2-2:30 The Bioneers: Revolution from the Heart of Nature
"Shamans and Scientists"
As we hurtle into the Sixth Age of Extinctions, we face the cataclysmic loss of half the world's biological diversity. 80% of the remaining biodiversity is on Indigenous lands. Ethnobotanist and Indigenous rights advocate Mark Plotkin of the Amazon Conservation Team tells us how scientists are helping protect the people who will protect the land, and the age-old wisdom that's imperative for our future. 2:30-3:30 "From the Vault,"
Stan Freberg is a comedic legend His influence can be seen from Monty Python to South Park to Current television hit series Mad Men to the Late Night Comedy host lineup. Today on From The Vault, we memorialize this legend who passed away on Tuesday April 7th, 2015.
It all started in the most humble fashion. Born on August 7, 1926 in Pasadena California. The story goes that in 1944 at the age of 18 he jumped on a bus to "Hollywood" and landed on the doorstep of Warner Brother's Studio. He was hired immediately to begin voicing cartoon characters
In 1951 he began releasing Comedy albums with Capitol Records. He honed his craft at satire and parody from the beginning, taking on topics like McCarthyism, Politics, political correctness before that was even a term, pop culture including a stab at Elvis Presley's first hit record Heartbreak Hotel.
By 1957 he took over for radio legend Jack Benny on CBS hit comedy radio hour. He took a principled stand against allowing Jack Benny's Tobacco companies to advertise on his show which severely hampered it's success.
This only gave him fuel to turn up the satire volume in his work including... you guessed it.... commercials.
Let's hear a little from his CBS radio Program The Stan Freberg Show from August 11, 1957. This program was broadcast on Pacifica Station KPFK in Los Angeles thanks to overnight legend Roy Tuckman and fellow old time radio fan Bobb Lynes.
In 1961, Stan Freberg recorded arguably his greatest comedy album Stan Freberg Presents The United States of America: The Early years. Pacifica Station KPFA thought so too, and on the Fourth of July 1964 played the entire album to celebrate America's birthday. We play side 1 of this recording from 1961.
And now we present KPFK host John Schneider's 1999 interview with Stan Freberg that allows us a fly-on-the-wall peek inside Freberg's view of the world AND presents some of Stan's best routines.

12-1 Vaccine Update: 'Cammy Beton MD, CDC Admits There is No Science Behind the Annual Flu Vaccine
The Vaxxed Team recently interviewed Dr. Cammy Benton from North Carolina who is board certified in both Family Medicine and Functional Medicine.
Dr. Benton related that through all of her years of medical training, including 4 years in residency, that the only thing she was taught in regards to vaccines was that they were "safe and effective." She stated that they were told to discard the vaccine inserts, as they were all "lawyer jargon..."
She became obsessed with the topic, since it had already destroyed the health of her three children. She wanted to learn which vaccines were useful and which ones were not.
Dr. Benton finally came to the conclusion that the risks associated with the diseases that were being vaccinated against was not serious enough to risk the side effects of the vaccines.

