The existing economic system in most countries is a kind of state capitalism. It produces enormous inequalities. Its extraction practices are environmentally destructive. Perhaps indigenous models provide a viable alternative. Chief Seattle was a Susquamish chief in what is now Washington State. He reportedly made these observations in an 1854 letter to U.S. President Pierce: “How can you buy or sell the sky? the land? The idea is strange to us. If we do not own the freshness of the air and the sparkle of the water, how can you buy them? Every part of the earth is sacred to my people. Every shining pine needle, every sandy shore, every mist in the dark woods, every meadow, every humming insect.” And he warned: “Continue to contaminate your bed, and you will one night suffocate in your own waste.”
Roxanne Dunbar-Ortiz grew up in rural Oklahoma, the daughter of a tenant farmer and part-Indian mother. She has been active in the indigenous movement for more than four decades and is known for her commitment to social justice issues. Critics of the U.S. criminal justice system such as Michelle Alexander and Bryan Stevenson have assailed the rise of mass incarceration with its disproportionate impact on people of color. The war on crime that began in the 1970s was supported by many African American leaders in the nation’s urban centers. The first substantial cohort of black mayors, judges, and police chiefs took office amid a surge in crime and drug addiction. Many prominent black officials, including federal prosecutor Eric Holder, feared that the gains of the civil rights movement were being undermined by lawlessness. They thus embraced tough-on-crime measures, including mandatory sentencing and aggressive police tactics and what Angela Davis called, the prison-industrial complex. In the face of skyrocketing murder rates and the proliferation of open-air drug markets, African-American officials and community leaders believed they had no choice. But the policies they adopted would have devastating consequences for residents of poor black neighborhoods.
James Forman Jr. is a Professor of Law at Yale Law School. and was a law clerk for Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor. After clerking, he joined the Public Defender Service in Washington, D.C., where for six years he represented both juveniles and adults charged with crimes. During his time as a public defender, he became frustrated with the lack of education and job training opportunities for his clients. He co-founded the Maya Angelou Public Charter School, an alternative school for school dropouts and youth who had previously been arrested. His articles appear in The New York Times, The Atlantic and other publications. He is the author of Locking Up Our Own: Crime and Punishment in Black America. This program concludes our FTR series on Hindutva fascism (Hindu nationalist fascism). In previous programs, we highlighted key features of the governance of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, whose BJP is a political front for the RSS. Formed along the lines of Mussolini’s Blackshirts in 1925, the RSS was the organization that assassinated Mahatma Gandhi. (We have discussed Modi, the RSS and the BJP in numerous broadcasts, including FTR #’s 795, 889, 441, 442, 445, 988 and 989, 990, 991.)
In past discussions of the RSS and BJP, we have noted the following:
1.–Modi’s political fortunes were boosted with support and apparent financing from Pierre Omidyar, who also helped finance the rise of the OUN/B fascist successor organizatios in Ukraine.
2.–Modi and his BJP are viewed with great favor by Breitbart kingpin, former Trump campaign manager and adviser Steve Bannon. A number of Trump’s business associates in India are associated with the BJP.
3.–Bernie Sanders’ prospective Vice-Presidential candidate Tulsi Gabbard helped arrange the details for Modi’s American visit and is networked with the RSS.
4.–The above-mentioned Tulsi Gabbard is a member of the Hare Krishna cult, as is her husband, her in-laws, her parents and her Congressional staff.
5.–Gabbard is highly regarded by Modi admirer Steve Bannon as well.
6.–Gabbard was seriously considered for a cabinet position by Team Trump.
7.–Under Modi, anti-Muslim violence has dramatically accelerated, journalistic and civil free speech has been attenuated, opponents of the government have faced various forms of retaliation and oppression, journalists and activists critical of Modi/BJP/RSS have been murdered, a virulently anti-Muslim cleric has been appointed head of Uttar Pradesh (India’s largest province), voting machines have apparently been tampered with, and Indians have expressed positive feelings about martial law. BJP members have celebrated Gandhi’s murder...

1.–The Omidyar-owned Honololu Civil Beat’s curious cover-up of Tulsi Gabbard’s participation in the Hindutva fascist Hare Krishna cult.
2.–The participation of Indian soldiers in the Wehrmacht and Waffen SS during World War II.
3.–Tulsi Gabbard’s co-sponsorship of a bill that would label opponents of Ukraine’s entrance into the EU as “terrorists.”
4.–Omidyar journalistic protege Glenn Greenwald had Andrew “Weev” Auerenheimer at his party celebrating Greenwald and Laura Poitras’s receipt of the prestigious Polk Award. Weev’s name has been bandied about in connection with the [alleged] hacking of DNC e-mails. We note that Weev is apparently resident in Ukraine. ” . . . . [GOP operative Peter] Smith also reached out to “Guccifer 2.0”—an alias the U.S. intelligence community has linked to Russian state hackers—and was advised to seek the help of a white nationalist hacker who lives in Ukraine. . . . [Alt-Right media figure Charles] Johnson said he also suggested that Smith get in touch with Andrew Auerenheimer, a hacker who goes by the alias ‘Weev’ and has collaborated with Johnson in the past. . . .”

