (terrific) GM at KPFK. But he has been managing WPFW, Washington DC as his main position and also helping KPFT in Texas. For one thing he saved “Something’s Happening!” by refusing to fire me when ordered. And he let Buzz reappear as a constant helper in many activities as a volunteer.

But while the General Manager is being searched for, we have hired Michael Novick as an acting GM. He has been active for years at KPFK in many ways as a board member and I think he has been a temporary part-time GM before.

One immediate activity is to arrange the next fund drive since we failed to make our goal in the last ones. So the job will be to have a successful drive - with all the politicians asking us to help them in their elections. Not easy timing.

1:30-2:30 Howard Zinn, “American Exceptionalism”

Program #ZINH048. Recorded in MIT, Cambridge, MA on March 14, 2005.

American exceptionalism has been a fundamental tenet of U.S. foreign policy. International law applies to designated enemies, not for Washington and its vassals. Obey the master or face the consequences. Assassinations, sanctions, bombings, invasions and occupations are all tools of the empire to enforce its diktats. As George H. W. Bush once said, echoing Tony Soprano, “What we say goes.” The arrogance is bi-partisan. But since January 6, the question begs: Is this the end of American Exceptionalism?

Howard Zinn, professor emeritus at Boston University, was perhaps this country’s premier radical historian. He was born in Brooklyn in 1922. His parents, poor immigrants, were constantly moving to stay, as he once told me, “one step ahead of the landlord.” After high school, he went to work in the Brooklyn Navy Yard. During World War II, he saw combat duty as an air force bombardier. After the war, he went to Columbia University on the GI Bill. He taught at Spelman, the all-Black women’s college in Atlanta. He was an active figure in the civil rights movement and served on the board of SNCC, the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee. He was fired by Spelman for his activism. He was among the first to oppose U.S. aggression in Indochina. His book Vietnam: The Logic of Withdrawal was an instant classic. A principled opponent of imperialism and militarism, he was an advocate of non-violent civil disobedience. He spoke and marched against the U.S. wars on Afghanistan and Iraq. His masterpiece, A People’s History of the United States, continues to sell in huge numbers. Among his many other books are You Can’t Be Neutral on a Moving Train, Failure to Quit: Reflections of an Optimistic Historian and Original Zinn with David Barsamian. Shortly before his death he completed his last great project, the documentary The People Speak. Always ready to lend a hand, he believed in and practiced solidarity. Witty, erudite, generous and loved by many the world over, Howard Zinn, friend and teacher, passed away on January 27, 2010. He would say, Don’t mourn. Get active. The struggle for peace and justice continues.

TUESDAY NIGHT SPECIAL SEPTEMBER 27

12-4 “UPTON SINCLAIR: THE REVERENT RADICAL”.

“Upton Sinclair (1878-1968) was the world’s most widely read author and social crusader in California, who pioneered the kind of journalism known as “muckraking.’’

In January, 1978 I got a call from a subscriber who asked what KPFK was doing for the Upton Sinclair Centenary. I knew of no plans and had no plans but the caller emphasized the historical importance of the man and the centennial, so I offered him some airtime in September on my show. He said he’d write a play. Great!

In June I called the subscriber and asked him how his play was coming. He hadn’t started it!! I panicked and told him I’d handle the centenary program myself as time was passing. (I had never completely produced a program)

All I knew about Upton Sinclair was that he wrote a book, “The Jungle” which exposed the horror of how our meat was processed. President Theodore Roosevelt read it and improved it by law. (Sinclair wrote over 100 books) So I hit the library to learn more, and fortunately also went to the Pacifica Radio Archives which stored great treasures which were integrated into the program.

The program was produced on weekend nights (my first production) and played on the Centenary and won an Armstrong Award for Community Service in competition of national commercial and non commercial radio.

For more information on this formidable and historic figure you have to listen to the show which coincidently is on tonight!

