2:30-3:30 From the Vault #008 "American Soldier"

This week we celebrated Veterans Day in the United States. Our troops, meanwhile, are still fighting in Afghanistan and Iraq. Pacifica has always had a unique relationship with soldiers and the military. Whether it was Pacifica's founding by conscientious objector Lewis Hill, the Network's coverage of the Vietnam War by sending the first American journalists to that country to witness the intense fighting and relaying the war experience back to the country, by covering the Winters Soldier Investigation, or today's conscientious objectors and returning veterans, Pacifica has always covered war unlike any other media in America and created an environment for soldiers to speak more freely and openly. This week, on From the Vault, we hear the voices of the American soldier. Because the American G.I. does not always fit the image our government has created. Produced, written, & edited by Christopher Sprinkle.

12:30-1:30 Ronald Siegel: 'The Psychophysiological Component in Healing'

Ronald Siegel is a longtime assistant professor of psychology at Harvard Medical School and the author of many books. With Sounds True, he has created the audio program 'Healing Through Mindfulness: Effective Practices for Chronic Health Conditions.' In this episode of Insights at the Edge, Tami Simon and Ron talk about the psychological contributing factors to chronic pain—especially in the back and spine. Speaking on his own brush with debilitating pain, Ron explains the ways that stress and other psychophysiological components can instigate everything from insomnia to irritable bowel syndrome. Ron and Tami also discuss how to have frank conversations around chronic pain, as well as how to make friends with negative emotions like fear and anxiety. Finally, Ron shares his thoughts on the increasing willingness of the medical community to embrace mindfulness meditation.

1:30-2 Article:
"House Democrats Could End Federal Marijuana Ban in 2019. Will They?"
By Mike Ludwig, Truthout www.truthout.org (October 24)

2-3 Jack Herer "The Emperor Wears No Clothes"
An amazing, impassioned, and informative talk by one of the leaders of the marijuana freedom movement and author of 'The Emperor Wears No Clothes.' Jack was a frequent guest on the show, but this talk before a live audience captures the emotional urgency, courage, and informative educational nature of Jack's presentations to a 'Reefer Madness' society. He promotes hemp as a substitute for conventional sources of medicine, paper, fiber, and fuel. He explains that, although he was a conservative Republican, he pointed toward the hypocrisy of a nation which supports the tobacco industry, uses polluting fuels, and helps in the destruction of the world's rainforests. He also tells the story of how he found the U.S. Government's Dept. of Agriculture 1942 film 'Hemp for Victory' though the Nixon administration denied it existed. Recorded in Santa Cruz, August 12, 1990. (The "Hemp for Victory" film can be seen at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d3rolyiTPr0&t=3s From Pacifica radio Archives, 1 (800) 735-0230, www.pacificaradioarchives.org Program #KZ1554.

3-3:30 The Bioneers: Revolution from the Heart of Nature"
'Under the Skin We're All Kin: Reading the Minds of Animals"
Calling someone an “animal” means they’re less than human – not worthy of respect, rights, or even of life itself. But in truth — and in biological fact — human beings ARE animals. Scientists continue to find that intelligence and what we call “consciousness” appear to saturate all of nature. Clearly it’s high time to think differently about just what it means to be an animal. Can we know what it’s like to be other-than-human? How can we see into the minds of animals? Visionary naturalist, author and conservationist Carl Safina says that the first step is paying attention and observing. And, he suggests, if we had humility, we’d have everything.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT, NOVEMBER 14

12-1 Dave Emory, "For the Record #1026-The So-Called “Arab Spring” Revisited, Pt 2"

In FTR #’s 733 through 739, we presented our view that the so-called Arab Spring was a U.S. intelligence operation, aimed at placing the Brotherhood in power in Muslim countries dominated either by a secular dictator or absolute monarchy.

Continuing analysis from our previous program, this broadcast delves further into the networking between the Muslim Brotherhood and Al-Qaeda. Against the background of the occupation of Idlib Province in Syria by Al-Qaeda, we highlight the apparent role of Morsi’s government and the Muslim Brotherhood in the events surrounding the 2012 attack on the U.S. Embassy in Benghazi, Libya.