'Confessions of a Nuclear War Planner'
Daniel Ellsberg of Pentagon Papers fame has another revelation to make. In 1961 he consulted for the Department of Defense and the White House and drafted Secretary Robert McNamara's plans for nuclear war.
In 1969 Ellsberg copied the top secret documents along with those pertaining to the war on Vietnam. Ellsberg's attempts to publish the nuclear war papers were stymied by the loss of his copies and the refusal by 17 publishers who told him that nobody was interested in a book about nuclear war. The Doomsday Machine was finally published in December 2017.
Now, in the context of Trump's threats to North Korea, the question of what it means for the rest of the world if one or more of todays super powerful nuclear weapons were to be used is rising to top priority. Convincing evidence shows that even a small nuclear exchange will instantly kill millions and a larger exchange would endanger the rest of the hemisphere by nuclear winter.

12:30-1 Daniel Ellsberg "The Doomsday Machine" Part 2 'Confessions of a Nuclear War Planner'
In 1969 Daniel Ellsberg secretly copied the plans for the United States - Vietnam Relations, 1945-1967, later to be published as the Pentagon Papers. What was not known widely until late 2017 is that Ellsberg also copied the top secret plans for nuclear war that he consulted on for the Department of Defense and drafted for Secretary Robert McNamara.
Some of these papers, along with his first person report of the history of nuclear war planning, have now finally been published to high acclaim. The publication comes at an extraordinarily auspicious and dangerous time as nuclear tensions are mounting and the US president is challenging North Korea.
This program begins with two excerpts from the Nobel Awards in Oslo. ICAN, The International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons, received the 2017 Nobel Peace Prize in recognition of their efforts "to draw attention to the catastrophic humanitarian consequences of any use of nuclear weapons" and their "ground-breaking efforts to achieve a treaty-based prohibition of such weapons".
ICAN is a coalition of non-governmental organizations in 100 countries. They are promoting the implementation of the United Nations Nuclear Weapon Ban Treaty. This landmark global agreement was voted on in New York City on July 7, 2017.
Daniel Ellsberg is currently on tour for his most recent book - The Doomsday Machine. Even though the book is in large measure a memoir Ellsberg is always being asked questions about the nuclear threats of the day, North Korea and President Trump's public announcements about fire, fury and total destruction.
Ellsberg spoke at the Commonwealth Club in San Francisco on December 12, 2017. He was being interviewed by Dr. Gloria Duffy, President and CEO of the Club.
Ellsberg shows that the legacy of this most dangerous arms buildup in the history of civilization-and its proposed renewal under the Trump administration-threatens our very survival. No other insider with high-level access has written so candidly of the nuclear strategy of the late Eisenhower and early Kennedy years, and nothing has fundamentally changed since that era.

KEY POINTS OF INTEREST/ANALYSIS INCLUDE:
1.-Hare Krishna founder and chief guru Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada provided commentary on Hindu religious text ". . . . and often suggested that they had not actually been written by himself, but that God, Krishna, had revealed them to him. . . ." This was in order to " . . . .underline the absolute position, superhuman qualities, and overall importance of the guru. [Basically, "guru" as "fuhrer"-D.E.] . . . ."
2.-Bhaktivedanta Swami was fundamentally opposed to democracy. "So monarchy or dictatorship is welcome. . . . Personally, I like this position, dictatorship. Personally, I like this."
3.-Bhaktivedanta Swami felt that Hinduism was in a "fallen state" and that only his discipline/teachings could restore it to its proper place. In our discussions with Peter Levenda, we have noted that fascism manifests a longing for a bygone time-one that never really existed.
4.-Fascist philosophies frequently invoke a by-gone, mythical "golden age," which the fascist cadre in question will restore, after the corrupting forces have been neutralized. " . . . . He too believed that in bygone ages a divine and scientific social system had existed in India, and like Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati, he too founded a movement whose express mission was to reestablish what he often referred to as the "perfectional form of human civilization," varnashram dharma. . . ." Note that "foreigners" or what would be termed in our society today "immigrants," "migrants," "Mexicans," or "Muslims" are blamed for this degeneration. " . . . . . . . . Indian civilization on the basis of the four varnas and ashrams deteriorated because of her dependency on foreigners, or those who did not follow the civilization of varnasham. . . ."
5.-Bhaktivedanta Swami valued the traditional position of the Kshatriya warrior caste, to which the Nazi SS considered themselves as successors, according to Kevin Coogan's brilliant analysis (in Dreamer of the Day: Francis Parker Yockey and the Postwar Fascist International.) ". . . . the kshatriyas should be taught how to fight also. There will be military training. There will be training how to kill. Kshatriya students in the ISKCON varnashram college were to practice killing: 'Just like Kshatriyas, they have to learn how to kill.' . . . . There is no single instance where Bhaktivedanta Swami speaks about kshatriya training without mentioning killing. . . . 'Learn to kill. No nonviolence. Learn to kill. Here also, as soon you'll find, the Kshatriya, a thief, a rogue, unwanted element in the society, kill him. That's all. Finish. Kill him. Bas. Finished. . . ." It is not that because the Kshatriyas were killing by bows and arrows formerly you have to continue that. That is another foolishness. If you have got . . . If you can kill easily by guns, take that gun. All the royal princes were trained up how to kill. . . . A Kshatriya, he is expert in the military science, how to kill. So the killing art is there. You cannot make it null and void by advocating nonviolence. No, That is required. Violence is also a part of the society. . . ."
6.-Hare Krishna cult member Tulsi Gabbard's political vector may be evaluated against the background of Bhaktivedanta Swami's prognostication that the Hare Krishna cult could infiltrate and take over a key political party and/or government in a democracy. Recall that he viewed democracy with utmost contempt. " . . . . Bhaktivedanta also thought that he and his movement could take over some government and rule some part of the world: 'However in Kali-yuga, democratic government can be captured by Krishna conscious people. If this can be done, the general populace can be made very happy.' . . . ."

