MEET OUR (SORT OF) NEW GENERAL MANAGER!!!!
KPFK will now embark in the untried and strange experiment of having a manager that understands the station and radio and KPFK. Anyel can even drop his phone and computer and pick up a wrench or screwdriver when needed. The staff is exultant.
Anyel Zuberi Fields to be Next KPFK General Manager
Fields returns to KPFK to lead Pacifica's Los Angeles area station
(Los Angeles) - Pacifica's Interim Executive Director Bill Crosier announced today that Anyel Zuberi Fields will return to KPFK, 90.7FM, as the next General Manager of the station, effective on or around Jan. 29, 2018. "I am very happy that Mr. Fields is coming back to lead the staff and volunteers at KPFK", Crosier said. "Christine Blosdale has been a wonderful interim GM for almost a year, but she declined to apply for the permanent GM position. She desires to be best utilized by the station and the network as a major fundraiser during fund drives and special events."
Fields said, "I'm excited about this opportunity to work for KPFK, Pacifica, its members, and listeners. It is my hope and determination to contribute to a prosperous future for KPFK."
Fields has over 6 years of commercial radio experience, was an interim General Manager at KPFK for a year starting in mid-2014, and was the Operations Director at KPFK for 8 years before that. Crosier said "I'm excited that we were able to bring back Mr. Fields, with his extensive knowledge of how KPFK works, and about its staff and volunteers and listeners. He has so much enthusiasm and great ideas for increasing listenership and membership and donations, while making sure that KPFK remains the place on the dial for independent news, music, culture, and public affairs that you can't hear anywhere else in southern California."

More secrecy surrounds the murder of Martin Luther King than even that of the Kennedys. Most people still believe that James Earl Ray, who never even had a trial, was the lone assassin. Dr. William Pepper, who became Ray's lawyer, has uncovered evidence of the involvement of the Memphis police department, the US government and even the US Army in a plot to kill one of the most influential leaders of the 20th century. His book: 'An Act of State, The Execution of Martin Luther King' represents a quarter century of detective and legal work.
In a moving turn of circumstance and historic coincidence, Bill Pepper, who today is an author and acclaimed lawyer who practices international law from London and convenes a seminar on interna- tional human rights at Oxford University, is the same Bill Pepper, who as a young man went to Vietnam as a reporter. He returned with photos of children burned by napalm that shocked the world.
Martin Luther King saw those photos in Ramparts Magazine in early 1967. Witnesses say that he wept as he looked at them. He asked to meet the young man who had taken them and thus began a friendship between Martin Luther King and Bill Pepper and the King family that has now lasted over 50 years.
This program presents Pepper's detailed, decade long investigative work of the crime scene around the Lorraine Motel and his discovery of the identity of the person who received the murder weapon from King's assassin and disposed of it.
His work also led to the identity of a second group of people at the crime scene. An Alpha One 84 team was in Memphis on the day of the assassination.
Bill Pepper spoke at a San Francisco bookstore in February of 2003.

This program details the process of mainstreaming "Alt Right" neo-Nazis. As we has been discussed before, this has been underway at Breitbart for some time. This analysis is presented against the background of our decades-long discussion of the Nazi tract Serpent's Walk. The back cover of that book sums up the essence of the tome: " . . . It assumes that Hitler's warrior elite - the SS - didn't give up their struggle for a White world when they lost the Second World War. Instead their survivors went underground and adopted some of their tactics of their enemies: they began building their economic muscle and buying into the opinion-forming media. A century after the war they are ready to challenge the democrats and Jews for the hearts and minds of White Americans, who have begun to have their fill of government-enforced multi-culturalism and 'equality.' . . ."
BuzzFeed has a long piece based on a cache of leaked emails that describe behind-the-scenes efforts at Breitbart to mainstream the "Alt Right" neo-Nazis. This story firms up analysis of Breitbart as a white nationalist publication run by neo-Nazis for the purpose of mainstreaming neo-Nazi ideals.
Those efforts primarily revolved around Milo Yiannopoulos, who is:
1.-Tasked with reaching out to "Alt Right" figures.
2.-Getting comments from them about what the "Alt Right" was all about.
3.-Then, later getting feedback from them about the planned articles before they were published.
It was clearly a group effort. Those efforts included Andrew 'the weev' Auernheimer, Curtis Yarvin (the founder of the "Dark Enlightenment" movement), and Devin Saucier, a neo-Nazi Yiannopoulos describes as his best friend.
Of primary interest here is the cunning exercised by Yiannopoulos, Bannon et al in parsing just what they can get away with doing and what they must avoid. " . . . . By Yiannopoulos's own admission, maintaining a sufficiently believable distance from overt racists and white nationalists was crucial to the machine he had helped Bannon build. . . .'Thanks re 1488,' Yiannopoulos responded. . . .'I have been struggling with this. I need to stay, if not clean, then clean enough.'"
The emails included back and forths between Yiannopoulos and Breitbart editors about whether or not the publication was getting too openly friendly with the Nazis, with Yiannopoulos being told at one point that it was fine to use a "shekels" joke but "you can't even flirt with OKing gas chamber tweets."
Program Highlights Include:
1.-Curtis Yarvin's statement that he was "coaching" Peter Thiel on politics.
2.-How the two Yiannopoulos passwords found in the emails were "a password that began with the word Kristall", and "LongKnives1290".
3.-How the formidable economic power of the Mercer family serves as a legal intimidation factor for anyone labeling Yiannopoulos as a racist or Nazi.

We live in an era of fake news. Fabricated reports go viral on social media. Totally false stories are concocted then tweeted and retweeted. Fantastical theories and wild claims are circulated in cyberspace. It's as Orwell says in 1984, "The lie became truth." There is a lot of fire and fury inflaming the news cycle. The term fake news is an all-purpose smear, used by the president and his supporters to deride and dismiss reporting they don't like. A recent study found that Facebook was by far the platform through which people used to get to a fake news site. The report also noted that older, less educated people were particularly susceptible to fake news. Are facts up for grabs? How are we to navigate the mine laden waters of propaganda and fake news?
Julian Assange, journalist, activist and computer programmer is the founder of WikiLeaks, the whistle-blowing website. WikiLeaks collects and shares confidential information on an international scale. He sought asylum in the Ecuadorian embassy in London in 2012 to escape allegations of sexual assault. Those charges have since been dropped. Nevertheless, he believes that if he leaves the embassy he will be nabbed by the U.S. and prosecuted for publishing thousands of classified documents made available by Chelsea Manning. In 2016, his work again drew enormous attention when WikiLeaks published thousands of emails from U.S. presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and the Democratic National Committee.
