In its July 19th issue, the New York Times Magazine published a brilliant piece of twisted pseudo-scientific propaganda. The essay, entitled “Learning to Love GMOs,” is truly stunning. Its author, journalist Jennifer Kahn, takes readers who would have little to no understanding of genetic engineering and genetically modified organisms (GMO) through a fictional labyrinth of out-dated and conflated GMO similitudes to an end point where readers might believe GMOs are really cool and there is nothing to be frantically worried about.

(Genetically modified soy beans are the reason the Amazon was cleared to the extent that it now emits more carbon dioxide than it used to be capturing in its root systems). Gary’s film on GMOs from some years ago, “Seeds of Death.”

Last December, she and three other attorneys filed a case against New Mexico’s governor and state public health officials on the handling of Covid pandemic. She is also a member of a legal team representing America’s Frontline Doctors in a lawsuit filed in Alabama against the US Department of Health and Human Services for grossly misreporting and misrepresenting the number of deaths from deaths following vaccination with the Covid vaccines. FTR#1188 The Oswald Institute of Virology, Part 7: Covid-19 and The American Deep State

This program continues our series analyzing the Wuhan Institute of Virology as having been set up to take the fall for the Covid-19 pandemic, which–in our considered opinion–is a covert operation by the U.S. as part of the full-court press against China.

As the “Lab Leak Hypothesis” of the pandemic’s origins moves toward becoming a mainstreamed propaganda theme, we note that:

1.–Anthony Fauci himself set forth the “lab leak” scenario in his 2012 endorsement of a moratorium on gain-of-function manipulations, setting the intellectual stage for the “gaming” of just such a scenario. In FTR#1187, we noted that Fauci’s NIH NIAID was among the institutions that presided over EcoHealth Alliance’s funding of experimentation on bat-borne coronaviruses at the Wuhan Institute of Virology. ” . . . . In 2012, Dr. Anthony Fauci, who leads NIH’s National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, came out in support of a moratorium on such research, posing a hypothetical scenario involving a poorly trained scientist in a poorly regulated lab: ‘In an unlikely but conceivable turn of events, what if that scientist becomes infected with the virus, which leads to an outbreak and ultimately triggers a pandemic?’ Fauci wrote. . . .”

2.–USAID’s PREDICT project trained many of the scientists at the WIV. From the standpoint of covert operations, this would afford the opportunity to place one or more operatives inside that apparently targeted institution: [USAID is a State Department subsidiary that is one of the largest funders of the EcoHealth Alliance and a frequent cover for CIA activity.] ” . . . . . . . . Many of the scientists at the Wuhan Institute of Virology have been trained by the U.S. government’s PREDICT project. . . .”

3.–The journalistic generation of the lab-leak theory comes, in part, from Michael R. Gordon, who has a history of generating dubious journalism to support the plans of the national security establishment. Gordon: ” . . . . was the same man who, along with Judith Miller, wrote the September 8, 2002 article falsely asserting that Iraqi President Saddam Hussein was seeking to build a nuclear weapon. . . The claim was a lie, funneled to the Times by the office of US Vice President Dick Cheney. . . On May 26, 2004, the Times published a letter from its editors entitled ‘FROM THE EDITORS; The Times and Iraq,’ ‘acknowledging that the Times repeatedly ‘fell for misinformation.’ . . . The letter notes: ‘But we have found a number of instances of coverage that was not as rigorous as it should have been... On Sept. 8, 2002, the lead article of the paper was headlined ‘U.S. Says Hussein Intensified Quest for A‑Bomb Parts.’ That report concerned the aluminum tubes that the administration advertised insistently as components for the manufacture of nuclear weapons fuel. … it should have been presented more cautiously . . . .”

4.–Gordon: ” . . . . On April 20, 2014 . . . co-authored an article entitled ‘Photos Link Masked Men in East Ukraine to Russia,’ which claimed to identify masked men operating in eastern Ukraine in opposition to the US-backed coup regime as active-duty Russian soldiers. . . .Four days later, the Times Public Editor was again compelled to retract the claims in Gordon’s reporting, calling them ‘discredited.’ . . .”