'Confessions of a Nuclear War Planner'
Daniel Ellsberg of Pentagon Papers fame has another revelation to make. In 1961 he consulted for the Department of Defense and the White House and drafted Secretary Robert McNamara's plans for nuclear war.
In 1969 Ellsberg copied the top secret documents along with those pertaining to the war on Vietnam. Ellsberg's attempts to publish the nuclear war papers were stymied by the loss of his copies and the refusal by 17 publishers who told him that nobody was interested in a book about nuclear war. The Doomsday Machine was finally published in December 2017.
Now, in the context of Trump's threats to North Korea, the question of what it means for the rest of the world if one or more of todays super powerful nuclear weapons were to be used is rising to top priority. Convincing evidence shows that even a small nuclear exchange will instantly kill millions and a larger exchange would endanger the rest of the hemisphere by nuclear winter.

12:30-1 Daniel Ellsberg "The Doomsday Machine" Part 2 'Confessions of a Nuclear War Planner'
In 1969 Daniel Ellsberg secretly copied the plans for the United States - Vietnam Relations, 1945-1967, later to be published as the Pentagon Papers. What was not known widely until late 2017 is that Ellsberg also copied the top secret plans for nuclear war that he consulted on for the Department of Defense and drafted for Secretary Robert McNamara.
Some of these papers, along with his first person report of the history of nuclear war planning, have now finally been published to high acclaim. The publication comes at an extraordinarily auspicious and dangerous time as nuclear tensions are mounting and the US president is challenging North Korea.
This program begins with two excerpts from the Nobel Awards in Oslo. ICAN, The International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons, received the 2017 Nobel Peace Prize in recognition of their efforts "to draw attention to the catastrophic humanitarian consequences of any use of nuclear weapons" and their "ground-breaking efforts to achieve a treaty-based prohibition of such weapons".
ICAN is a coalition of non-governmental organizations in 100 countries. They are promoting the implementation of the United Nations Nuclear Weapon Ban Treaty. This landmark global agreement was voted on in New York City on July 7, 2017.
Daniel Ellsberg is currently on tour for his most recent book - The Doomsday Machine. Even though the book is in large measure a memoir Ellsberg is always being asked questions about the nuclear threats of the day, North Korea and President Trump's public announcements about fire, fury and total destruction.
Ellsberg spoke at the Commonwealth Club in San Francisco on December 12, 2017. He was being interviewed by Dr. Gloria Duffy, President and CEO of the Club.
Ellsberg shows that the legacy of this most dangerous arms buildup in the history of civilization-and its proposed renewal under the Trump administration-threatens our very survival. No other insider with high-level access has written so candidly of the nuclear strategy of the late Eisenhower and early Kennedy years, and nothing has fundamentally changed since that era.

