Lakota Peoples Law Project Update: Chase Iron Eyes Hearing
Dan Sheehan and Lanny Sinkin Report April 5:
For months, the State of North Dakota has failed to pursue or provide required evidence to the defense team representing Lakota People's Law Project Lead Counsel Chase Iron Eyes. At a crucial hearing on Tuesday, Apr. 4, Judge Lee Christofferson made several rulings in favor of the defense.
Christofferson ruled that Morton County Sheriff Kyle Kirchmeier and the State of North Dakota must hand over all missing evidence by May 1, and he scolded the deputy state's attorney for his lack of action. Christofferson also granted defense lawyer Alex Reichert and Lakota People's Law Project attorneys Daniel Sheehan and Lanny Sinkin the authority to subpoena employees of TigerSwan, the mercenary security firm hired by Dakota Access pipeline parent company Energy Transfer Partners. Our defense team alleges that TigerSwan ran a targeted, racist, no-holds-barred surveillance and smear campaign against Chase and other water protectors.
Once the evidence is handed over, our defense team will have 120 days to continue a discovery process that could free Chase and his fellow defendant, HolyElk Lafferty - and shine a light on the illegal collusion of industry, law enforcement, and TigerSwan.

12:30-1:30 Rick Jarow, "The Ultimate Anti-Career Guide"
'The Inner Path to Finding Your Work in the World'
According to the perennial wisdom teachings, your vocation is not a means of survival in the world-it is a pure expression of your life force. Vocation arises, not as a response to external forces, but authentically from within your own body.
To the modern mind, this approach to work sounds radical. But for more than 3,000 years, sacred traditions in the East and West have allowed vocation to serve as a platform for spiritual and material growth. The Ultimate Anti-Career Guide is the first audio curriculum that adapts this classic approach to right livelihood to the challenges unique to our place and time.
Based on the national anti-career workshops taught by Dr. Rick Jarow since 1988, this is the same life-changing program that has helped thousands of frustrated job-seekers open to their intuition, transform their values into action, and answer their true calling-instead of settling for a paycheck.
Traditional career strategies are simply reactions to the job market, Dr. Jarow begins-for example, matching an inventory of skills with the want ads. An anticareer is a manifestation of the unique blueprint for your destiny encoded in your body since birth. The key to this revolutionary approach is your body's chakra system, the seven centers that govern the free flow of prana, or life force, through your body. Through a program of powerful meditations, you gain direct access to your chakras, clearing and aligning them with the energetic forces that make everything in life possible.
You don't have to go out looking for a job, Dr. Jarow says. The job you were born to do will unfold in time, like a tree from a seed, as you let go of self-limiting concepts and open to the energy of creation-with The Ultimate Anti-Career Guide.
Session 7: The Eight Lodges of Power
The Lakota medicine wheel. Aligning inner wantings with outer projects. Three techniques for mobilizing energy. Allies: beings who are karmically contracted to help you. "The woman's lodge.' More.
Rick Jarow is a professor of religious studies in Vassar College, a former Melon Fellow at Columbia University and a practicing career counselor. His popular Anti-Career Workshops, which he has taught internationally, are based on years of research and practice encompassing both Eastern and Western Traditions. He is the author of 'In Search of the Sacred' and 'Creating the Work You Love.'

1:30-2:30 David Whyte, "Clear Mind, Wild Heart"
'Finding Courage and Clarity Through Poetry'
"In the middle of the road of my life, I awoke in a dark wood, where the true way was wholly lost." When you find yourself without bearings, as Dante Alighieri voiced so well centuries ago, where will you look for guidance?
Throughout the ages, teaches David Whyte, the language of poetry has held the power to lend us courage, to give us the vision of those who endured, and to hazard ourselves boldly at the fierce edges of our lives. On Clear Mind, Wild Heart you will join this acclaimed poet and teacher to engage with the poetic imagination as your companion and guide for the difficult terrain we are all traversing.