5.–New York Times right-wing columnist Ross Douthat has highlighted the propaganda significance of pinning the “Lab Leak Theory” on China: ” . . . . to the extent that the United States is engaged in a conflict of propaganda and soft power with the regime in Beijing, there’s a pretty big difference between a world where the Chinese regime can say, We weren’t responsible for Covid but we crushed the virus and the West did not, because we’re strong and they’re decadent, and a world where this was basically their Chernobyl except their incompetence and cover-up sickened not just one of their own cities but also the entire globe. . . .”

6.–Pompeo State Department officials pursuing the lab-leak hypothesis were told to cover it up lest it shed light on U.S. government funding of research at the “Oswald Institute of Virology!”: ” . . . . In one State Department meeting, officials seeking to demand transparency from the Chinese government say they were explicitly told by colleagues not to explore the Wuhan Institute of Virology’s gain-of-function research, because it would bring unwelcome attention to U.S. government funding of it. . . . .In an internal memo obtained by Vanity Fair, Thomas DiNanno, former acting assistant secretary of the State Department’s Bureau of Arms Control, Verification, and Compliance, wrote that. . . staff from two bureaus . . . “warned” leaders within his bureau ‘not to pursue an investigation into the origin of COVID-19’ because it would ‘open a can of worms’ if it continued.’ . . . . As the group probed the lab-leak scenario, among other possibilities, its members were repeatedly advised not to open a ‘Pandora’s box,’ said four former State Department officials interviewed by Vanity Fair. . . .”

7.–Setting the orthodoxy in early 2020 with a Lancet article ruling out a laboratory origin for the virus was Peter Daszak, with approval from Ralph Baric: ” . . . . It soon emerged, based on emails obtained by a Freedom of Information group called U.S. Right to Know, that Daszak had not only signed but organized the influential Lancet statement, with the intention of concealing his role and creating the impression of scientific unanimity. . . .”

8.–” . . . . In late March, former Centers for Disease Control director Robert Redfield received death threats from fellow scientists after telling CNN that he believed COVID-19 had originated in a lab. . . . ”

BEHIND THE SCENES

Too many things are happening at the same time - between doing the program guide and having a fundraiser with a skeleton staff and fighting the national board on the actual results of the ‘referendum’ (see www.newdaypacifica.org ) (documented in last week’s program guide) and the vote on new board candidates I’m not able to keep up and do the program schedule which I am working on. The results of the election are seen different ways by the voters and the board so it looks like we’re going to court which means time and expense will be further lost - the problem which New Day has been trying to solve by having some expertise injected into the board majorities.  

Jack Gariss used to say that Pacifica mirrors the national government. These turn out to be words of wisdom as the solutions to Pacifica’s difficulty rest on the hope to defeat the “Trump won” types and their operators

The 50th anniversary of the Pentagon Papers has brought attention once more to Daniel Ellsberg. His action in 1971 in releasing the Pentagon Papers blew the lid off of Washington’s mountain of lies and deceptions about Vietnam and ultimately led to Watergate and Nixon’s resignation. In this never before broadcast program we go back into history as Ellsberg describes the origins of the Vietnam War. He traces early U.S. support for the French effort to retain control of its Indochina colony. He talks about U.S. nuclear weapons policy including threats against the Soviet Union as well as Eisenhower’s offer of nukes to the French to stave off defeat at Dien Bien Phu in 1954. The U.S. later totally supplanted the French and expanded the war to Laos and Cambodia. Ellsberg looks at the policy of supporting Diem’s Saigon regime, first by Kennedy then Johnson.

Daniel Ellsberg was a company commander in the Marine Corps. In 1959 he joined the RAND Corporation as an analyst. In 1964 he was recruited to serve in the Pentagon under Robert McNamara. He precipitated a national political crisis when he released the Pentagon Papers, a top-secret study about Vietnam. He is the author of Secrets and The Doomsday Machine: Confessions of a Nuclear War Planner. He is the recipient of the Right Livelihood Award and the Olof Palme prize for his “profound humanism and exceptional moral courage.” At 90, Ellsberg is still active and speaking out in support of other whistleblowers such as Edward Snowden, Julian Assange and Chelsea Manning.

Super Bowl Champ Tells RFK, Jr.: 6 Months After Moderna Vaccine, Wife’s Injury ‘Progressively Worse’

Green Bay Packers hall-of-famer Ken Ruettgers told RFK, Jr. on “The Defender Podcast” he started a website where people can share their stories of COVID vaccine injuries after his wife suffered a “severe reaction” to the Moderna vaccine.