KEY POINTS OF INTEREST/ANALYSIS INCLUDE:
1.-Hare Krishna founder and chief guru Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada provided commentary on Hindu religious text ". . . . and often suggested that they had not actually been written by himself, but that God, Krishna, had revealed them to him. . . ." This was in order to " . . . .underline the absolute position, superhuman qualities, and overall importance of the guru. [Basically, "guru" as "fuhrer"-D.E.] . . . ."
2.-Bhaktivedanta Swami was fundamentally opposed to democracy. "So monarchy or dictatorship is welcome. . . . Personally, I like this position, dictatorship. Personally, I like this."
3.-Bhaktivedanta Swami felt that Hinduism was in a "fallen state" and that only his discipline/teachings could restore it to its proper place. In our discussions with Peter Levenda, we have noted that fascism manifests a longing for a bygone time-one that never really existed.
4.-Fascist philosophies frequently invoke a by-gone, mythical "golden age," which the fascist cadre in question will restore, after the corrupting forces have been neutralized. " . . . . He too believed that in bygone ages a divine and scientific social system had existed in India, and like Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati, he too founded a movement whose express mission was to reestablish what he often referred to as the "perfectional form of human civilization," varnashram dharma. . . ." Note that "foreigners" or what would be termed in our society today "immigrants," "migrants," "Mexicans," or "Muslims" are blamed for this degeneration. " . . . . . . . . Indian civilization on the basis of the four varnas and ashrams deteriorated because of her dependency on foreigners, or those who did not follow the civilization of varnasham. . . ."
5.-Bhaktivedanta Swami valued the traditional position of the Kshatriya warrior caste, to which the Nazi SS considered themselves as successors, according to Kevin Coogan's brilliant analysis (in Dreamer of the Day: Francis Parker Yockey and the Postwar Fascist International.) ". . . . the kshatriyas should be taught how to fight also. There will be military training. There will be training how to kill. Kshatriya students in the ISKCON varnashram college were to practice killing: 'Just like Kshatriyas, they have to learn how to kill.' . . . . There is no single instance where Bhaktivedanta Swami speaks about kshatriya training without mentioning killing. . . . 'Learn to kill. No nonviolence. Learn to kill. Here also, as soon you'll find, the Kshatriya, a thief, a rogue, unwanted element in the society, kill him. That's all. Finish. Kill him. Bas. Finished. . . ." It is not that because the Kshatriyas were killing by bows and arrows formerly you have to continue that. That is another foolishness. If you have got . . . If you can kill easily by guns, take that gun. All the royal princes were trained up how to kill. . . . A Kshatriya, he is expert in the military science, how to kill. So the killing art is there. You cannot make it null and void by advocating nonviolence. No, That is required. Violence is also a part of the society. . . ."
6.-Hare Krishna cult member Tulsi Gabbard's political vector may be evaluated against the background of Bhaktivedanta Swami's prognostication that the Hare Krishna cult could infiltrate and take over a key political party and/or government in a democracy. Recall that he viewed democracy with utmost contempt. " . . . . Bhaktivedanta also thought that he and his movement could take over some government and rule some part of the world: 'However in Kali-yuga, democratic government can be captured by Krishna conscious people. If this can be done, the general populace can be made very happy.' . . . ."

And then Brian Carome, executive director of Street Sense Media, tells us how his organization is helping the homeless in the Washington DC area.
Dr. Michael Osterholm is a professor and director of the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy at the University of Minnesota. He is the author of the 2017 book, “Deadliest Enemy: Our War Against Killer Germs” in which he not only details the most pressing infectious disease threats of our day but lays out a nine-point strategy on how to address them, with preventing a global flu pandemic at the top of the list. His recent op-ed in the New York Times is entitled “We’re not Ready For a Flu Pandemic.”
“I have raised from the beginning on the public health budget: this is about national security. Whether a bomb comes lands somewhere in our country or bullets kill our troops or land mines, you know, infectious agents are much more efficient at it and can do it overnight. And we see that. And in a sense this is about national security… We need a moonshot approach on this flu vaccine, because again, the cost of even one pandemic will be so substantial any investment we make on this will be pennies on the dollar in savings.” Dr. Michael Osterholm, director of the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy at the University of Minnesota.
Brian Carome is the executive director of Street Sense, whose mission it is to end homelessness in Washington DC by providing jobs, training and other services to the area’s homeless population. Previously he served as Executive Director at Housing Opportunities for Women, Project Northstar and A-SPAN. Additionally, he worked at New Hope Housing, Sasha Bruce Youthwork, the Washington Legal Clinic for the Homeless, and the Father McKenna Center.
“We kind of have a two-fold mission. One is we provide both opportunities for employment and income earning opportunities to men and women, who at some point in their life have experienced homelessness. We also provide them with platforms for self-expression, which I think many of us just take for granted. But these are folks who are far too often left out of the conversation when it comes to public policy in our country. He is the author of the 2017 book, “Deadliest Enemy: Our War Against Killer Germs” in which he not only details the most pressing infectious disease threats of our day but lays out a nine-point strategy on how to address them, with preventing a global flu pandemic at the top of the list. His recent op-ed in the New York Times is entitled “We’re not Ready For a Flu Pandemic.”
“I have raised from the beginning on the public health budget: this is about national security. Whether a bomb comes lands somewhere in our country or bullets kill our troops or land mines, you know, infectious agents are much more efficient at it and can do it overnight. And we see that. And in a sense this is about national security… We need a moonshot approach on this flu vaccine, because again, the cost of even one pandemic will be so substantial any investment we make on this will be pennies on the dollar in savings.” Dr. Michael Osterholm, director of the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy at the University of Minnesota.
Brian Carome is the executive director of Street Sense, whose mission it is to end homelessness in Washington DC by providing jobs, training and other services to the area’s homeless population. Previously he served as Executive Director at Housing Opportunities for Women, Project Northstar and A-SPAN. Additionally, he worked at New Hope Housing, Sasha Bruce Youthwork, the Washington Legal Clinic for the Homeless, and the Father McKenna Center.

