MONDAY NIGHT JUNE 19

12- 3 Joan Tollifson "Bare Bones Meditation: Waking Up from the Story of My Life"
From birth, Joan Tollifson knew she was different. Born without a hand, she lived her life as a tumultuous experience that speaks to the spiritual aspirations of everyday America. 'Bare Bones Meditation' is a real world wisdom story without apologies; the exhilaration of life in the Sixties; the dawning of Tollifson's lesbianism; the highs and lows of life.

Joan is the author of 'Bare-Bones Meditation: Waking Up from the Story of My Life' (1996), 'Awake in the Heartland: The Ecstasy of What Is' (2003), 'Painting the Sidewalk with Water: Talks and Dialogs about Nonduality' (2010), and 'Nothing to Grasp' (2012).

3-4 "From the Vault," "1984" by George Orwell Part 10 of 13
This week on From the Vault, continuing one of the most important dystopian novels written in modern history, George Orwell's classic ‘Nineteen Eighty-Four.’

The entire book was read on-air by longtime Pacifica morning show host Charles Morgan in 1975. Morgan was joined by legendary voiceover artist June Foray, widely known for her work in Disney and Warner Brothers animated productions - in particular as the voice of Rocky in the Rocky and Bullwinkle cartoon. This week we present part of this thirteen-part quintessential Pacifica recording.

From the Vault is presented as part of the Pacifica Radio Archives Preservation and Access Project, funded in part by an award from the GRAMMY Foundation and the National Historical Publications and Records Commission at the National Archives and Records Administration, and past grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Ford Foundation, and the American Archive funded by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, along with the generous support of Pacifica Radio Listeners. We also thank our partners and collaborators at the Pop-Up Archive, Amara, Other Minds Archives, George Blood Audio, and the California Audio Visual Preservation Project. Reading produced by Paul Vangelisti. ‘From the Vault’ Produced by Mark Torres.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT, JUNE 21

12-1 Dave Emory, “For the Record #72 - More Discussion With Martin A. Lee”
This program begins with an analysis of connections between the Reinhard Gehlen Nazi spy organization and Gerhard Frey, a German fascist who was a major financier of the rise of Russian fascist Vladimir Zhirinovsky. The segments also touch on Nazi agent H. Keith Thompson’s role as the P.R. person for Lee Harvey Oswald’s mother after the assassination of President Kennedy.

Much of the program focuses on the exploitation of the issue of immigration by neo-fascists around the world, as well as similarities between European neo-fascists and their counterparts in the United States. The broadcast also highlights attempts by American fascists to appear to be “Christians” or “conservatives” in order to broaden their political appeal. One of the most important points of discussion concerns the revival of the fascist pseudo-science of eugenics, exemplified by the mainstream backing for and acceptance of the racist best-seller 'The Bell Curve.'

Dave Emory’s entire lifetime of work is available on a flash drive. The new drive is a 32-gigabyte drive that is current as of the programs and articles posted by early 2016. Link: http://www.kfjc.org/donate/index.php

1-2 The Ralph Nader Radio Hour
Ralph has a fascinating conversation with author Duff McDonald about how business schools like Harvard are producing graduates who are nothing more than “heat seeking money missiles.” And muckraking journalist, Roldo Bartimole, tells us how billionaire sports team owners extort money from a city’s taxpayers.

Duff McDonald is an award winning journalist, who has been a contributing editor at “New York,” “Fortune,” and “The New York Observer” as well as writing for many other publications. He is also the author of The Firm: The Story of McKinsey & Its Secret Influence on American Business and Last Man Standing, a biography of JP Morgan CEO, Jamie Dimon. Mr. McDonald’s latest book is The Golden Passport: Harvard Business School, the Limits of Capitalism, and the Moral Failure of the MBA Elite.

Roldo Bartimole has been called a lot of things in his career, “gadfly,” “muckraker,” “curmudgeon,” “The Conscience of Cleveland.” Cleveland Magazine called him “the poor man’s Tom Paine.” He is a journalist, who for over thirty years put out his own bi-weekly newsletter called, “Point of View,” which took a critical look at the power structure in Cleveland, reporting on the wealthy’s control of the city’s agenda to the detriment of its working-class and poor residents.

2-3 Noam Chomsky "Neoliberalism: An Accounting"
Recorded in Amherst, MA on April 13, 2017.

Neoliberalism is an odd term when you think about it. It is hardly new and it is not particularly liberal. It has been a great economic success story-for the 1%. The detritus of neoliberalism litters the landscape from smashed unions to shredded safety nets, and deregulation of everything from airlines to banking to telecommunications. And how does one measure the human costs of shattered dreams and broken lives? The consequence? A backlash. Many working people are angry. Keep squeezing them and they will be prey for charlatans and demagogues who exploit their vulnerability and fear with scapegoating and false promises. As The Nation magazine observes, “Alongside growing economic inequality, we have suffered growing political inequality, with a Princeton study declaring that the influence of ordinary citizens on policy is ‘negligible.’ The United States,” The Nation says, is becoming “an oligarchy.”

Noam Chomsky, by any measure, has led a most extraordinary life. In one index he is ranked as the eighth most cited person in history, right up there with Aristotle, Shakespeare, Marx, Plato and Freud. The legendary MIT professor practically invented modern linguistics. In addition to his pioneering work in that field he has been a leading voice for peace and social justice for many decades. Chris Hedges says he is “America’s greatest intellectual” who “makes the powerful, as well as their liberal apologists, deeply uncomfortable.” At 88, he still gives lectures all over the world. He is the author of scores of books, including Propaganda & the Public Mind, How the World Works, and Power Systems with David Barsamian. 3-3:30 The Bioneers: Revolution from the Heart of Nature
'Nature's Intelligence: Interviewing The Vegetable Mind'
Are plants intelligent? If we knew their language what might they tell us? Potawatomi Indigenous Ecologist and author Robin Kimmerer and evolutionary ecologist Monica Cagliano merge Traditional Ecological Knowledge with Western Science for a surprising trip into the minds of mosses and chili seeds and the songs of corn. They agree what we really need today is a revolution in values, an 'Honorable Harvest' of gratitude and reciprocity with our plant kin. From http://bioneers.org 1 (877) bioneer.

THURSDAY NIGHT, JUNE 22

12-1 Alan Watts, “Worldly Religions” Part 4 of 4
“Today man seems himself victimized by the social rigging in which his life moves. Its forces and activities seem to him to choke off the expansion of his life-self intimacy. In the light of this, Watts will explore the use of arts, athletics, and other secular activities as actually forms of Yoga – that is, as ways of realizing one’s identity with the Ground of Being” (AW) All info: http://www.alanwatts.org