Green Bay Packer hall-of-famer and Super Bowl champion Ken Ruettgers said his wife suffered a “severe reaction” to the Moderna COVID vaccine — and when she connected with other vaccine-injured people on Facebook, the private groups were shut down.

In an interview with Children’s Health Defense Chairman Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. on the “RFK Jr. The Defender Podcast,” Ruettgers said within 48 hours of being vaccinated, his wife Sheryl experienced swollen lymph nodes and a numbness and tingling sensation that progressed from her face all the way down to her legs.

It’s been six months since she received the shot, said Ruettgers, and the sensations of tingling and numbness have grown “progressively worse.”

Searching for answers, Ruettgers said Sheryl connected with a group of doctors and nurses on Facebook who shared similar concerns about COVID vaccines.

In May, they wrote a letter to Dr. Janet Woodcock, acting commissioner of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, and Dr. Rochelle Walensky, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. They introduced themselves as an “ever growing group of Americans who were previously healthy and have been seriously injured by COVID vaccines.”

The letter said:

“We deserve and strongly request transparency and acknowledgment of these vaccine reactions so that there can be a beginning to the discoveries and developments in the care that we desperately need. Until acknowledgement of these adverse reactions exists, it will be impossible for people to receive care. We are pleading that you make the medical community aware of these reactions so we can get the medical care that we need and hopefully recover and return to our previously healthy lives.”

They never received a response. Ruettgers said that’s why they launched C19 Vax Reactions, a website where people hurt by COVID vaccines could share their stories. https://www.c19vaxreactions.com

In this program, we present more discussion of the background and context to Pentagon and USAID funding for research into bat-borne coronaviruses through EcoHealth Alliance, in and around China.

Exemplifying the offensive military posture in which the funding of coronavirus research has occurred is a quote from an otherwise bellicose Reuters story about U.S. withdrawal from the intermediate-range missile treaty so that America can build up forces to counter China. ” . . . . In a series last year, Reuters reported that while the U.S. was distracted by almost two decades of war in the Middle East and Afghanistan, the PLA had built a missile force designed to attack the aircraft carriers, other surface warships and network of bases that form the backbone of American power in Asia. Over that period, Chinese shipyards built the world’s biggest navy, which is now capable of dominating the country’s coastal waters and keeping U.S. forces at bay. . . .”

Imagine, for a moment China building up its long-range missile forces in the Western Pacific to neutralize the U.S. Navy’s ability to dominate America’s coastal waters and keep an enemy at bay.

This is a defensive gambit by China–America would respond with justifiable outrage if China (or any other nation) would challenge America’s ability to dominate its coastal waters and keep an enemy at bay.

The Pentagon funding for these projects must be seen against the background of three overlapping areas of consideration:

1.–The fact that any virus can be synthesized or modified from scratch. As detailed in a very important article from The Guardian: “ . . . Advances in the area mean that scientists now have the capability to recreate dangerous viruses from scratch; make harmful bacteria more deadly; and modify common microbes so that they churn out lethal toxins once they enter the body. . . In the report, the scientists describe how synthetic biology, which gives researchers precision tools to manipulate living organisms, ‘enhances and expands’ opportunities to create bioweapons. . . . Today, the genetic code of almost any mammalian virus can be found online and synthesised. ‘The technology to do this is available now,’ said [Michael] “It requires some expertise, but it’s something that’s relatively easy to do, and that is why it tops the list. . . .”

2.–Also fundamental to an understanding of the Covid “op” is the devastating nature of bat-borne viruses when introduced into the human body. “ . . . . As Boston University microbiologist Thomas Kepler explained to the Washington Post in 2018, the bat’s unique approach to viral infection explains why viruses that transfer from bats to humans are so severe. . . . ‘A virus that has co-evolved with the bat’s antiviral system is completely out of its element in the human,’ Kepler said. ‘That’s why it is so deadly — the human immune system is overwhelmed by the inflammatory response.’ The bat immune system responds very differently from ours to viral infection. Instead of attacking and killing an infected cell, which leads to a cascade of inflammatory responses, the bat immune system can starve the virus by turning down cellular metabolism. The bat origin of SARS-CoV‑2 may explain the cytokine storms that are hastening some COVID-19 deaths. . . .”