1-2:30 Jeff Foster: The Way of Rest
Jeff Foster is a spiritual teacher whose methods do not belong to any one lineage or style. He teaches a form of total acceptance-a dismantling of the armor of the heart so that we can live vibrantly in the here and now. With Sounds True, Jeff has published several books and audio programs, including 'The Way of Rest: Finding The Courage to Hold Everything in Love.' In this episode of Insights at the Edge, Jeff and Tami Simon speak on the obstacles that stand between us and rest, and how learning to abide in discomfort is a difficult but necessary step to achieving true rest. Reading an excerpt from his newest book, Jeff explains why it's actually a daring act to choose to rest. Finally, Jeff and Tami talk about depression and the desire to die, and why that desire can be a gateway to a deeper, richer understanding of the self. From Sounds True Insights at the Edge. 2:30-3:30 Karen Brody: "Daring to Rest"
Karen Brody is the founder of the Daring to Rest™ Program for Women, which promotes women's empowerment and increased health through yoga nidra meditation. With Sounds True, Karen has published 'Daring to Rest: Reclaim Your Power' with Yoga Nidra Rest Meditation. In this episode of Insights at the Edge, Karen and Tami Simon have a serious discussion about the epidemic of burnout and exhaustion in modern culture. This is especially true for women, who are often held to the societal expectation that they serve the needs of those around them before they ever consider taking even the most necessary rest. Karen offers yoga nidra as a one part of the solution to this wave of fatigue, describing how her own practice and the cultivation of turiya-"the sleep of the yogis"-helped her move past a period of intense, chronic sleeplessness. Finally, Karen and Tami speak on the liberation in abandoning perfectionism and how yoga nidra can be folded into the course of our daily lives. WEDNESDAY NIGHT, NOVEMBER 29
12-1 Dave Emory, "For the Record #979 - Nazism, Anti-Gay and Anti-Feminist Propaganda and the Fritz Haarmann Incident"
With the Trump administration moving against gay rights and reproductive rights, and with the public attention largely focused on yet another mass murder in Las Vegas, we delve back into the archives for the benefit of newer and younger listeners.
On 2/28/1988, we recorded Miscellaneous Archive Show M13: Gay Rights, Reproductive Rights and the Third Reich, highlighting how the nascent, vigorous gay rights movement in Weimar Germany was a focal point for Nazi propaganda and political action. Furthermore, a mass killing by homosexual Fritz Haarmann terrorized Weimar Germany, fueled Nazi anti-gay propaganda and reinforced the public perception in the German populace that the situation was "out of control."
Dr. Magnus Hirschfeld was the lynchpin of the strong gay liberation movement in Weimar Germany and, as a result, was a focal point of Nazi Party propaganda, fueled with the additional fodder of the fact that Hirschfeld was Jewish.
(We note, in passing, that the gay rights movement in Weimar Germany received considerable support from a segment of the country's feminist community grouped around Dr. Helena Stoecker.)
Historically, German attitudes toward homosexuality were mixed, with some regions manifesting a relatively liberal attitude and enforcement posture and others, an extremely reactionary position in both respects. Paragraph 175 was the official German statute making sex between adults of the same gender illegal. Again, the enforcement of Paragraph 175 was highly selective from a regional standpoint.)
In a manner directly foreshadowing U.S. right-wing propaganda in recent decades, the Nazi Party denounced Hirschfeld and homophile sexual activity as a product of, and a contributor to, the moral decay of the Weimar Republic and democracy in general.
A major contributing factor to the impact of this Nazi propaganda was the Fritz Haarman incident...

1-2 The Ralph Nader Radio Hour
Ralph spends the hour with fraud expert, Frank Abagnale, inspiration for the Spielberg film, "Catch Me If You Can." They talk about how to protect yourself from identity theft and other scams in our high tech, digital economy. Plus listener questions!
One pilot, stockbroker, and of the most daring con men, forgers, imposters, and escape artists in history, Frank Abagnale enjoyed a brief but notorious criminal career during which he assumed various identities - including those of airline doctor - in order to pass off approximately $2.5 million in phony checks before he reached the age of twenty-one. His criminal adventures inspired Steven Spielberg's film, Catch Me If You Can and the Tony-Award winning musical of the same name. Now, Mr. Abagnale is one of the world's most respected authorities on forgery, embezzlement, and secure documents. For over forty years he has worked with, advised, and consulted with hundreds of financial institutions, corporations and government agencies around the world. In addition to "Catch Me If You Can," his books include "The Art of the Steal," "The Real U Guide to Identity Theft"and "Stealing Your Life."
"Obviously technology breeds crime. It always has, and it always will. And there always be people using technology in a negative, self-serving way. So, it's a lot easier today to do some of the things that I did before." - Frank Abagnale

2-3 Eric Sirotkin, "War or Peace in Korea"
Recorded in Boulder, CO on October 21, 2017.
Donald Trump and Kim Jong-un. What can you say? They are lightweights fighting in the heavyweight division while the fate of possibly millions are at risk. Two heads of state trading taunts and insults back and forth like kids in a schoolyard. Trump declared that talking with North Korea is a "waste of time" and threatened to "totally destroy" that country by unleashing "fire and fury like the world has never seen." On his trip to Asia he softened his line a bit by inviting North Korea to "come to the table" and "make a deal." He then reverted to more saber-rattling. The U.S. military has been in South Korea since 1945. There is no peace treaty formally ending the 1950-53 Korean War. Maybe that would be a good place to start. Tensions must be defused. The alternative is catastrophic war.
Eric Sirotkin is a human rights lawyer. His peacemaking activities have taken him to North and South Korea. He helped found the New Mexico Human Rights Coalition and the National Lawyers Guild Korean Peace Project. He is the recipient of the City of Albuquerque's Human Rights Award. He is the author of 'Witness: A Lawyer's Journey from Litigation to Liberation.' From Alternative Radio, 1 (800) 444-1977, http://www.alternativeradio.org