The disturbing facts concerning Mahatma Gandhi's assassination at the hands of the RSS and its ideological leader V.D. Savarkar was related by James Douglass in "Gandhi and the Unspeakable". (Douglass is also the author of JFK and the Unspeakable: Why He Died and Why It Matters--a book we have used on numerous occasions.)
In this program we set forth key features of the assassination of Gandhi including:
1.-The Hindutva (Hindu nationalist) fascist ideology of the RSS, the organization inspired by, and presided over, by V.D.Savarkar,which--along with its ideological leader--were deeply involved with Gandhi's murder.
2.-The RSS's organizational and ideological affinity with Mussolini's Blackshirts.
3.-The organization's (and Savarkar's) cooperation with the British, whom Savarkar saw as potential partners in an "Aryan Empire."
4.-The close relationship between the RSS and the Hindu Mahasabha, a paramilitary organization that participated in the British colonial military during World War II and subsequently assumed prominence in the fledgling Indian national security establishment.
5.-The laxity of Indian police officials in pursuing an investigation into Gandhi's killers following an earlier attempt at slaying the Mahatma.
6.-The apparent sympathy of complicit Indian security officials, many of whom had affinity with the RSS and Hindu Mahasabha.
7.-The apparent complicity of Indian Prime Minister Nehru and Home Minister Patel in the killings--failing to enact basic, formalized security procedures that would have protected Gandhi.
8.-The complicity of the Indian court trying Gandhi's killers in obscuring the fundamental participation of Savarkar in the assassination conspiracy.
9.-The court's acquiescence in allowing Gandhi's self-confessed assassin Nathuram Godse (Savarkar's personal secretary) to read a nine-hour condemnation of Gandhi and implicit defense of the Mahatma's murder.
10.-The subsequent rehabilitation of Savarkar's political reputation after the BJP (a political cat's paw for the RSS) assumed power in India.
11.-The Orwellian re-write of Indian text books to omit any reference to the Hindutva fascist role in Gandhi's killing.

Corporations are riding high in the saddle. With their friends in Washington they are raking it in. That certainly is the case with the tax law passed by Congress in late 2017. If you look at the details it is warmed over trickle-down economics. While most workers will get crumbs, the big winners will be corporations. And along the way, the deficit will go way up. Corporate tax contributions to the federal budget has been declining for decades and this bill will make it worse. The right-wing plan seems clear: Cut taxes on corporations and then reduce and eliminate programs like Social Security, food stamps, Medicare and Medicaid because there is no money. As the saying goes, the rich have gotten richer and the poor poorer. Inequality has soared into the stratosphere. To bring it down we need a concerted grassroots movement.
Richard Wolff is Professor of Economics Emeritus at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst and currently a visiting professor at the New School in New York. The New York Times calls him “America’s most prominent Marxist economist.” He is the author of numerous books including 'Democracy at Work' and 'Occupy the Economy' with David Barsamian.

Since 2006, Daniel Sheehan has served as the lead attorney and general counsel for the Lakota People’s Law Project (LPLP). Much of LPLP's work has been in South Dakota to stop violations of the Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA) and rescue Lakota children from an abusive state care system.
In 2016, LPLP began organizing around the Dakota Access Pipeline. Our Lakota staff were on the ground at Oceti Sakowin camp from its inception in April 2016 to the final days in February, 2017. Daniel is now heading a legal team representing Chase Iron Eyes and others facing felony charges related to the #NoDAPL movement. 'The Peoples Advocate,' the autobiography of American Constitutional Trial Attorney Daniel Sheehan, is now available through our online store! Sheehan traces his personal journey from his working-class roots through Harvard Law School and his initial career in private practice. His early disenchantment led to his return for further study at Harvard Divinity School, and rethinking the nature of his career. Eventually his role as President and Chief Trial Counselor for the famous Washington, DC-based Christic Institute would help define his role as America's preeminent cause lawyer.
In The Peoples Advocate, Sheehan details “the inside story” of over a dozen historically significant American legal cases of the 20th Century, all of which he litigated. The remarkable cases covered in the book include both The Pentagon Papers Case in 1971 and The Watergate Burglary Case in 1973. In addition, Sheehan served as the Chief Attorney on The Karen Silkwood Case in 1976, which revealed the CIA's Israeli Desk had been smuggling 98% bomb-grade plutonium to the State of Israel and to Iran. In 1984, he was the Chief Trial Counsel on The American Sanctuary Movement Case, establishing the right of American church workers to provide assistance to Central American political refugees fleeing Guatemalan and Salvadorian “death squads.” His involvement with the sanctuary movement ultimately led to Sheehan's famous Iran/Contra Federal Civil Racketeering Case against the Reagan/Bush Administration, which he investigated, initiated, filed, and then litigated. The resulting “Iran/Contra Scandal” nearly brought down that Administration, leading Congress to consider the impeachment of over a dozen of the top-ranking officials of the Reagan/Bush Administration.