3.–Analysis presented in the liberal New York Magazine by Nicholson Baker takes stock of the implications of contemporary biotechnology and what we have termed (in past broadcasts) “The Magic Virus Theory.” “. . . . SARS‑2 seems almost perfectly calibrated to grab and ransack our breathing cells and choke the life out of them. . . . Perhaps viral nature hit a bull’s‑eye of airborne infectivity, with almost no mutational drift, no period of accommodation and adjustment, or perhaps some lab worker somewhere, inspired by Baric’s work with human airway tissue, took a spike protein that was specially groomed to colonize and thrive deep in the ciliated, mucosal tunnels of our inner core and cloned it onto some existing viral bat backbone. It could have happened in Wuhan, but — because anyone can now ‘print out’ a fully infectious clone of any sequenced disease — it could also have happened at Fort Detrick, or in Texas, or in Italy, or in Rotterdam, or in Wisconsin, or in some other citadel of coronaviral inquiry.. . .”

The venerable, brilliant political researcher Peter Dale Scott has noted that “The cover-up obviates the conspiracy.” Of great significance in this context is the apparent “scrubbing” of information on USAID’s funding of key research in the Wuhan Institute of Virology: “ . . . . Shi’s most infamous EcoHealth Alliance-funded paper is, ‘A SARS-Like Cluster of Circulating Bat Coronaviruses Shows Potential for Human Emergence.’ In this controversial gain-of-function research collaboration with U.S. scientist Ralph Baric of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Shi and Baric used genetic engineering and synthetic biology to weaponize a bat coronavirus, maximizing its potential human infectivity.

Shi’s funding for this study came through a USAID Emerging Pandemic Threats-PREDICT grant to EcoHealth Alliance—but the record for this grant appears to have been scrubbed from the U.S. government’s database.

EcoHealth Alliance was a PREDICT partner during the 2009–2014 funding cycle, but there is no record of a USAID grant to EcoHealth Alliance for this time period among the $100.9 million in grants it has received from the U.S. government since 2003.

Shi’s contribution to the work she did with Baric was the ‘RsSHC014-CoV Sequence That Was Isolated from Chinese Horseshoe Bats.’ . . . .”

Of particular significance in this context is the series of programs recorded in the fall of 2019, notably FTR#’s 1089, 1090, 1091, 1092, 1093, 1094, 1095.

Other shows recorded shortly before, or in the aftermath of, the beginning of the pandemic flesh out the panoply of operations against China, including 1103, 1143, 1144, 1145, 1178, 1179, 1180. 1103, 1143, 1144, 1145, 1178, 1179, 1180.

Taken together and in the context of the full-court press against China discussed in the above-enumerated programs, the Pentagon/USAID funding of EcoHealth Alliance, the important advisory role of former Fort Detrick commander David Franz in EcoHealth Alliance and the research into bat-borne coronaviruses being conducted at the WIV and elsewhere in and around China, the four considerations just enumerated point ominously to the Covid-19 pandemic as an “op.”

Key Points of Discussion and Analysis Include: Joe Biden’s charge to intelligence services to determine the origins of the coronavirus; Biden’s decision to authorize the intelligence services to determine the origin of the virus derived momentum from Anthony Fauci’s expression of doubts about the origin of the vbirus; Fauci’s NIH was involved with the EcoHealth Alliance’s funding of the WIV research; The sickness of several WIV employees in the fall of 2019; Attribution by a Dutch researcher of that illness to seasonal flu; Review of Director of National Intelligence Avril Haines’ key role in Event 201 (October of 2019) that foreshadowed the event; Haines’ virulent anti-China proclivities; Overview of the military build-up and war-mongering in which the Pentagon is involved; Review and further development of the weaponized media coverage of China; Review of the fact that many personnel at the Wuhan Institute of Virology were trained by the U.S.

Vote Yes-New Day Pacifica will work through the various legal and political channels available to us with your support to appeal and reverse this wrong-headed decision which allows those individuals responsible for Pacifica’s financial and organizational crisis to stay in charge at Pacifica. Pacifica needs to immediately recognize the membership’s decision to approve and implement the New Day Pacifica bylaws proposals so we can save Pacifica and all five radio stations, archives and affiliates. 



