WEDNESDAY NIGHT, SEPTEMBER 28

12-1 Dave Emory, ''For the Record 1256 - Pandemics Inc., Part 6

POSTED BY DAVE EMORY ⋅ AUGUST 14, 2022 ⋅ POST A COMMENT

NB: The information in this program and accompanying description is largely a recap of material presented in the first five programs in this series. It is repeated and presented in a different order in the audio file.

This repetition is due to: A) the highly technical nature of much of the discussion of the viral composition of SARS CoV‑2 and related viruses and B) the tremendous significance of this information.

Continuing analysis of a frightening consortium of institutions apparently linked to the deliberate genesis of Covid-19, this program reiterates elements of analysis from FTR#‘s 1254 & 1255, presenting the information in a different sequence for increased understanding and retention.

Those institutions are: EcoHealth Alliance, Metabiota, In-Q-Tel and Munich Reinsurance.

Taken together, a number of points of information highlighted here go a long way to proving the legal concept of “consciousness of guilt,” the guilt being intent to create the pandemic and knowledge that such a thing was done.

(The information presented here should be taken in conjunction with information presented in–among other programs–FTR#‘s 1151, 1152 and 1153. In turn, those programs are developments of documentation presented in our many programs about Covid-19.)

Of paramount importance in evaluating the material here and in the other broadcasts about Covid-19 is the development of synthetic biology and the manner in which it enables biological warfare: “ . . . Advances in the area mean that scientists now have the capability to recreate dangerous viruses from scratch; make harmful bacteria more deadly; and modify common microbes so that they churn out lethal toxins once they enter the body. . . In the report, the scientists describe how synthetic biology, which gives researchers precision tools to manipulate living organisms, ‘enhances and expands’ opportunities to create bioweapons. . . . Today, the genetic code of almost any mammalian virus can be found online and synthesised. ‘The technology to do this is available now,’ said [Michael] Imperiale. “It requires some expertise, but it’s something that’s relatively easy to do, and that is why it tops the list. . . .”

Going a long way toward proving consciousness of guilt are:

1.–The behavior of Peter Daszak and colleagues in “gaming” the Lancet statement on the “natural” origin of the coronavirus (Daszak’s EcoHealth Alliance–funded and advised by the national security establishment–is implicated in the creation of the SARS COV‑2.)
2.–The reaction of government officials to Trump administration officials into the origins of the virus, advising would be investigators that such inquiries would open a “can of worms,” or “a Pandora’s Box” because it would should light on U.S. funding of the projects.
3.–Metabiota–partnered with EcoHealth Alliance–was networked with In-Q-Tel (the intelligence community’s venture capital arm) and Munich Re to provide pandemic insurance. Their 2018 business model directly foreshadowed the pandemic.
4.–Many aspects of the SARS COV‑2 virus, including its curious FCS site and institutionalized obfuscation of aspects of the pandemic it caused suggest deliberate cover-up. Why would the NIH redact 290 pages of a document requested by an FOIA suit!! Why were sequences of bat coronavirus genomes removed from public view? It’s remarkable just how damning our beginning article is…

2:30-3:30 The Ralph Nader Radio Hour

“Everyone is entitled to a defense” contend large law firms when they represent notorious corporate clients, but many of these firms push the ethical envelope. That’s the crux of the discussion Ralph has with David Enrich as outlined in his book, “Servants of the Damned: Giant Law Firms, Donald Trump, and the Corruption of Justice.” Plus, we welcome Dr. Michael Jacobson, founder, and former director of Science in the Public Interest to tell us how we need to raise taxes on Science in the Public Interest to reduce alcohol-related deaths and mayhem.

David Enrich is the Business Investigations Editor at the New York Times, and the bestselling author of Dark Towers: Deutsche Bank, Donald Trump, and an Epic Trail of Destruction. His latest book is Servants of the Damned: Giant Law Firms, Donald Trump, and the Corruption of Justice.

The protagonist pretends to be Jewish to explore the problem for a magazine article. (From Chabad: ''Yom Kippur is the holiest day of the year, when we are closest to G‑d and to the essence of our souls. Yom Kippur means “Day of Atonement,” as the verse states, “For on this day He will forgive you, to purify you, that you be cleansed from all your sins before G‑d.”).