In the annals of nuclear accidents Fukushima has a special place. In Chernobyl the government opted to remove the 116,000 people living around the power plant. In Fukushima there is an ongoing effort to remove the contamination and to bring the 154,000 evacuees back. The Japanese government claims the effort is successful – independent researchers have serious doubts.
Admittedly the cleanup so far reached only 5 percent of Fukushima province and the only published data on the status of radioactive substances come from independent researchers. They find that contamination returned to cleaned up areas via wind, rain and traffic.
Norma Field is an author and professor emeritus of East Asian studies at the University of Chicago. She has taught Premodern Japanese Poetry and Prose, and Gender Studies. She is a frequent visitor to Japan where she was born in 1947.

On December 2, 2017 the University of Chicago celebrated the 75th anniversary of the first nuclear chain reaction that led to the building of the atomic bomb and the nuclear power industry. The physicist Leo Szilard said at the time that by his and Enrico Fermi’s invention universal death had come into the world. Today critics of the 2017 anniversary say that the lectures and events were biased in favor of nuclear weapons and nuclear power and even insulting to radiation victims as they culminated in fireworks in the shape of a mushroom cloud. The Nuclear Energy Information Service, NEIS, called attention to the plight of people who suffer the consequences of radiation. Dave Kraft of NEIS introduces the first speaker, Fairewinds Energy Education’s Arnie Gundersen.
Gundersen talks about his trips to Japan to collect dirt samples following the nuclear reactor explosions at Fukushima and his work with Japanese citizens who learn to collect and analyze samples. Gundersen finds to this day serious contamination up to 300 miles from Fukushima – even in areas that have been declared safe to live. He describes the terrible social pressure placed on mothers to return, with their children, to communities contaminated with radioactive particles.
He speaks of doctors under order from the Japanese government to diagnose the common effects of radiation as caused by stress. And he reveals that the NRC knew about the scale of the radiological contamination days after the meltdowns, describing the whole province of Fukushima as a contaminated zone. He also reveals that a stadium inside Fukushima province will be hosting the baseball competitions at the 2020 Olympics.

In past discussions of the RSS and BJP, we have noted the following:
1.-Modi’s political fortunes were boosted with support and apparent financing from Pierre Omidyar, who also helped finance the rise of the OUN/B fascists in Ukraine.
2.-Modi and his BJP are viewed with great favor by Breitbart kingpin, former Trump campaign manager and adviser Steve Bannon. A number of Trump’s business associates in India are associated with the BJP.
3.-Bernie Sanders’ prospective Vice-Presidential candidate Tulsi Gabbard helped arrange the details for Modi’s American visit and is networked with the RSS.
4.-Under Modi, anti-Muslim violence has dramatically accelerated, while free speech has been attenuated. BJP members have celebrated Gandhi’s murder.
An entity patterned after Mussolini’s Blackshirts, the RSS was the organization that spawned the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi.
Fascist organizations generally demonize a “malevolent other,” in the case of the RSS, it was India’s large Muslim population. (Before gaining independence, India and the modern nations of Pakistan and Bangladesh were part of one large British colony.
The disturbing facts concerning Mahatma Gandhi’s assassination at the hands of the RSS and its ideological leader V.D. Savarkar was related by James Douglass in “Gandhi and the Unspeakable”. (Douglass is also the author of JFK and the Unspeakable: Why He Died and Why It Matters–a book we have used on numerous occasions.)

The self-styled deal maker is a deal breaker when it comes to the historic agreement limiting Iranian uranium enrichment in return for the lifting of sanctions. Trump refused to certify Iranian compliance and passed the ball to Congress which now must decide. But the UN monitoring agency has determined that Tehran is adhering to the conditions agreed to. Does the U.S. have evidence indicating otherwise? Why is Trump now abrogating the deal and insulting Iran as “a rogue state.” Iran, once in Washington’s hip pocket under the Shah, broke away with its 1979 Islamic Revolution. The U.S. has been hostile ever since. If the deal collapses why would any country, say North Korea, enter into an agreement with Washington? It changes what has been negotiated post-facto. In this case, the old saw applies, If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