NDP Bylaws Referendum Results



Pacifica is using a “staff veto” theory to justify declaring that Vote Yes lost. Pacifica posits that since the New Day proposals affect the staff, if the staff reject the proposals the vote of the overall membership is irrelevant and the proposals fail. The irony of Pacifica’s management professing concern for the opinion of Pacifica’s staff while overseeing the gutting of Pacifica staff’s benefits should not be lost on anyone. (Pacifica recently eliminated employer-paid family health insurance at KPFK and is planning to gut existing severance language protections to facilitate laying off long-term staff at KPFK.)

Question: is a "staff veto" of bylaws proposals ever permitted under the Pacifica bylaws and California non-profit law? 

Yes, but only in the most extreme circumstances where the bylaws proposals would "materially and adversely affect the rights" of the staff "as to voting or transfer in a manner different than" such action affects the listener-members. (See the Pacifica Bylaws, Article 17, sections 1B-3 and 1B-4). The New Day Pacifica proposals do not "materially and adversely" affect Pacifica staff’s rights, so the membership's majority decision (which includes both listeners and staff) should determine that Vote Yes won the referendum.

Question: doesn't Pacifica staff support Vote Yes-New Day Pacifica? 

Yes! Staff at KPFA, KPFK and KPFT overwhelmingly support Vote Yes-New Day Pacifica to save Pacifica, all five stations, the archives and affiliates. Vote Yes-New Day Pacifica also has some staff support at WBAI and WPFW. However, Pacifica management at WBAI (GM and PD) and WPFW (PD) used their positions at Pacifica management to coerce staff into voting No after they publicly endorsed Vote No this year. Last year WBAI management was even caught ordering staff to produce vote No receipts to prove they were loyal staff members!

Question: so how will New Day appeal/overturn the illegal bylaws decision? 

New Day yesterday requested arbitration as per our December 4 agreement with Pacifica to use arbitration to resolve election issues to "avoid litigation and expense to the Pacifica Foundation." Even given this agreement, Pacifica has already hired another expensive law firm to prepare for a court fight, clearly hoping to bankrupt New Day Pacifica due to court costs.

We shall continue previous manager Anyel’s prescription for ‘quiet fund drive’ which worked for us last time - though the station didn’t make goal (hence we’re back!) and will avoid program cancellations for straight fundraising. Until the ‘Yes v. No’ voting decision is made we will continue to suggest monthly sustainer donations ($5 to $500 per month) so if Roy and Buzz and “Something’s Happening!’’ disappear, you can easily cease your donation unless of course you are supporting other programs besides the night show. This is not “extortion” as some accusing board members have suggested but simply to honestly avoid a ‘bait and switch’ situation in which you are supporting the show which isn’t there anymore.

The history of the U.S. is one of settler colonialism. The state was established on the basis of white male supremacy, slavery, land theft and genocide. “From sea to shining sea” the Native nations were decimated and dispossessed. The survivors herded into concentration camps. The genocidal policy reached its peak under President Andrew Jackson. Its ruthlessness was best articulated by Army general Thomas Jesup, who, in 1836, wrote: “The country can be rid of them only by exterminating them.” Native people are still here. Today, there is growing support for their movements such as the campaign to abolish Columbus Day and replace

it with Indigenous Peoples’ Day. The Dakota Access Pipeline resistance led by the Standing Rock Sioux was joined by many non-Native allies. The action, though unsuccessful, captured the imagination of people everywhere. The struggle for indigenous rights continues.




Roxanne Dunbar-Ortiz grew up in rural Oklahoma, the daughter of a tenant farmer and part-Indian mother. She has been active in the indigenous movement for more than four decades and is known for her commitment to social justice issues. The fury over racism that has been raging across the nation following the criminal, unnecessary deaths African American citizens by police and deranged White supremacists, is now becoming embedded in corporate boardrooms, legislative assemblies, school and university policymaking, and the left and right media. To an outside observer, it may appear that it is reaching a peak of many diverse disjointed voices, sometimes seemingly incoherent, speaking against and past each other. When issues of race become so polarized within a politicalized social context, the entire message for raising anti-racist awareness becomes lost in the static. But that happens to be the place we find ourselves now. Fortunately, many progressive anti-racial organizations and local movements, such as Black Lives Matter, Color of Change, Live Free USA, Resource Generation, Rainbow Coalition, Equal Justice Initiative, among others, have managed to keep themselves above the cacophony of institutional noise. In the past we have always supported public demonstrations against social injustice in all of its forms and manifestations.