Poetry, teaches Whyte, offers immediate and powerful tools unique from any other tradition. It can help us to see beyond the fragile surfaces of our lives, open us to the universal cycles and patterns that shape our lives, and awaken our conversation with what has been called the Untouchable, the Numinous, or the Eternal.
Clear Mind, Wild Heart guides you into the wellspring of this living poetic tradition through six hours of exploration and poetry with David Whyte, including the verses of such inspired voices as Emily Dickinson, William Blake, W.B. Yeats, Marina Tsvetayeva, Rainer Maria Rilke, Antonio Machado, and others. Through their words, you will discover how to apprentice yourself to beauty and find a place of belonging where you can hold loss and grief, the challenges of change, and the wonder of new discovery and adventure.
The language of poetry takes us outside of our small selves and calls us to look at ourselves and the world with open eyes, teaches David Whyte. Whether you are a lifelong poetry lover or new to its insights and pleasures, Clear Mind, Wild Heart is an inspiring guide to answering that call.

12:30-2 "Energy Medicine"
'Subtle Energies, Consciousness, and the New Science of Healing'
Is the human body merely a complex biological machine, or is our health sustained by 'subtle energies' that can be guided for healing? These are the questions that are posed by the field of energy medicine. Since 1990, the International Society for the Study of Subtle Energies and Energy Medicine, the ISSSEEM, has hosted the world's most eminent scholars and practitioners within this revolutionary new medical field. From the effects of bioelectromagnetic energy on the body to the healing effects of prayer to subtle energy practices of other cultures, 'Energy Medicine' gathers the best of ISSSEEM's celebrated conferences into one thought-provoking reference set. Twelve in depth and authoritative presentations will be presented here over the next several weeks.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT, APRIL 11
12-1 Dave Emory, "For the Record #998 - In Politics, Nothing Happens by Accident": Weaponized Feminism and the #MeToo Movement
"A liberal's idea of courage is eating at a restaurant that hasn't been reviewed yet."-Mort Sahl.
We begin our discussion of weaponized feminism with its ultimate manifestation-a joint call by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and Harvey Weinstein accuser Angelina Jolie for NATO to commit its resources to defending women's rights.
Note that they cite Kosovo as a salient example of their feminist "call to arms." As discussed in FTR #161 , among other programs, fighters in the Kosovo Liberation Army were largely descendants of World War II fascist fighting formations, including the 21st Waffen SS Division-the Skanderbeg Division.
The irony in Stoltenberg and Jolie's call for NATO to enforce women's rights in Kosovo, among other places could not be more profound: " . . . . Kosovo's Prime Minister Hashim Thaci is facing a wide range of criminal allegations, including owning a harem with 52 female sex slaves . . . . According to the news agency, a Ukrainian woman escaped from Thaci's harem and revealed damning information about sex slavery in Kosovo. The woman claims 52 female sex slaves are forced to work night and day to service the Prime Minister and his rich friends in business and government. . . ."
Next, we turn to what may well be another example of NATO weaponized feminism. Among the victims of the #MeToo movement was Rep. John Conyers (D-MI), a prominent congressional critic of the Nazi Azov Battalion, receiving arms and training from the U.S.
In 2018, NATO forces are scheduled to engage in maneuvers in Ukraine.
It is not surprising that Kristofer Harrison (the author of an apologia for the Nazi Azov Battalion in Ukraine) is a former Defense Department and State Department advisor to George W. Bush (and from the same political milieu of Kurt Volker, the Trump administration's CIA-trained representative to Ukraine.) Noteworthy in his propaganda piece dismissing Representative John Conyers (D-MI) as "the Kremlin's Man in Congress" and discounting anyone else discussing the ascension of the OUN/B fascists in Ukraine in a similar vein, is the identity of his source for assurances that Azov is not a Nazi unit.