Since 2006, Daniel Sheehan has served as the lead attorney and general counsel for the Lakota People’s Law Project (LPLP). Much of LPLP's work has been in South Dakota to stop violations of the Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA) and rescue Lakota children from an abusive state care system.
In 2016, LPLP began organizing around the Dakota Access Pipeline. Our Lakota staff were on the ground at Oceti Sakowin camp from its inception in April 2016 to the final days in February, 2017. Daniel is now heading a legal team representing Chase Iron Eyes and others facing felony charges related to the #NoDAPL movement. 'The Peoples Advocate,' the autobiography of American Constitutional Trial Attorney Daniel Sheehan, is now available through our online store! Sheehan traces his personal journey from his working-class roots through Harvard Law School and his initial career in private practice. His early disenchantment led to his return for further study at Harvard Divinity School, and rethinking the nature of his career. Eventually his role as President and Chief Trial Counselor for the famous Washington, DC-based Christic Institute would help define his role as America's preeminent cause lawyer.
In The Peoples Advocate, Sheehan details “the inside story” of over a dozen historically significant American legal cases of the 20th Century, all of which he litigated. The remarkable cases covered in the book include both The Pentagon Papers Case in 1971 and The Watergate Burglary Case in 1973. In addition, Sheehan served as the Chief Attorney on The Karen Silkwood Case in 1976, which revealed the CIA's Israeli Desk had been smuggling 98% bomb-grade plutonium to the State of Israel and to Iran. In 1984, he was the Chief Trial Counsel on The American Sanctuary Movement Case, establishing the right of American church workers to provide assistance to Central American political refugees fleeing Guatemalan and Salvadorian “death squads.” His involvement with the sanctuary movement ultimately led to Sheehan's famous Iran/Contra Federal Civil Racketeering Case against the Reagan/Bush Administration, which he investigated, initiated, filed, and then litigated. The resulting “Iran/Contra Scandal” nearly brought down that Administration, leading Congress to consider the impeachment of over a dozen of the top-ranking officials of the Reagan/Bush Administration.

The self-styled deal maker is a deal breaker when it comes to the historic agreement limiting Iranian uranium enrichment in return for the lifting of sanctions. Trump refused to certify Iranian compliance and passed the ball to Congress which now must decide. But the UN monitoring agency has determined that Tehran is adhering to the conditions agreed to. Does the U.S. have evidence indicating otherwise? Why is Trump now abrogating the deal and insulting Iran as “a rogue state.” Iran, once in Washington’s hip pocket under the Shah, broke away with its 1979 Islamic Revolution. The U.S. has been hostile ever since. If the deal collapses why would any country, say North Korea, enter into an agreement with Washington? It changes what has been negotiated post-facto. In this case, the old saw applies, If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

Science Fiction Legend Philip K. Dick (poor sound quality)
This interview was conducted from Philip K. Dick s Southern California home in 1976 at a time when Science Fiction was considered by Publishers the lowest form of Literature.
Today, with the success of such Science Fiction franchises as Star Trek, Star Wars and others, it s hard to imagine a time when the Best Science Fiction writer in the field would struggle to have his novel published.
Since Philip K. Dick s death in 1982, fourteen of his novels and short stories have been made into films including Harrison Ford in Blade Runner, Arnold Schwarzenegger in Total Recall (remade with Colin Farrell), Tom Cruise in Minority Report and Matt Damen in the Adjustment Bureau.
His 1953 short story King of the Elves slated for a 2016 release.
Not surprisingly this very interview is in the special features section on the DVD of Philip's A Scanner Darkly starring Keanu Reeves.
You are in for a treat today. This conversation between Mike Hodel and Philip K. Dick is a real insider's peak into the mind of a great visionary, who battled for decades to get his ideas out to the world.

A new film on the history of organic agriculture told by those who built the movement
After WWII industrial, chemical agriculture almost erased the memory of farming and gardening as practiced for millennia. Even before the 1960s back to the land movement put out a flamboyant reminder for safe foodfree from oil based fertilizers and insecticides individual, unknown farmers and organizations preserved the ancient heritage.
Director and writer Mark Kitchell, best known for his movies: 'Berkeley in the Sixties' and his environmental film 'A Fierce Green Fire' decided to document the many sources for the Evolution of Organic. The film is going into distribution in early 2018.
Kitchell’s goal was to cover the range of practices and ideals that inspired the resistance to chemical agriculture, from Alan Chadwick to Rachel Carson to Rudolf Steiner’s Biodynamic philosophy. And the film eventually brings the history forward to today where organics in some ways reached their own production and distribution of scale, while other small scale farmers protect their specialties and local neighbor to neighbor support systems.
The film is 86 minutes long and this program presents ca 25 minutes of intriguing clips across generations. The narrator is Frances Mc Dormand.