The overthrow of Khadafy in Libya was an outgrowth of the so-called Arab Spring, as was the precipitation of the civil war in Syria. Of particular significance is the fact that the GOP-led investigations of the Benghazi attack led directly to both the investigation of Hillary Clinton’s e-mails and the decisively significant FBI tampering with the 2016 election, as well as the alleged “hack” of Hillary’s e-mails!

An Egyptian newspaper published what were said to be intercepted recordings of Morsi communicating conspiratorially with Muhammad al-Zawahiri, the the brother of Ayman al-Zawahiri, the head of Al-Qaeda. Much of this checks out with information that is already on the public record.

Note the networking of GOP Senators John McCain and Lindsay Graham with Khairat El-Shater of the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood while he was in prison, as well as the alleged links between the Egyptian Brotherhood and the cells involved in attacking the U.S. Embassy in Libya.

What we may well be looking at is a gambit along the lines of what has become known as the October Surprise–collusion between the Iranian Islamists and George H.W. Bush/CIA/GOP to (among other things) destabilize the Carter administration and 1980 re-election campaign.

In addition, we wonder about a deal having been struck to have Al-Qaeda fight against Bashar Assad in Syria, while avoiding attacks inside the U.S.?

Of primary focus in the material below is Khairat El-Shater (transliterated spellings of his name differ.) El-Shater:,,,

1-2 The Ralph Nader Radio Hour
Initially heard on KPFK Mondays 2 pm
http://www.ralphnaderradiohour.com

2-3 Edward Said, "U.S. Interventions in the Middle East"
Program #SAIE035. Recorded in Seattle, WA on May 08, 2003.

The current occupant of the White House has said, “The Middle East is a troubled place. There are a lot of bad things happening in that part of the world.” Indeed. But why is it troubled place and why are bad things happening there? There is no mention of Washington’s role. Actions have consequences. U.S. invasions, occupations, coups and economic warfare in the Middle East have significantly contributed to turning the region into a disaster area. Washington has aligned itself with feudal despotic regimes. Decades ago, the U.S. identified Middle Eastern oil as crucial to its designs to dominate the world. Fast forward. The 2003 U.S. invasion of Iraq has to be one of the greatest war crimes in history. Its ramifications continue to reverberate throughout the Middle East and beyond. And Palestine? Things are as bleak as ever.

This never before broadcast archival program marks the 15th anniversary of Said’s death.

Edward Said, internationally renowned Columbia University professor, practically invented the field of post-colonial studies. His great work, Orientalism has been translated into many languages and is widely used in colleges and universities. The New York Times called him, "one of the most influential literary and cultural critics in the world." As one of the few advocates for Palestinian rights in the U.S., he was the target of vilification, death threats and vandalism. The Economist said he "repudiated terrorism in all its forms and was a passionate, eloquent and persistent advocate for justice for the dispossessed Palestinians." He was a trenchant critic not just of Israeli policies, but also of Arafat, the corrupt coterie around him and the despotic Arab regimes. He felt strongly that intellectuals had a special responsibility to speak out against injustice, challenge power, confront hegemonic thinking and provide alternatives. His friend Noam Chomsky said of him, “Said was one of the most remarkable and influential intellectuals of the last half century. Much of his immense effort and talent was dedicated to overcoming the insularity, prejudice, self-righteousness, apologetics that are among the pathologies of power and defending the rights of the victims.” His memoir Out of Place won the New Yorker Book of the Year Award. He published two books of interviews with David Barsamian, The Pen & the Sword and Culture & Imperialism. Edward Said died in New York on September 25, 2003. 3-3:30 The Bioneers - Revolution from the Heart of Nature 'Vice to Virtue - Carbon Farming'
How does a virtue become a vice? How does a basic building block of life turn into a threat to life? And how do you turn that vice back into a virtue? In this half-hour we visit with two unlikely pathfinders who are helping to revolutionize farming. Calla Rose Ostrander and John Wick of the Marin Carbon Project are taking carbon out of the atmosphere and putting it back where it belongs: in the soil. In so doing, they’re also revitalizing the soil, conserving water, and building agricultural resilience. Scaling up these revolutionary regenerative methods can offset the climate destabilization, which that threatens to confound agriculture and endanger our food supply.