With Al Franken's departure from the Senate-an event that figures to make the Democrats' chances of regaining control of the chamber more precarious-we reflect on aspects of Franken's departure, including the right-wing affiliations of Leann Tweeden, the apparent foreknowledge of the event by long-time GOP dirty trickster Roger Stone, the extreme difficulty of a public figure successfully suing for defamation under American civil law, the utility of "sexpionage" from the standpoint of intelligence and counterintelligence and the proclivity of the so-called "progressive sector" for one-dimensional identity politics.
We note that the now-famous photograph of Franken "groping" Leann Tweeden's breasts was obviously a staged event, not to be taken seriously. (The taste here is questionable, although as can be seen from two other photos of the same USO tour, the dominant aesthetic of this tour was bawdy, tongue-in-cheek. Note the photos of Tweeden goosing a male C &W performer and Franken and Tweeden mugging over a skimpy undergarment. It is clear that neither is to be taken seriously.)
We conclude the program with examination of technocratic fascism in action-the Twitter bot role in the takedown of Franken...
On November 15th, a Japanese developer named Atsufumi Otsuka registering a web domain in Japan called RealUSA.site, on the same day Roger Stone announced over Twitter that it's Franken's "time in the barrel"-one day before the story broke.
Then, on November 20th, Alt-Right provocateur Charles Johnson tweeted, "Thinking of offering money to people who go on tv and say Al Frank is a predator." That same day, Otsuka registered a second domain in Japan for another fake-news site, VotyUS.me.
The two fake news sites were finally put to use on December 7, shortly before Democrats started calling for Franken to step down. The sites re-published an article by Ijeoma Oluo, a liberal writer, urging women and activists to stop supporting Franken. Oluo's piece, titled "Dear Al Franken, I'll Miss You but You Can't Matter Anymore," was posted on relatively obscure website that only had a reach of of 10,000 followers. But once the article got reposted to those two fake news sites the twitter bot networking suddenly sprang into action, with thousands of fake Twitter accounts tweeting the title of the article-but linking back to repost of the article on the fake news sites, RealUSA.site or VotyUS.me.
Although it's not clear who paid for the Twitter-bot activity, it's hard to ignore the coincidental timing. Researchers have concluded that it wasn't cheap. They estimate that it required dozens of hours of initial development time and at least one person working full time to produce and distribute content. The whole task of setting up this Japanese Twitter bot army to amplify the calls for Senator Franken to step down was deemed by whoever paid for it to be worth the time and money...
" . . . . A pair of Japan-based websites, created the day before Tweeden came forward, and a swarm of related Twitter bots made the Tweeden story go viral and then weaponized a liberal writer's criticism of Franken. The bot army-in tandem with prominent real, live members of the far right who have Twitter followers in the millions, such as Mike Cernovich-spewed thousands of posts, helping the #FrankenFondles hashtag and the "Franken is a groper" meme effectively silence the testimonies of eight former female staffers who defended the Minnesota Democrat before he resigned last year. . . .
. . . . One question remains: Who is paying for this operation? The researchers believe that the operation was expensive. 'We estimate dozens of hours of initial development time and at least one person working full time to produce and distribute content,' one of the researchers told Newsweek. 'Additionally, it's likely that an existing bot farm of compromised computers is basically being rented as a distributed host for these accounts.' . . . ."

1-2 The Ralph Nader Radio Hour (Catchup)
Ralph talks to journalist Gareth Porter about why both liberals and conservatives should be afraid - be very afraid - of warhawk John Bolton's appointment as Trump's National Security Advisor. And author/activist Julie Wark joins us to talk about why she is "Against Charity."
Gareth Porter is an independent investigative journalist and historian specializing in US national-security policy. Mr. Porter received the 2012 Gellhorn Prize for journalism for his coverage of the US war in Afghanistan. His latest book is "Manufactured Crisis: The Untold Story of the Iran Nuclear Scare."