Community screening of the film by Mark Kitchell – In November 2017 Mark Kitchell brought his new documentary film, Evolution of Organic, to the Willits Little Lake Grange in Northern California. It’s a new film on the history of organic agriculture told by those who built the movement. Willits and the surrounding county of Mendocino have a rich tradition of organics and everybody in the audience was either a happy consumer of local food or a farmer/gardener themselves.
Gloria and Stephen Decater and Ruthie King are among those local farmer/gardeners and in addition they were important participants in the movie, Evolution of Organic. The Decaters began as students of Alan Chadwick’s in Santa Cruz, and founded in 1973 the Live Power Community Farm in Round Valley in Mendocino County.
It is a 50-acre, solar electric and horse-powered, certified biodynamic farm. Four acres are devoted to an intensive vegetable garden. The rest of the farm is used to grow home orchard fruits and field and forage crops for hay, grain, and pasture. Animals on the Live Power Community Farm include draft horses, dairy and beef cows, feeder pigs, sheep, and laying hens.
Ruthie King is Director of Operations and Livestock Manager at the Grange Farm School on Ridgewood Ranch – where she lives. She is also the Representative of the Mendocino Farmer’s Guild and Overseer of the Little Lake Grange.
After the screening of the film they came forward to comment and answer questions. Curiously this particular audience asked many questions about two founding personalities of the organic movement and the Philosophy behind it who were no longer alive when the film was made: Alan Chadwick and Rudolf Steiner.
Alan Chadwick was an English master gardener, and a leading innovator of organic farming techniques based on Biodynamic and French Intensive gardening practice. He was a student of Rudolf Steiner’s. Steiner, who died in March 1925 was an Austrian philosopher, social reformer, architect and agriculturalist. He founded a number of schools, the first of which was known as the Waldorf school, which later evolved into a worldwide school network. He also founded a system of organic agriculture, now known as biodynamic agriculture, which was one of the very first forms of modern organic farming.
The film: Evolution of Organic by Mark Kitchell is going into distribution in early 2018. Kitchell also introduced the writer Kim Bancroft who used transcripts of the many practitioners of organics. She edited them into essays, preserving material that was impossible to fit into the 86 minute film.

Continuing our long-running analysis of the realization of the Nazi methodology expressed in “Serpent’s Walk,” we further develop Breitbart’s achievements in that regard, as well as underscoring how YouTube has evolved in that same manner.
The back cover of “Serpent’s Walk” sums up the essence of the tome: ” . . . It assumes that Hitler’s warrior elite – the SS – didn’t give up their struggle for a White World when they lost the Second World War. Instead their survivors went underground and adopted some of the tactics of their enemies: they began building their economic muscle and buying into the opinion-forming media. A century after the war they are ready to challenge the democrats and Jews for the hearts and minds of White Americans, who have begun to have their fill of government-enforced multi-culturalism and ‘equality.’ . . .”
Key to the success achieved by both Breitbart and YouTube “alt-right” personalities is networking. At Breitbart, the skillful, adroit Milo Yiannopoulos served as a point person for a coterie of white supremacists and anti-Semites while couching the views they espouse in a careful, rhetorically ambiguous manner deflective of overt criticism. At YouTube, regular personalities with their own shows and content host other, more overtly extremist guests and channel viewers to the more extreme sites through that exposure.
BuzzFeed has a long piece based on a cache of leaked emails that describe behind-the-scenes efforts at Breitbart to mainstream the “Alt Right” neo-Nazis. This story firms up analysis of Breitbart as a white nationalist publication run by neo-Nazis for the purpose of mainstreaming neo-Nazi ideals.
Those efforts primarily revolved around Milo Yiannopoulos, who is:
Tasked with reaching out to “Alt Right” figures.
Getting comments from them about what the “Alt Right” was all about.
Then, later getting feedback from them about the planned articles before they were published.
It was clearly a group effort. Those efforts included Andrew ‘the weev’ Auernheimer, Curtis Yarvin (the founder of the “Dark Enlightenment” movement), and Devin Saucier, a neo-Nazi Yiannopoulos describes as his best friend.
Of primary interest here is the cunning exercised by Yiannopoulos, Bannon et al in parsing just what they can get away with doing and what they must avoid. Auerenheimer, for example, was excluded a Yiannopoulos podcast after being vetted by Breitbart managment.
The emails included back and forths between Yiannopoulos and Breitbart editors about whether or not the publication was getting too openly friendly with the Nazis, with Yiannopoulos being told at one point that it was fine to use a “shekels” joke but “you can’t even flirt with OKing gas chamber tweets.”
Other points of information include: Curtis Yarvin’s statement that he was “coaching” Peter Thiel on politics; How the two Yiannopoulos passwords found in the emails were “a password that began with the word Kristall”, and “LongKnives1290,” references to Kristallnacht and the Night of the Long Knives;”
Noteworthy, also, is the financial power of the Mercer interests, who have successfully rattled legal sabers against media outlets who have tarred Yiannopoulos with the racist brush.
Alt-right YouTube hosts also employ networking, inviting ideologically extreme guests to participate on their programs, presenting views more inflammatory than those normally aired on the netcasts. The extremist guests then receive a significant bump-up in traffic from their appearances.

We live in an era of fake news. Fabricated reports go viral on social media. Totally false stories are concocted then tweeted and retweeted. Fantastical theories and wild claims are circulated in cyberspace. It's as Orwell says in 1984, "The lie became truth." There is a lot of fire and fury inflaming the news cycle. The term fake news is an all-purpose smear, used by the president and his supporters to deride and dismiss reporting they don’t like. A recent study found that Facebook was by far the platform through which people used to get to a fake news site. The report also noted that older, less educated people were particularly susceptible to fake news. Are facts up for grabs? How are we to navigate the mine laden waters of propaganda and fake news?