Over the years, in our efforts to share unbiased criticism and constructive solutions into controversies and debates over racism and social and economic inequality, we have recently singled out Robin DiAngelo’s writings and her bestseller White Fragility. We have done so because we find that the deeper underpinnings of her message are fundamentally flawed and put forth an elitist position that theoretically silences any constructive debate about race, even if held on neutral grounds. Attorney David Burke describes the book as “snake oil masquerading as insight.” Moreover, White Fragility is intellectually fragile, impoverished by a lack of convincing facts to buttress her premises and in some cases mangling facts altogether in order to convince Whites of their guilt-ridden birthright. For example, her claim that Congress is 90 percent White hasn’t been true for several decades. Then we find some twisted logic such as “I believe that white progressives cause the most daily damage to people of color. I define a white progressive as any white person who thinks he or she is not racist, or is less racist.”…

Continuing discussion and analysis from FTR#1185, we present discussion of the background and context to Pentagon and USAID funding for research into bat-borne coronaviruses through EcoHealth Alliance, in and around China.

The Pentagon funding for these projects must be seen against the background of three overlapping areas of consideration:

1.–The fact that any virus can be synthesized or modified from scratch. As detailed in a very important article from The Guardian: “ . . . Advances in the area mean that scientists now have the capability to recreate dangerous viruses from scratch; make harmful bacteria more deadly; and modify common microbes so that they churn out lethal toxins once they enter the body. . . In the report, the scientists describe how synthetic biology, which gives researchers precision tools to manipulate living organisms, ‘enhances and expands’ opportunities to create bioweapons. . . . Today, the genetic code of almost any mammalian virus can be found online and synthesised. ‘The technology to do this is available now,’ said [Michael] “It requires some expertise, but it’s something that’s relatively easy to do, and that is why it tops the list. . . .”

2.–Also fundamental to an understanding of the Covid “op” is the devastating nature of bat-borne viruses when introduced into the human body. “ . . . . As Boston University microbiologist Thomas Kepler explained to the Washington Post in 2018, the bat’s unique approach to viral infection explains why viruses that transfer from bats to humans are so severe. . . . ‘A virus that has co-evolved with the bat’s antiviral system is completely out of its element in the human,’ Kepler said. ‘That’s why it is so deadly — the human immune system is overwhelmed by the inflammatory response.’ The bat immune system responds very differently from ours to viral infection. Instead of attacking and killing an infected cell, which leads to a cascade of inflammatory responses, the bat immune system can starve the virus by turning down cellular metabolism. The bat origin of SARS-CoV‑2 may explain the cytokine storms that are hastening some COVID-19 deaths. . . .”

3.–Analysis presented in the liberal New York Magazine by Nicholson Baker takes stock of the implications of contemporary biotechnology and what we have termed (in past broadcasts) “The Magic Virus Theory.” “. . . . SARS‑2 seems almost perfectly calibrated to grab and ransack our breathing cells and choke the life out of them. . . . Perhaps viral nature hit a bull’s‑eye of airborne infectivity, with almost no mutational drift, no period of accommodation and adjustment, or perhaps some lab worker somewhere, inspired by Baric’s work with human airway tissue, took a spike protein that was specially groomed to colonize and thrive deep in the ciliated, mucosal tunnels of our inner core and cloned it onto some existing viral bat backbone. It could have happened in Wuhan, but — because anyone can now ‘print out’ a fully infectious clone of any sequenced disease — it could also have happened at Fort Detrick, or in Texas, or in Italy, or in Rotterdam, or in Wisconsin, or in some other citadel of coronaviral inquiry.. . .”

Taken together and in the context of the full-court press against China discussed in many programs including FTR#’s 1089, 1090, 1091, 1092, 1103, 1143, 1144, 1145, 1178, 1179, 1180, the Pentagon/USAID funding of EcoHealth Alliance and the research into bat-borne coronaviruses being conducted at the WIV and elsewhere in and around China, the three considerations just enumerated point ominously to the Covid-19 pandemic as an “op.”