"I think this is the moment of greatest peril in terms of a very serious war being carried out by the United States, simply because of Bolton and Pompeo and Trump. That combination is something that we have not seen in the White House in any administration since World War II. And I think that should motivate people to take action in a way that nothing we have seen so far has." Gareth Porter: independent investigative journalist and historian specializing in US national-security policy
Julie Wark is an Australian/Spanish citizen and a resident of Barcelona for 27 years. She is a translator of novels, essays, short stories, poetry, and exhibition catalogues, a long-term human rights author/activist, and is on the editorial board of Sin Permiso, a Spanish language magazine of international politics. She is the co-author along Daniel Raventos of "Against Charity," where they argue for an unconditional universal basic income above the poverty line and paid for by progressive taxation.
"He (Bill Gates) can nudge state and global funding into any area he wishes to prioritize. So for example at the World Health Organization, one staffer has said that hardly any major policy decisions are taken without being 'vetted' by Gates' foundation staff... So, for example it's much praised for its work on malaria in Ethiopia, but the quid pro quo of that is that Bill Gates hates public health. He says it's a waste of time and a waste of money - public health services. So he comes in with his mosquito nets. People overlook the fact that these mosquito nets are drenched with insecticides, which have to be replenished every so often. And insecticides are another part of Bill Gates' business, which I think can probably be taken back to Monsanto." Julie Wark, co-author of "Against Charity."

2-3 Ralph Nader Radio Hour (current)
Ralph welcomes conservative Constitutional scholar, Bruce Fein, who argues against the appointment of John Bolton as National Security Advisor and why that should be a position confirmed by the Senate. Plus, Jack Gillis, co-author of "The Car Book," gives us tips on how to buy the safest, most reliable car. And, a listener asks, "Did Ralph pave the way for Citizens United?"
Bruce Fein is a Constitutional scholar who was Associate Deputy Attorney General under President Ronald Reagan. Mr. Fein has been a Visiting Fellow for Constitutional Studies at the Heritage Foundation and an adjunct scholar at American Enterprise Institute. He has advised numerous countries on constitutional reform, including South Africa, Hungary and Russia. He is author of "Constitutional Peril: The Life and Death Struggle for Our Constitution and Democracy," and "American Empire: Before the Fall."
Jack Gillis is Director of Public Affairs for the Consumer Federation of America. Previously, he spent three years with the U.S. Department of Transportation, where he was responsible for developing the government s automotive information program. He spent ten years as a contributing correspondent for NBC's Today Show on consumer affairs and for over thirty years has authored "The Car Book," the annual guide that has provided invaluable assistance to consumers in the ever more complex process of buying a car.

3-3:30 The West Virginia Wildcat Strike of 2018 - Olivia Morris
West Virginia teacher and grassroots strike leader, Olivia Morris, talks about the historic 9 day wildcat strike that lasted from February 22 to March 7, 2018. She is in conversation with Stacy Davis Gates, political director for the Chicago Teachers Union.
This is a personal, very candid conversation about a strike in an anti union right to work state, about alliances between teachers and public workers, a broken down health care system, how low or no taxes for coal and gas extraction diminish the money needed for education and more.
The Chicago Teachers Union described the event this way: "The wildcat strike by West Virginia teachers, among the lowest paid teachers in the nation, has ignited public support across the state and the nation, with teachers in states from Oklahoma to Kentucky looking at strategies to bring the West Virginia model of strike resistance and rank and file democracy to their states."
"In West Virginia, teachers rejected efforts by political leaders and top union officials to convince them to settle without an iron clad guarantee of improved wages, enshrined in legislation, not just for them but for all state public employees. Teachers struck for those guarantees even though West Virginia is a 'right-to work' state which bans strikes by public workers."
The wildcat strike derailed plans by state legislators to jack up health insurance premiums in the Public Employee Insurance Agency (PEIA) and to jam through a charter school bill being promoted by corporations.... Teachers and their supporters are demanding West Virginia legislators reverse corporate tax cuts, raise gas severance tax and hold harmless any public programs that prioritize the needs of struggling state residents in any plan to fund their raises."
Thanks to Dale Lehman from WZRD radio in Chicago. He recorded the event on March 9, 2018. From TUC Radio, 1 (707) 463-2654, www.tucradio.org
